First off, if you DON'T like Bond, we don't wanna hear it. This is the thread to discuss anything 007. Your most/least favourite films, actors playing Bond, gadgets, cars, sidekicks, villains, henchmen, and of course, the women. My personal favourite: Carey Lowell was too sexy for words in License to Kill.
I just want to say that while I think Daniel Craig plays an excellent Bond, Quantum of Solace was possibly the most boring film I've ever seen. Casino Royale was great. QoS just seemed to drag....and drag.
Agree with Daniel Craig. He's my second favourite Bond, next to Connery. If you haven't I highly recommend you read Ian Flemming's books, and you'll see that Bond's literary character is quite different to how he's portrayed in the films, and the early Connery and now Craig are the closest to that character.
I thought Timothy Dalton (who I actually liked as Bond) bared a good resemblance to Flemming's as well, because of his intensity and mean streak. I think Craig resembles him most, though. Tough, funny and human. Eva Green wasn't the toughest or most likable Bond girl, but probably the hottest. FUCK. Favourite Bond Films: 1) Octopussy 2) From Russia with Love 3) Casino Royale 4) Goldfinger 5) GoldenEye 6) License to Kill 7) For Your Eyes Only 8) You Only Live Twice 9) The Man with the Golden Gun 10) Diamonds are Forever
I thought Lazenby sucked and On Her Majesty's is my least favourite Bond movie. It blows my fucking mind so many fans regard this as among the best, with it's idiotic plot devices (Kojak as Blofeld!?!?) and dumbass bobsled climax. Lazenby was such an asshole to work with Diana Rigg used to eat a handful of garlic before their make-out scenes because she hated his egotistical ass so much. Opinions vary, but I couldn't STAND that entry.
I love the Bond films; to me, they're the perfect representation, (or used to be, anyways) of what a great action film should be; good humor, bizarre villains, fun fight scenes, and suave heroes with ice water running through their veins. I've seen all of them multiple times except for, oddly enough, the two Craig pictures, "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace". As such, I can't rank him among the Bonds; 1. Roger Moore (perfect, by far the best) 2. Sean Connery (great, outstanding, the closest to Ian Fleming's original vision of the character) 3. George Lazenby (criminally underrated) 4. Pierce Brosnan (good, but nothing special) 5. Timothy Dalton (decent) 6. David Niven (yeah...) My favorite pictures are, off the top of my head, 1. The Man with the Golden Gun (Christopher Lee is incredible) 2. Moonraker 3. Diamonds are Forever 4. You Only Live Twice 5. A View to a Kill/The Spy who Loved Me That being said, I think the question of the hottest Bond girl is an easy one; the immaculate Ursula Andress (Edit- Damn, Nettdata beat me to it!);
On Her Majesty's Secret Service had a lot of flaws, but it had some tremendous things going for it too, including arguably the best Bond theme ever. And yes, Lazenby was one of those things; while not quite as good as Connery, the guy was still a superb Bond. He was 6' 4", particularly handsome, and had a wicked sense of humor. There was a constant smirk on his face, and he actually struck one as a devil-may-care rake with a love for violence. So what if he was an egotistical asshole? As far as I'm concerned, that's a positive trait for the role. The cinemaphotography of the movie sucked, and a lot of the scenes and their presentation were poor, but Lazenby was excellent.
