In the sea of first world problems, I have one that I want to crowd-source. I need a better gym playlist. I dont like listening to the same things over and over and since my phone shit the bed six months ago, I lost most of the stuff I had. Im slowing accumulating music again through Apple Music (I know, Spotify is better). What would be must-have songs for a workout list? Heres what I have so far - Alice in Chains - Man in the Box Alice in Chains - No Excuses Awolnation - Sail J. Cole - Workout Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache Living Colour - Cult of Personality The Roots - The Fire Shinedown - Fly From the Inside Bush - The Sound of Winter Disturbed - Land of Confusion Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk Xecutioners - Its Going Down Sound Garden - Burden in My Hand Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love Kanye West - Black Skinhead Beastie Boys - Sabotage Blink 182 - Dammit Deftones - My Own Summer Deftones - Minerva Focus: Add to it or just give your ideal workout list. Alt Focus: What other themed playlist do you have? Do you have a secret one that you would be embarrassed by if your friends found out? To my Tool Tunes Playlist (name stolen from Bald Bryan of ACS), I just added Janet Jackson - Runaway.
Focus: Needs more White Zombie. Or just all White Zombie. Alt-Focus: Maybe it wasn't a theme per se but I'm pretty sure some of my buddies would give me shit for blasting Florence Welch all of last night.
Focus Good choices by Juice. Here are 20 songs that I have used: "Mouth for War" - Pantera "Basketcase" - Green Day "Down and Out" - Cam'ron featuring Kanye West "Dysentery Gary" - Blink 182 "Jumpin' Jack Flash"- The Rolling Stones "Tropical Iceland" (use the version on EP, not Gallowsbird's Bark) - The Fiery Furnaces "You Better You Bet" - The Who "What Was I Thinkin'" - Dierks Bentley "Dysentery Gary" - Blink 182 "Gold Soundz" - Pavement "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" - Ben Folds Five "Lose Yourself" - Eminem "16 Military Wives" - The Decemberists "Portions for Foxes" - Rilo Kiley "Rebel, Rebel" - David Bowie "Where the Devil Don't Stay" - Drive by Truckers "Maggie May" - Rod Stewart "The Mother We Share" - Chvrches "Cabin Down Below" - Tom Petty "Ocean Avenue" - Yellowcard

Alt-focus: One of my spotify playlists is "Childhood" and includes songs from Labyrinth, Last Unicorn, Neverending Story, Rescuers, Secret of NIMH, Muppets, Pete's Dragon, etc.
Juicy, I think zum of these people are giving you the wrong advices. Besides Tiny Tim, some roid rage tunes. Some of which I am actually listening to right now before gym, with my coffee. I, uhh, need some angry shit to get my blood flowing. Pantera - Great Southern Trendkill (opening vocals courtesy of Anal Cunt's frontman) Black Label Society - Bored To Tears. Beginning At Last. Life/Birth/Blood/Doom. Metallica - Cyanide Machine Head - Now We Die Down - We Knew Him Well. Misfortune Teller (holy hell that riff rips) Pride and Glory - Horse Called War Motorhead - Overkill. We Are The Road Crew Slayer - New Faith Kayser - Jake Megadeth - Tornado of Souls. Skin of My Teeth.
I keep a lot of Bone Thugs on my gym playlist. (Fun racist side note: I text my black friend Andre the youtube link to "First of da month" every first of the month.) Awolnation is a hugely underrated band in my opinion and pretty much anything off Megalithic Symphony is great to work out to. Especially "wake up" and "not your fault". The Mortal Kombat song is great for cardio. Don't act like you don't know it. All of Alice in Chains, Dirt. Michael Jackson's Dangerous album has a ton of good shit and its not like his older, older stuff. Older Michael Jackson shit: Billy Jean and the like Muse: Supermassive Blackhole, Starlight, Map of the Problematique, Uprising, Resistance, Undisclosed Desires. NIN: whatever songs you want Ginuwine: Pony Bootsy Collins: I'd rather be with you Guilty pleasure songs for the gym: Katy Perry: Dark Horse Human League: Don't you want me Halestorn: Bad Romance(Lady Gaga cover) Just to name a few...
