No idiot would wear that for real. That goes into the bin with the “Post-9/11 Skyscraper Parachute” and Crystal Pepsi.

It's just a fucking over-the-head face shield! Designed to sit on top of your outfit, so no seal is possible. Filter behind the head, so good luck sitting back on anything.

Anyone have any recommendations for effective neck gaiters?

I've read the research. My impressions are that materials/layers are more important than the fact that it's a "gaiter" instead of a "mask." Seems like the bigger problem is that people are using thin/crappy materials for their gaiters.

I wear a mask most of the time, I'm hoping to pick up a gaiter for when I'm hiking so I have something to quickly pull up when encountering other hikers on narrow trail sections or at viewpoints.

2+ layers only, please, and this is only for COVID concerns - I don't need to stay warm.

Under Armour has some options for gaiters... I've ordered one, but haven't tried it out yet (due next week).

i bought one of the regular UA Masks, after seeing the Rock wearing his (and correctly assuming there was a version without the Brahma Bull that would be $5 cheaper). I wish it didn’t have such a thick foam inside, but the stitching design keeps it off your mouth, and once you get the wire nose guard adjusted well, it doesn’t fog up your glasses as much - which is key for somebody who wears glasses 24/7. I think the gaiter is the same basic design, just gaiter-fied.

In lieu of a gaiter, you can use the bandana style to pull up quickly. These have the embedded filter layer.

I have a regular bandana, as a backup, with a coffee filter folded in it, and I keep the bottom point tucked in my shirt.

Yeah, I have one of the masks as well, and don't mind it. As a result of that I got pre-order-this emailed by UA and thought I'd give it a shot to see how it goes.

Cool, which one did you order? Really like the look of the half-gaiter:
    https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/p/sportmask-gaiters/ua-sportsmask-1-2-gaiter/1369734.html

Might give that one a try.

I just can't get on board with the design of a bandana. Having the bottom of your mask flapping free does not seem, to me, to be the most effective way to block airborne particles - and if I'm trying to keep it tucked into my shirt, then why not just wear something that's actually designed to provide a snug fit? That's not something I've looked into the science for (bandana + filter + tucking), just the engineer in me doesn't like it.

Also, regular bandanas are proven to be absolutely terrible for preventing transmission, so I tend to default to not trusting anyone I see wearing one.

Around here, the runners seem to wear longer ones that hang over their chest and shoulders a fair bit. Not sure about the effectiveness, but they do use the heavier technical fabrics, so they tend to be pretty snug around the chest/shoulders/back.

No no you've got it wrong. Now that the Election's done we're supposed to stop talking about it entirely. As if it went away. As if it was never really here.

Not, it really can. The problem here was they didn’t pray hard enough. You have to pray the living shit out of a prayer. They were lazy and obviously didn’t want it.

    Moving on....

Real talk, if I see someone not wearing a mask, cropdusting them is fair game, right?

Like....if you had a mask on like the rest of us, you wouldn't be having this "choking, crying asking about tear gas" problem, would you?

Fuck it. Mask up or reap the whirlwind.

Mask wearing has never been easier. I've stopped forgetting a mask when I step out the door ~9/10. I've got a box of 50 in my size right beside it, so if I've forgotten when I left it, it's like pulling a tissue out of the box. Not sure what the situation is like in North American wrt the availability of paper masks, but the cloth mask business is booming.
