Some of the thinking is that if Trump concedes, the GA senate races are lost.

The issue is that run off happens in January....

I think over the next couple of weeks, the pressure will increase, and a lot of the folks in the Trump empire will start abandoning ship. The turnover at the Pentagon is concerning, but I don't see a way for him to cling to power.

He will soon run into judges that don't want to get disbarred and will refuse to hear these cases, and even CISA is disputing Trump-sphere claims.

The coup talk is nonsense. I think for most people, the margin of victory was significant enough to realize its not actually close enough to dispute. I saw some weird poll stats like 70% of Republicans think the election results aren't legitimate, but....

I am reminded of the same fuckers that wanted to bomb Agrabah, the fictional country in Aladin, so...

The Paris Agreement is pretty stupid. It economically binds the US to standards that are not realistic and are inconsistent. None of the western nations that signed it are going to be able to meet all of the obligations they agreed to. The US would need to begin shutting down coal power plants while China gets to continue building them until 2030 because they labeled themselves a "developing nation." China has the second highest national GDP after the US and by far the largest global carbon emitter. That doesn't make any sense. Even without agreeing to arbitrary commitments, the US has had the largest decrease in global emissions anyway, so what's the point? Why force fossil fuel prices higher when industry innovation (i.e. fracking) is becoming cleaner, more efficient and is driving prices down?

I don’t really subscribe to that. I think the GOP wins the runoffs, which is basically the proof that the election was very much about how much of a genuine asshole Trump is.

He'll have to. He's got Alzheimer's. I think she can do more personable interviews over the next few years that could help her get re-elected, but she faces some of the same hurdles of being condescending and unlikable that Al Gore did.

I mean, maybe? Biden got a much more substantial lead in Georgia than was originally predicted. Lieberman could have easily dropped out his race and put Ossoff over the the 50% mark.
Overall the gop did much better this election than predicted and losing Trump is probably better for them in the long term. From here on out, it’s up to the rest of the GOP to try to reign in their crazies and tamp down the nutty conspiracy theories. But with the FB/Fox News feedback loop in full swing, I’m not sure there’s much that can be done.

Im seeing a lot of “Biden is a Trojan horse for Kamala” stuff out there. Do you think that’s what the full on gop voter fraud panic is really about? The idea of black and Indian woman in the White House?

Because ours were among the highest to begin with. It's like the obese man saying he's the most successful at dieting because he went from 8000 calories a day to 7000 calories a day. And the problem with fossil fuels is that there's a hard limit to the gains. Once natural gas totally replaces coal, all of our "momentum" comes to a complete halt well short of our final goal.

Right, but that fat guy still dropped his caloric intake regardless. I don't see how any of the provisions in the Agreement terms will have increase in net benefit for carbon emissions if there is zero enforcement or accountability. It seems like an unnecessary way to give China an economic advantage over the US when the emissions are already dropping.

But we're not in caloric deficit. We're just sprinting toward that inevitable heart attack at a slightly slower pace.

I think people don't want a more distasteful radical liberal in the White House. Both Condoleezza Rice and Nikki Haley are popular with the GOP, so I don't think her race is a concern. And, even though I don't think Biden's health is such that he'll make it four years, I don't think it's any kind of Trojan horse maneuver to intentionally get a specific "other person" into the White House. Biden was just the best shot at getting a democrat elected, so the party took it.

It's still useless and potentially economically harmful. Obama never even sent it for symbolic ratification, regardless of whether it not it would have passed. It doesn't sound like he took it too seriously either.

I'd have more sympathy for the anti-Paris arguments if people were advocating a far stricter agreement to replace it, but generally what I see is people opposing Paris in favor of not addressing the issue at all.

And I'd care about the Paris Agreement if it had any tangible impact whatsoever aside from western leaders jacking themselves off over it, not following through with any of the terms and having to pay taxes into it so "developing" countries can continue contributing to the problem.

A cult is created by finding a whole bunch of suckers just slightly more stupid than the founder.

It is a CULT. I’ve said it from the beginning and it’s a reality.

It's not nonsense, but it is just my non-professional medical opinion. I assume it will be treated with that authority, like my predictions for the World Series or Super Bowl. My father died of Alzheimer's. I watched the signs of his cognitive decline. My mother and I knew before he was officially diagnosed. Biden shows the same patterns, imo, that's all.

Your non-professional "medical opinion" is nonsense.

"He will definitely have to step down because he has Alzheimer's" is bullshit.

Somehow, "I have no formal training whatsoever, only one anecdotal experience with Alzheimer's, and am going only off a series of media appearances, and I feel confident in making a medical diagnosis" punches with less weight. As it should.

To be fair, even I think Biden will be a one term president, a la Jimmy Carter.

Once this mess is cleaned up, we will decide we want someone else.

That being said, he might actually be the right guy to clean up the White House seeing as he was there for 8 years before. He’s not going in cold.

Agreed. His experience matters a great deal, especially considering he cleaned up the mess in 2008, and rode out the tea party onslaught in 2010. I also think his international connections will be an asset.

I wasn't making a medical diagnosis, lol, as I said. Just my opinion. Since he's been in politics so long, there is lots of tape of his past speaking. If you watch video from his 1988 Presidential campaign where he vigorously defended his plagiarism and false educational record, he is sharp and quick. All that is gone now.
