That's totally it. Except that's not it at all. What you've referred to is colloquially known as booth babes, which for the most part are indeed models from an agency hired by developers to pose with their games. Actually booth babes are beginning to bring negative publicity to developers because of the obvious "sex sells" approach that 99% of the time has nothing to do with the game. PAX, one of the biggest conventions, doesn't allow booth babes on the floor. Cosplayers are just regular people who indeed want to dress up, mostly at conventions. For the most part they make their own costumes and sometimes enter contests. Jessica Nigri was actually just another cosplayer until she won some contest to play as a character from some video game that was thrown by the developer.

I know it's hard to not opine on shit that you know nothing about, but give it a try sometime.

The ones that dress up are the cos(tume) players. Very few of them get paid, and the ones that do generally started out doing it on their own out of fandom, appreciation and fun. Chloe Dykstra (daughter of the oscar winning star wars special effects guy) is another that's pretty famous for cosplay. She has a whole podcast about it on Nerdist (she's also dating Hardwick).

I've never dressed up as anything for a Con, but I'd consider it. It looks like a fun way to bond with people that have similar nerdy interests.

Jesus H. Christ did you even read my post or is this another "They might be attacking something I like BATTLESTATIONS!!!!" bullshit? I know what I've seen with my own eyes, I've been to ComiCon. Yeah, they have the Booth Babes whose talent is being hot, and they had girls who were obviously hired models around the doors and lobbies. Like I said in my post. And like I bolded, most are just people who show up and look like it's the only time of year when they leave the basement. I also have a handle on CosPlay when I watched the CosPlay competition under the big "Cosplay Competition" banner there. And I got to see amusing things, like a 350 lb. man in a Sabretooth costume and Darth Vader fall down the stairs. So yeah, a) I know what it is and b) I wasn't insulting it, it's just nerd-types doing nerdy thing and that's harmless so how about trying a couple deep breaths?

That's what it was, that's what I saw. Call it whatever you want but I have eyes.

Really? Are you fucking stupid or do you not read your own bullshit?

Which as I pointed out is incorrect. Also this cracks me up I have to say. Your hypocrisy is outstanding.

But yeah, you saw a fat man fall down so of course you're an expert.

Yep, I do like sports and I do like to drink beer while watching them. Frankly, I gave up playing pretend when I was a kid. I don't understand the whole fantasy thing and never will, my brain just doesn't work like that.

But anyway, here's a good pic of why cosplay is weird.

Wait, why did you capitalize the adjective? Is there a Bane that's not sexy? If I've learned anything from reading online forums late at night, it's that chicks (and dudes, when the chicks are dressing like the dude) dig the bad boy in a costume covering his mouth to effect his speeches promoting anarchy.

It's not? I have never done that, but can't you find "the weirdo" in any group? Trying having a rational argument about gun ownership without opponents throwing some nutball in your face as if that represents the whole segment. Or, try having a rational argument about too many troops in Guam without someone throwing Hank Johnson in your face. Every car show I've been to has "booth babes," crazy fanatics . . . like every other convention floor ever, etc.

Yes, but people who like cars aren't pretending to be someone else. Most people who like cars don't like to pretend they in some fantasy world. They don't dress up in weird costumes thinking they are Darth Vader.

SIncerely I wasn't trolling earlier, but it seems like the quickest way to get things going around here is to make fun of something nerdy. I remember when I said Game of Thrones was nerdy, that was a fun day.

Some of the costumes at the shows are spectacular, like it was a part-time job to design them. One was like the real Kevin Peter Hall Predator costume with a working shoulder cannon (outfitted with laser pointers) or that 8-armed general from the shitty Star Wars prequels.

They're not? I know NASCAR fans that think they're Jeff Gordon. I guess I see it as dressing like Darth Vader because they like Star Wars instead of "thinking they are Darth Vader." I don't view that a whole lot differently than someone who has every issue of MotorTrend and wears their '68 Mustang GT500 CobraJet 428 T-shirt that they had airbrushed in Panama City beach. A lot of nerdy dorks are a more universal target because of their lack of social skills, but think the obsessive car dude is just as strange. (And, I was just using the "car" thing as the first example that popped into my head - not attacking car dudes.)

Please don't insult people that make spectacular costumes. I would very much like for Roxanne to keep sharing her efforts with us.

No you don't. You know how I know you're lying? Because no real NASCAR fan would ever pretend to be Jeff Gordon. To them, he's a California queer (their words, not mine).

They all pretend to be Dale Jr.
