I don't think it happens, but I'm shocked he gave them an interview. https://247sports.com/article/unc-c...ll-vacancy-after-mack-brown-firing-241358315/
I would be gobsmacked if he took a college job. A college football coach is half coach half politician, and there's no way he has the patience for that.
It's to prop up his coaching availability and hyping up UNC. They just fired 73 year Mack Brown because the game was passing him by. No way 72 year old Belichick who's never coached in college is a legit interview. Dog and pony show.
I was wrong, it wasn't just for show. He's actually going to be the HC for UNC. https://www.on3.com/college/north-c...reveals-salary-length-of-deal-unc-head-coach/
The guy wrote a 400 page manifesto with his demands for the UNC program. It's going to be really interesting to see what happens; he clearly thinks he knows what it will take to build an NFL-caliber program at the college level, and UNC is going to give him the resources and control to try. Given this level of investment, if UNC becomes anything other than a perennial top-25 team that's consistently vying for top recruits, it will probably be viewed as a massive failure. But if Belichick can really build a model program that NFL teams draft from because they know they're getting pro-ready candidates... it would be huge. UNC's recruiting pool would be enormous.
I don't think there's any way this works. Other NFL coaches have said they'll do the same thing, and it's never worked out. The players you're coaching at the two levels are at fundamentally different stages in their lives with different motivations, level of maturity, etc. How is Bellichick going to handle a 5* player that wants to transfer because his girlfriend is at another school? Non-professionals aren't going to want to deal with his grumpy dickhead persona, and UNC isn't going to outbid the Ohio State, Alabama etc. of the world to overcome that. We'll see, but I think it ends in a disaster.
I agree that a lot of the 5* recruits might still be at the whims of whatever their entitlement level says. I stopped my post a little short but what I was going to add was that a tightly run college program might end up with a pretty healthy "middle class" of athletes - football players who think they're guaranteed to have a first round draft grade won't care as much, but those without as much certainty may opt for a program where they feel as if they have a better shot at catching on with a practice squad or a late round pick. Those guys are also less likely to leave school early. It could be a recipe for a very stable team with a good core of rotational players. I agree that the odds are stacked against it. But it's also not that often that a pro football GM and GOAT head coach is given this kind of power and money.
There's no way it ends in a disaster. He may not have an NC at the end, but he will be pretty good no matter what. He's to damn good of a coach to be a complete failure at the college level.
I need to gloat somewhere. The Buckeyes are going to the Natty! I'm going to the game regardless, but ticket prices are insane. We got an email this morning notifying us we didn't get selected for the season ticket holder allotment, so it's aftermarket for us. Hopefully prices come down during the week.
I screamed so loud during Captain Jack's runback that I woke up my kids who thought I was dying. Enjoy your trip. I went to Arizona for the OSU/Florida game and vowed to never again go to a Natty game, no matter what. I'm cautiously optimistic, because if the team plays like they have the first 3 games, it shouldn't be close, but you just never can be 100% sure with Day and his gameplans.
Jesus loves Ohio more than he does the catholics from Indiana. It's just a fact. At least SOMETHING good came out of today.
Not the team that I wanted to win the National Championship, but certainly the team I wanted to win that game. Congratulations The Ohio State University.
