We'll run this through the holiday. I just got a smoking hot deal on a new coat so I am a very happy camper. Funny how something rather little can completely make my day. What are your little things that make you happy? Also, share everything and anything holiday related, recipes, stories...whatever.
Well happy Bday to me. Toddamus turns 31 at midnight. Living the dream, going back to grad school, dating 25 year old girls, not bad. In honor of this tremendous occasion I will kick off this thread with this.
I had a little thing that pissed me off today... a single character: } I'm building out a rather complicated system right now with a ton of moving parts, and something wasn't working. I spent almost 2 hours debugging it, only to find out that I had put in }} instead of an } in a little settings/properties file. It was a really weird issue where it made the problem look like something totally not what it actually was, so as a result I spent he majority of my morning falling down a rabbit hole. Any programmers out there will know my pain. All this after my truck windshield got smashed out by a rock off of a low-boy trailer hauling an excavator last night... they went around a corner and it dislodged a small fucking boulder from the tire tread, and it smashed dead centre into the windshield. Fucking hell. The only really good news is that the glass company showed up in the cold this morning and replaced it in the driveway first thing today while I was enjoying my morning coffee. But now it's the weekend, so that's all good. Tomorrow I get to spray paint the interior of my trailer... fun times!
I once had a coworker cat | pbcopy a .pem file to me via Slack. Slack of course changed -- to — in one place in the file. Took me nearly a day to track down what the hell the problem was.
In my case, I was overriding a Spring application.properties value with an environment setting based on profiles (launching it in a Docker container), so all of my debugging messages were showing the correct value, but the docker container was adding that extra "}" which was causing a credential failure. It was maddening.
I brought my laptop over to my coworker's computer and was comparing the keys character by character without any (noticeable) difference. I think I eventually ended up hashing each file and seeing that they came out different.
Last week I spent the better part of an hour tweaking a web.config file before I realized that the reason my changes weren't fixing it was because I had the wrong copy of the file open, and was actually editing the one in a network share I used to move it to the server.
I've never wondered about eating chimp, but I have wondered what different birds taste like. Peacock, pelican, condor etc
Oh, snap! Condor is delicious! If you cook it slow with proper basting, it tastes just like Bald Eagle.
My step brother ate a bat that he found on the ground once. I never bothered asking him how it tasted though.
Today has been a shitty roller coaster. I shouldn't have to deal with my boss being drunk before 1 if I can't fucking drink. Especially, when it's now almost 7, and his wife is texting me wondering why the hell he is being a dick to her. Wine anyone?
This is part of why I like hunting, you can look at the outdoors as a buffet. It just takes a 'lil more effort than waddling in from the parking lot and the scenery is way better too. Today we got our first snow, the little thing I like is seeing the trees and everything coated with snow before the wind blows it off. Plus the dog goes apeshit when he gets to run around in fresh powder again too, he's just sprinting laps in the yard.
In actuality Condors are disgusting trash birds, aren't they? I know they're hideous-looking things. They look like a cartoon drawing of a turkey vulture, another disgusting bird. I mean, check out these fucked-up looking things. It's face looks like it's made out of old scrotal sacks:
So this hurt. In order for it not to show with a polo on, had to move it to where part of the flag was basically in my armpit. Getting tattooed in my armpit is now the thing that I hate the most in life. Worth it.
