I think his point is about the people who would have voted for Kamala, except their red line was that she had to give a full-throated support of Palestine over Israel.
It’s more like they are seeing the current political environment as no different than when HW or Clinton was in office. “You can’t let a little politics get in the way of family.” There’s a disconnect between the national political landscape and how people operate in their day-to-day lives. It used to be that not much really happened. Sure the stock market goes up and down. Times get tough but we pull through. Generally speaking, most people were roughly on the same page with some differences. There’s always fringe groups but they were treated like the wackos they are. Now, gop politics is purely about retribution and turning the temperature up to Emril Lagasse levels.(BAM!) Policies are designed to hurt a lot of people but convince idiots it’s worth it if it’s also hurts the “bad group” more. Nazis are openly praised and welcomed into the circle. They are trying to literally just delete entire groups of people. And we openly side with hostile foreign powers against our own interests. It’s not the same landscape and people who are just like, “Eh, it’s all just politics…don’t know why my family doesn’t speak to me anymore.” are completely blind to what is happening. These are the same people who always say, “How could the Germans have just let someone like Hitler come to power? Didn’t they see what he was up to?” Without a shred of fucking irony.
But I think there’s also a disconnect in a different way, in that the left side of the spectrum is being told that this is pure dystopian hellscape, and the beginning of the end…so the answer to it is paddles.

In local news, Jungle Julia got an unexpected phone call yesterday: one of the waitresses from her favorite taco restaurant. It seems that the waitress, along with most of the kitchen staff, were fired because they weren't US citizens, and the new owners (who obviously knew) feared an ICE raid. The waitress also seemed doubtful about the future of the restaurant, because she and the ones who were fired were the ones who kept the restaurant running smoothly; we shall see how that plays out. Here's the kicker: THE OWNERS ARE TRUMP SUPPORTERS, MAGA flag and all! Oh man, if that restaurant tanks, I'm gonna laugh so hard. Not just for that, but I don't think it's that great, and JJ INSISTS on getting food there twice a week. If I tell her I don't want anything, she gets pouty (I've told you guys that she can be weird about food), so I have to force myself to eat some mediocre tacos.