I burned through 007 films a couple of years ago and im glad I did. As for ranking the actors who portrayed Mr. Bond: 1: Sean Connery (I shouldn't have to explain myself) 2: Daniel Craig (As KIMaster said he has only done 2 films but he was sick in both of them even though I didnt care for QOS he still did amazing) 3: Pierce Brosnan (Golden Eye was my first bond movie and still one of my favorites all thanks to this man) 4: Roger Moore (My parents favorite probably why he is on the bottom of my list. Dont get me wrong Roger Moore did great but I will never forget the 3 before him) Xena Onatop is one of the hottest badass woman from the Bond films but I love this girl:
Casino Royale might be my favorite movie, shit. That's kinda silly. Craig won me over. There's not one wrong thing in that flick (for me). The sinking palazzo is a little over the top at the end, but it gets a pass because of the death scene. The opening chase/crane scene, I remember seeing that on the big screen with my ass scooted all the way to the edge of the chair it was so tense. I don't remember a movie before or since that did that. I was completely enthralled start to finish. When you're a kid the cheesier old movies were fantastic; you wanted to be Bond. Looking at them with mature eyes they're kind of silly, but fun. As an adult, Craig was so fucking charming and real and dangerous that it was OK to want to be Bond again. Plus Eva Green was flawless in every way. Not only was it one of my favorite female performances, but she's just captivating to look at. Her eyes are ridiculously gorgeous. She reminded me of how golden age dames and romances were supposed to captivate people. Royale also had my favorite theme song. Chris Cornell's tune was on fire. Great intro. Connery is runner up. Some of the crap out of that dude's mouth was just brazen. Then there's this which kills me every time:
1. Connery (The man that will ALWAYS be bond) 2. Craig (Pains me to put him here, I initially HATED his casting) 3. Brosnan (Brought the rugged commando Bond back) 4. Moore (Never cared for him) 5. Dalton (See 4) 6. Lazenby For me personally, I think the best villain was Janus/Alec Trevelyan. Sure SPECTRE is awesome, as is Scaramanga and Goldfinger, but 006 knew how to push every single button of Bond's and was the only real villain to kick the shit out of James. If there's one thing that we all can agree on, it's that this guy was possibly the worst casting decision ever, and probably the sole reason Bond went on hiatus until Goldeneye
I completely agree. I think that Craig is fantastic as Bond and Casino Royale is probably my favorite Bond film, but Quantum of Solace was... Meh. For what it was (a generic action movie), it was OK, but I couldn't truly get into it. I also liked Timothy Dalton as Bond. Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, though? The movies were just OK. Nothing really stood out about either. Agreed. Great song and the movie's intro was excellent. Anyway... While I'm a fan, I haven't seen EVERY Bond movie. I'm currently revisiting some of the older titles. Which ones should I place near the top of the list?
I am proud to say that I still play my 007 games on N64. I think I would kill for an Aston Martin or a Jaguar XKR.
I would perform a contract killing for the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger or the DBS from Casino Royale. It's no coincidence I own a .40 cal Walther P99.
Too bad you can't get one of those nice laser-equipped Rolexes. Fuck the cars, that thing would be endlessly useful (if only for mischievous purposes).
I'm sorry, but I would have an orgasm by just being allowed to drive one of those. I would probably break the rolex. I mean his watches are cool as fuck though, I completely agree. I am just secretly lusting after one of those cars. It would be an added bonus if the car came with all the other goodies too.
Right, so who of you own every single Bond movie (except Craig's 2 movies) and have watched them extensively? I do and have. Roger Moore, for me, is hands-down, the WORST Bond out of all of them. I simply did not like how he portrayed Bond, or the humour he used. So... 1) Connery (based on his first 5 movies) 2) Brosnan (based on his first 2 movies. T.W.I.N.E. was bad - not even Denise Richards' boobs could help this one, but D.A.D. was truly awful in places) 3) Lazenby (only got one movie, or else he'd be higher up) 4) Dalton (two average movies) 5) Craig (one good movie, one crap one) 6) Moore (fuck right off) As for Bond villains, I'll agree with the person who said Trevelyn was the toughest, so... 1) Trevelyn 2) Max Zorin (who else kills his own people with an Uzi, cackling away with each round?) 3) Francesco Scaramanga (Lee is awesome) 4) Number 2 / Emilio Largo (always ruthless and yet charming) 5) Donald "Red" Grant (classic Robert Shaw)* As for the overall movies themselves... 1) GoldenEye 2) From Russia With Love 3) Thunderball (fantastic underwater scenes) 4) The Man With The Golden Gun 5) On Her Majesty's Secret Service As for worst... 1) Moonraker. Bond in space with lasers? Fuck off. 2) Octopussy. Useless villains. Bond should've broken Gobinda in the first twenty minutes of the movie. Since when does Bond tolerate being shot at? Only Roger Moore's Bond does. 3) Die Another Day. The Vanish makes this one only 3rd and not 2nd or 1st. 4) The Spy Who Loved Me. The jetski was the only positive here. Moore ruins it. 5) Live And Let Die. I really like Yaphet Kotto as an actor, but this wasn't that good a film. *I saw he was called Donald Grant in the pull-out leaflet that came with the DVD. He was apparently called Donovan Grant in the book?
