What are your favorite little beach towns along that stretch? Lake Huron is so pretty but the thumb is... weird. Curious about expanding our lake repertoire without having to schlep up past Tawas.
I don't really have any. I tend to drag my Airstream to the Northern shore of Lake Superior. I have to say Port Franks is a funky little place for a cottage, based on the very little I've been there. Been to my friend's cottage 5 times, and fished (launched a boat) out of the public marina there a few times, but that's it. The only thing I've seen of the place is the scenery as I drive to the marina.
I can get into USA. I broadcasted I was buzzed in EPCOT back in March. I got re-entry last fall because the stupid fuck US immigration made a “clerical error”— as in they hired bitter, power-hungry retards to guard their country.
Port Franks is a boater’s community. My parents friends had a house there for a decade but spent all warm weather hours down at the docks with everyone else. I used to love it as a kid because those sand dunes back in the day were wide open for sledding and riding down on pieces of cardboard. Good times.
It's freaking summer, y'all. I was having trouble finding inspiration for a new thread topic and @Nettdata 's gorgeous lake photos fit the bill! Have you been on the lake/river/ocean this summer? I am planted here for the summer but would love to hear about your vacation. Even though I grew up on the Gulf Coast, I've never been a beach person. Probably because my mom wasn't, so we never went. I associate beach with sticky hot weather, sticky sunscreen, sand stuck to everything, warm bath water. I do love time by fresh water though. A lake house is the absolute dream. Happy day, idiots! It's the end of the weekend and I hope you have some relaxing moments. I was able to take a nap today which was a delight. Lately every moment seems to be accounted for.
This was my view yesterday. My brother has a bunch of kids and our wives get along well so it's not often that it's just the two of us. But him and I took the boat out, dropped anchor on the river and just BS'd for a few hours. After that we went back to my place and I smoked the best cigar I've ever had. Also helped that God turned the freaking heater off and it was a perfect low 80's summer day.
Been rafting a couple of times this year, but headed out on the NEW (well, to us) raft this weekend. Can't wait to do our own thing and not have to rent anymore!!
The Park fire is currently the 6th largest fire in California history and only 12% contained was started by some asshole who lit a car on fire and pushed it down a ravine.
Super cool! We're taking our kid on his first whitewater rafting trip in August. I haven't been in so long. I miss my whitewater kayaks, but good whitewater is pretty good drive away now. Not like in my early twenties when I lived in the foothills of NC and the river got good after every rain.
Last I heard they found him in the Nevada desert saying something about Cibola and “bumpty-bumpty-BUMP!”
I either don't listen when my wife is talking or she gaslit the shit out of me, saying I said she could have a chihuahua. Both are equally likely, I think. It's name is Snow. And she's a good girl.
I'm currently sitting at my computer watching IT guys remotely try to connect my PC with servers in the office. They're struggling, and I don't know enough to know why or how to help.
Does anyone else see a lot of those videos of the King’s Guards on Facebook? A lot of them are people who have disabilities or little kids, and they pose for a photo at a respectful distance. Then the guard will move closer or nudge the horse closer. There was one where supposedly the guards little sister hadn’t seen him in a while, and he was on duty. She grabbed his hand and stood close to him while he stood steadfast. But you could see his hand, which she was holding into, move ever so slightly around hers. Anyway, I love those videos. But then I also love the ones where the horse bites the shit out of someone or the guard yells at the person, so…
Firebugs are people that I just don't understand. That's so much destruction. Wouldn't be the first time a dude ruined everything to get their rocks off I guess though.
Since there isn't a dedicated Olympics thread, I'm just gonna post here that I watched all of the Women's Rugby matches today, and both the bronze medal game and the finals were absolutely awesome watches. I won't spoil the results in case anyone plans on watching them later, but if you're NOT... I would recommend finding a replay of at least the bronze medal game, just to at least see the ending. For what it's worth, the total games themselves are very quick; two 7 minute halfs, so it's really only about 20~ish minutes end to end.
When I was in high school, the older brother of one of my classmates was a volunteer firefighter. He paid us $20 to set a dumpster behind a local shopping center on fire so that he could drive the fire truck. It went so well that he asked us again. When we declined, he threatened to beat the crap out of our friend, so we did it a second time. At that point we’d had enough, so when he threatened us again, we told him to get bent, and tell everyone what was going on regardless of the consequences to us. Never heard from him again, but I can’t help wondering how many fires he set himself over the years.
