Happy National Unplug Day. I don't think they are talking about the, erm.... fun kind of plugs. More like electronicals and gadgets. I did a little weeding outside and have more gardening planned for the weekend. But what's new with that, eh? For those of you who have been doomscrollings the Ukraine war, it might be time to get some fresh air and take some deep breaths outside. Spoiler Here's the space that was going to have a naked lady in a meadow but these goddamn stock photos have choked my google image search results. Post your own, help a thread. Love, 'wildered. I'll admit, I don't understand the point of non alcoholic spirits. What does this stuff even taste like? Perhaps @Revengeofthenerds could give us some commentary. I get the non alcoholic beer thing but what is this stuff about? Happy Friday you idiots. Go sit naked in a meadow somewhere and try not to get arrested. I ain't bailing ya out.
Honestly they're excellent at this point, and flavor-wise you wouldn't be able to tell the difference with some of the non-alcoholic cocktails that you can make now. Monday makes a gin and whiskey that could fool anyone, and Spiritless's Kentucky 74 is amazing for Old Fashioneds (as is monday). A good friend of mine even made some killer NA bitters, which I honestly think are more flavorful and bold than their alcoholic cousins. There's now everything from na campari, to a wide range of aperitifs, gins, whiskeys, tequilas, even a convincing vodka. There's also a distilled hemp na that is absolutely fucking killer. As for the point? Well, that part is easy. Some people cannot drink alcohol for health reasons but still love the flavor. I had to stop drinking caffeine because covid make me super caffeine sensitive and gave me heart palpitations with any bit of caffeine, but I still love coffee. Decaff Peet's it is!! Also, a lot of people (like me) just don't have that "off" button when it comes to drinking. Some people can moderate -- some use NA to moderate -- but I don't have that gear to chill and slow down, though I still love the flavor that. Then there's a segment of people who just got tired of the hangovers, wanted to stop drinking alcohol for health reasons, religious reasons, or any number of other factors. Basically, at this point, the quality of non-alcoholic spirits, taste-wise, is such that there's not much point in drinking the alcoholic version, unless the point is to get intoxicated. Which I totally get, and wish I still could sometimes. But if you cannot or don't want the alcohol, there's basically a straight up replacement now. My bar has about 2 dozen different bottles and is growing by the day. We're getting a built-in butler bar in the living room for it all. It's fun, and tastes really fucking good. I'm drinking an na IPA right now, then making a na Hanky Panky after dinner.
Picture of the NA Hanky Panky, made with 1.5 oz NA gin, 1.5 oz na sweet vermouth, and 1/2 ounces of the pathfinder I linked (as a replacement for the 1/4 oz of fernet-branca in the original recipe). Added some NA orange bitters instead of an orange garnish to up the bitter flavor it was lacking with the pathfinder instead of the fernet. It was fucking delicious.
Hey, Cosmo, what are you up to these days? https://www.cosmopolitan.com/sex-love/a39186738/list-of-sexualities/ (Sigh). K...coolsies.....(slowly backing away)
Thank you for the kind thread donation. Did you go straight to femjoy.com or is there some sort of Ukrainian porn aggregate you like to visit?
Finally cut my dog’s nails for the first time since November since he needs his nails for traction on ice. Now he makes no click clack on our hardwood floors as he walks. 80 pounds of stealth dog sneaking up on me all the time now. Gonna have a heart attack if he gives me one more cold wet nose suprise.
Well, just paid $2.20 a litre for diesel. Luckily I only needed a quarter tank, but that was still almost $100.
i was talking with a friend who lives in Toronto. Almost $8 a gallon unleaded for her. I’m at just over $4 for diesel. Gotta love the 33 gallon tanks in our trucks, I only have to cry like once a week. not crying as hard as you though. And sadly this is only gonna go up the longer Russia keeps being an asshole
Yeah, I have an aftermarket extra large tank on my truck. Figured it would come in handy towing long distances. Shows almost a 1k range when full. Luckily I don't drive anywhere unless I want to. Work from home, have groceries delivered, etc. I cannot imagine what a hit this must be for people that have to commute or drive for work.
If I start towing longer distances, that’s definitely something I’m gonna look into. Currently both of our RV trips planned for this summer are well within range and Texas has plenty of truck stops along the way in case I need to top up. But looking down the road, years from now when it’s time for a new truck, that’ll for sure be one of the things I add on, either ordering it that way or aftermarket.
Yeah, my first tow this Spring calls for going over the Great Lakes and hauling to BC for a fishing week with The Boys. 5k kms last time I did it, and probably 20-30% of that road has 9-5 gas stations.
that gives me anxiety just thinking about it. Worst case down here, I can always pull into a regular gas station, unhitch, fill up, then get back on the road. The idea of running out of fuel, especially in the cold, terrifies me. I'd probably be looking into an au fuel tank as well at that point.
Reminds me of my cross country trip. In the desolate parts of the west there isn't SHIT around. You pull off and top off if there's a station, because you don't know when another will be on your path and cell reception is spotty at best.
Flight is going to be a cheaper mode of travel soon. They’re trying to encourage Ontario-based tourism, how the hell can we afford to drive to ANYTHING but our jobs right now?
I just ordered my e cargo bike, the yuba supercargo cl. I cannot freaking wait. My kid is going to have a blast and there will be room for my old dog too. And some groceries.
I tend to look for gas stations whenever the tanks get to half full. Half a tank is 5 hours of driving. That's plenty of time to plan for unless you're looking at doing a long overnight haul in some places. I did that once, but had 2 big jerry cans with me that actually came in handy 2 ways; gave me an extra 4 hours driving time, and let me fill up with gas that was almost half price compared to my home province. Yep. I look at it as if a quarter tank (2.5 hours driving time), is optional, but between 3/4 and 1/4 it's a "pull in if it exists", and anything below that is "if you can't refuel, then look for a place to camp for the night". It's nowhere near as bad as it sounds, but having a 55 gallon aftermarket tank (compared to the 30 gallon "extended" tank that comes as an option) is a huge game changer.
