TGIF y'all! I've over here cooking a huge double family portion of meaty red sauce and pasta to share with another family. The house smells lovely and crisp fall air is breezing into the open window. Only a candle would make this better... Oh looky here, here's a pumpkin spice candle to really set the mood. Veteran's Day is Monday. Thanks to all who served the country. Are any of you a veteran? Are any of you getting Veterans Day off? I want to hear what happened at @Misanthropic 's last garage night. He might not remember, though. Who has hot plans for the weekend? Be safe out there this weekend.
It was a typical garage night at my neighbors place, so beer, bourbon, weed, fog machines, laser lights, pool and music videos. I remember most of the night, but I don’t remember the walk home at all. So, business as usual. Tonight will be hunkering down and recovering from this week.
Last time it was funny, because they stole all the funny things from better comedians. Watch this: ….now listen to this, which was recorded just weeks before:
Spent the day finalizing a big redo of my old garden shed. (It's a rough cut lumber ship lap construction with a red metal roof on it, one of 2 that my dad built when he owned the place). Dug a conduit from the house to the shed, burried the conduit, snaked some wiring, and then powered up the shed. It's now got solid lighting and a little infra red heater over the stainless steel bench I moved in there from my garage. Should make things a hell of a lot easier to work on... and keep the snowblower batteries charged up, and a new charging station for all my electric landscaping tools. All in a it's been a very productive day, I'm now sore, and am going to go drink. Happy Saturday all!
I heard that! I spent most of the morning sitting on my ass and then after lunch did a deep clean of the chicken coop in preparation for winter. My brother was out in our woods checking his deer stand so I took a spin out there on the four wheeler and while I was at it cleared a couple small trees off the roads. Then I did a quick clean of the goats' shed and for some reason or another decided to chop up some campfire wood for next year ( I still don't know why. ) These nicer days won't last much longer I think, and honestly I'm okay with that. It's warm enough that the ticks are still active. Amazingly, I didn't have a single one on me.
We're watching the grandson right now while the parents enjoy a nice date night and holy hell is this a handful. I can't imagine this being my everyday life. Exhausting. For the people that missed it last time, I never had kids, the now wife had kids and her daughter had a child so now "we" are grandparents. Seemed to be very confusing for some people here.
Soooo the toys for the new “Wicked” movie (the wizard of oz franchise) have the wrong website on the packaging. instead of wickedmovie.com - the put wicked.com whoops.
This is the greatest thing that’s ever happened. Please tell me that they were ready distributed, because they put out EVERYTHING. Toys, books, tumblers, keychains, etc. it’s expected to gross a cool billion unless it’s a Joker 2-like fuck up.
Looks like it was just Mattel toys. But I would imagine there’s a run on them from collectors…possibly a limit imposed on purchases by retailers, and a hasty Sharpie project passed off to some underpaid staff,
Maybe it's all a plot to sell the "collector" batches out. Cuz I saw that shit in Walmart and it is all destined for the clearance aisle.
That’s Mattel for you, they have always been the RC Cola of toy companies. Disney knows how to make their collections look collectable.
My daughter is 11 and has had crushes on boys before. She was going to a local hockey game with a friend for the first time, she had a shower, was doing her hair, put on some nice cloths getting all done up. I was like oh she is trying to impress a boy this is cute, she has never wanted to go to a game before. Me; getting all pretty for a boy, that is why you want to the game? daughter: maybe it is because of girl her friend: "start to open her mouth to say something" daughter: shut your mouth It was so cute watching her get all pretty to try and impress i guess a girl.
This is actually pretty similar to what happened with my oldest daughter. She normally dresses in mostly black and/or flannel like she's been transported back into the PNW in the mid 90's (although I could have used this as an early clue as well). Then one day she actually did her hair, put on eyeliner, and I saw her physically put on deodorant for like the 3rd time that year, all just to go hang out with a new friend from school that she had never mentioned to either my wife or myself prior. It was about a month later when she finally officially told us she likes girls, and I tried to give her the most "DAD" response I could by simply saying "Me too" and giving her a high five.
What’s with teens not wanting to wear deodorant? Coworker says she struggles and eventually just gave up fighting with her daughter about it. While my coworker has never said it outright I think her teen is autistic. She’s super into manga and anime so it’s a near mortal certainty it’s autism.
Might belong in the Serious thread, but anyone else think there are a lot of "lesbian" teens these days? I put it in parentheses because I personally know three female teens that were lesbian or trans for a few years and then ended up straight. Is it that boys are weird (because we are) and they get along so much better with their friends and therefore think they are probably lesbian or are there really that many gay women in the population? It's been a bit since it's come up here but if you search back a few years, my niece said she was trans. Everyone stopped using her "deadname" and started referring to her as a boy and his preferred name. About a month ago, she said she was now back to a female, but she's gay and to call her by a new name.
To be fair, I've never understood how any teenage girl could not be a lesbian. It's so clearly the superior choice.
It doesn't really surprise me. LGBT+ is far more accepted among younger generations, it's talked about a lot more, and teenagers spend a lot of their lives trying things out to find their identity. Combine that with the fact that there's a pretty big range between "gay" and "straight" - i.e. a person who may not identify as gay may still experience some same-sex attraction. Depending on what study you read, double digit percentages of people experience some kind of same sex interaction despite <5% of people identifying as primarily gay. That adds up to a social environment where people who are confused about who they are have the freedom to shift their sexual or gender identities along with all of the other things they're experimenting with.
