Today is national buffalo soldier day. https://nationaldaycalendar.com/buffalo-soldiers-day-july-28/ Today I learned that there was also a buffalo soldier regiment deployed in WWII. That explains how one survived to 2005 to the age of 111(!). I tried to find any women at all riding a buffalo naked. I got this. Forgive me. Spoiler Happy Friday! Any BBQs planned over the weekend? Also I need to hear how the night went, @Misanthropic . You are celebrating National Get Gnarly Day like a champ.
Today is the last day of running on my own before I start my 4 month marathon training block. I have a few weeks to recover after the race, then I have to start another 4 month block on NYE for the London marathon. I’ve only really had one physical goal in life, and that was to run a marathon. Originally it was before I was 18. Brain surgery put a stop to that. Then marriage and the ensuing dad bod, time raising young kids, then a broken leg and rehab, then 3 years of long Covid. Now that it’s finally here… damn. And not just one, but two. What’s that jackass song line, “if you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough”
I did not have a repeat encounter with Johnny Law Thursday night. Although I jogged much of the way home to avoid running into them, which of course would have made me look even more suspicious. Like @GTE noted, all of this is probably a sign to dial things back. Good thing I can ignore the signs when I want to.
Did you happen to attend the P!nk show at GABP on Wednesday? I went with my wife. I knew nothing about P!nk before the show. I was blown away. Two hours of pedal to the metal awesome.
Pink is fucking awesome. I spent years in the “female” music scene and she was a powerhouse. So many artists are famous because of their producer in the studio. Pink? She’d get drunk at an open mic karaoke show and do an hour long set and bring the house down. Pure, unadulterated talent. And a very cool chick.
If you saw her very first videos, her first album, they clearly wanted to market her as the "white version", like the Eminem of R&B. I'm glad she found her own footing.
She was actually beautiful before all the surgery. The industry and her "colleagues" did her so wrong.
Take this from a fellow Dominican: whatever colorist childhood trauma led him to bleach himself for greater social acceptance, he found out the hard way that even a lighter tone isn't enough to get you in "those" country clubs where the real wealth and power resides.
I've been binge watching Justified for a few days now. I went looking for the song "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." I found a few versions but I like this one the best. Holy shit this woman can sing.
I thought when Chris Stapleton stepped on stage with her to do that song, that it was going to be something truly special. But, in my opinion, they didn't beat the performance you posted. She killed it back then.
