Tonight, enjoy your favorite pinot noir with your (#national) fajita (day). My favorite comes in a black box and costs $17 for 3L, but some of you wine aficionados should share with us your favorites. Your special rare vints, or your palate pleasing weekly purchase from the chain grocery. Spill the wine, my dudes. I'm stuck in line getting an oil change. This place is packed. It's gonna be awhile. I'm so glad it's only 93F, perfect for rolling down the windows and pretending you're in an oven preheating. Today I started a part time gig as a courier for a testing lab. The leg of the trip out to the waste treatment plant was definitely the low point. Apparently windy days really kick up smells. I tried to find a sexy courier picture, but found instead so many muscley men delivering "pizzas".... "Pizza" Here's a sexy lady by Penot. Better. Happy Friday. Stay safe, get tipsy, get randy, get some sleep. Have a great weekend! And you Canadians, stay safe.
I'm a big fan of Pinotage. Basically a hybrid of Pinot Noir and some other grape that's basically only made in South Africa.
I am a big fan of women who like to drink pinot noir and lower their inhibitions. But, I'm also down to eat a fajita.
High School Football begins tonight in California. One of the local High Schools is opening up against a top 10 school in the section that they upset last year. Alas, that game is not being played locally, the other high school wilth a much lessor program is opening up against an equally bad team. It is going to be a long night. But hey, Football.
Dude just spent the last 3 years gutting his house down to the framing and rebuilding it. If he loses it to a forest fire…
Staring down the barrel of a hurricane multiple times doesn't even phase me. Forest fires are a whole different level of fear I have not yet (and hopefully never) faced. There will be no "wait and see" if we ever get one in this part of the country. If it's 3-4 days away, I will be packed and gone that day. The videos of people that waited till the last minute to evacuate from a fire strikes a terror in me I had not previously known. I just cannot watch them.
The scary part about fires is that sometimes you do not get 3-4 days warning as in a hurricane. Sometimes you get 60 minutes or even less as what happened in Lahina. Nett, I am glad your friends are safe. If they lose their home, I hope they have enough insurance to rebuild it.
Did not realize that. That's scary fast. I'd like to think that we can pack a weeks worth of clothes and any of the truly valuable stuff (mostly my guns, important documents and pictures) in about 20 minutes and be on our way like we did in the flood. We actually don't own that much that's "valuable"... No jewelry, no antiques, none of that.
FYI, just found a new really tasty summer drink. Based on Pimm's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pimm's I cut up a slice of blood orange, lemon, lime, put it in a glass full of ice... poured in 2-3(4?) ounces of Pimm's (it's a 750ml glass), and squeezed and added some mint and basil, and topped with ginger ale. Added a star anise to the top of it. One tasted like 3 more. Very refreshing, especially when I added some ginger beer in with the ginger ale.
I've loved Pim's cookies all my life. They aren't always easy to find. I had no idea, when I went to the UK, that they're generically called jaffa cakes there, and available in every grocery store and gas station from a dozen different brands. I must have eaten 50 boxes of them.
Week 3 of marathon training done and dusted. Turns out when I got the most recent covid booster earlier this month, I guess there was still a little bit of long covid left in my system because it flushed that out. For the first time in almost 4 years I can smell again. My heart rate has also lowered again. Resting HR is in the very low 40s, and my average HR on my runs is about 20 bpm slower. Also, my max HR during my sprints is now what my avg HR used to be (avg is now around 140-145 vs 165; HR during sprints is high 160s vs high 180s-190s). Looks like there's also a tropical storm set to hit Texas this week. And SoCal is about to get fucked.
Did up a killer Prime Rib tonight. Made the best beef au jus I've ever made... I'm still belching medium rare and savoury goodness. Also made the most amazing black pepper rosemary rub for the thing. In other news, the dog is still in heat... and acting weird. She's more than a handful. At least the weather is nice and I can get a bunch of yardwork done that I'm way behind on.