Don't judge me on this, but when I was running a half marathon in Vegas in 2013 and was gassing out towards the end. Then they started blaring The Pointer Sister's "Neutron Dance" over the speakers, and wow. That song will pick you up out of the depths of cardio hell.
You're on the right track, but I'll suggest it's best if we go back in time a few years... Another album that is solid from start to finish, and really good for the gym. I especially like Appetite for Destruction for running and cycling.
This might seem like stereotypical "meathead" music, but basically anything by Godsmack is great for working out. I won't bother listing individual songs (unless you want me to), but just about anything in the "Stoner Rock" genre is also good: Monster Magnet, Clutch, The Sword, Kyuss, etc. And I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who said White Zombie.
Lateralus - Tool Do not look down - Meshuggah Voice of contention - Hatebreed A world so cold - Mudvayne Solar flare homicide - Emmure Walk with me in hell - Lamb of God Future breed machine - Meshuggah The saw is the law - Whitechapel I'm broken - Pantera Puritan - Hatebreed It dwells in me - All That Remains Carrion - Parkway Drive Explosia - Gojira Aside from that I like to have a dubstep/Trance playlist for really long drives. For some reason that type of music literally makes time fly in the car.
My Playlist (ideally thrown in with some weird mash-ups): Lose Control - Missy Elliott Yeah - Usher et al DJ got Us Falling in Love - URsher Rehab - Amy Winehouse Mercy - Duffy Sweet Disposition - the Temper Trap We Found Love - Rihanna Call Your Girlfriend - Robyn Bad Romance - Lady Gaga Telephone - Gaga Get Low - Lil Jon Hypnotize - Biggie (I WILL lose my shit during this) Juicy - Biggie Ms. New Booty - Bubba When I was running, I'd alternate The Chronic and The Love Below. I don't really run anymore....mostly HIIT and stuff. I want stuff that's fun, stupid and occasionally makes me smile while I'm hating life.
I love making playlists. I really miss the art of creating mixes to trade with your friends/crushes/boyfriends. Making a playlist for someone is just not the same. Anyway, my most listened to themed playlist is my Bad Bitch playlist, which of course features the Holy Bad Bitch Trinity of Beyonce, Nicki, and Rihanna. It also includes ladies like Azaelia Banks, Peaches, Sleigh Bells, Gossip, Florence and the Machine, Phantogram, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Meg Myers, Grimes, Banks, Santigold, Elliphant, and a bunch of other people that make hard hitting, shit-kicking music to strut to. (It was meant to be all ladies, at least, but I threw in some Kanye because it's hard for his egomania not to rub off on you a little when you listen to him.) I listen to it whenever I need to feel confident or powerful or aggressive and it. fucking. WORKS. On the opposite side of that, I have a This is The Scene In The Movie Where the Protagonist Takes a Long Walk and Thinks About Some Shit playlist, which is mostly various boys with their guitars and girls with their pianos. I listen to it when I'm talking a walk or staring contemplatively out of the subway window and thinking about shit. I also have seasonal playlists. There are songs that are perfect for when it's just becoming spring (light and happy), and songs that are perfect for summer (upbeat, with a higher percentage of guilty pleasures), and songs that are perfect for fall (edgier, with a higher percentage of Bands You've Probably Never Heard Of). For an alt-alt focus: I do not have a playlist full of sad songs to listen to when I feel sad. I've never gotten the compulsion. Maybe I'd listen to my Protagonist playlist during these times instead, but I certainly don't want to be bombarded with songs that bring me even further down and make me cry when I'm already bummed out. And I love crying! But i don't get it.
Listen to it before I go on every run (and yes, I know it was mentioned once on the TMMB/RMMB, but I was listening to it before then hipsters!)
