Corny Sidenote- I'm happily impressed with the level of arguing that is taking place here. Differences in opinion are clear, but everyone is being respectful and writing posts that are intellectual and challenging. Reading the last few pages has made me question my stance on the issue. Interesting. Reading the last few pages has only cemented my belief that the hype surrounding these examples just pushed the popular cultural narrative about women's appearances further into an absurdly negative space.
I don't really get why y'all are so surprised that people got pissed. She posted a half naked picture trolling new moms about their bodies. That's like, the holy grail of stirring people up on the internet. Obviously it's dumb to get pissed about an internet picture, but we all do it all the time. And either she knew exactly what she was doing (likely) or she's super tone-deaf about how it would come across. In short, she was kind of a dick, people overreacted, ladies should do whatever the fuck they want with their bodies free of shame, men should too, internet is serious business, I have rapidly developed non-platonic feelings for Paul George.
Okay. No. Yes. Yes. The something else is a side tangent about how it is effed up and odd that you hear about financially sound families that have the "ideal" environment for raising kids working so hard to have kids but infertility and other medical complications, but the people in way less than ideal situations that have kids who probably weren't trying to have kids just pop them out. Also if you chose to have kids, I never want to hear you complain about them. Unless they do something miraculously terrible like burn down the house or crash your car. Otherwise... they're miracles, little angels, blessings, the future, oh and you chose to have them. No one put a gun to your head and said "have children or I kill you." Nom, she's a fitness blogger. How is that trolling? She is a bloody fitness blogger and she's assuming her primary audience of people that follow her are fitness people as well, that is not trolling. Especially if she's demonstrating she's practicing what she's preaching. Just because one of her followers liked it, it hit their social media that they liked it, then some mommy blogger saw it, got upset and ignited the firestorm. Saying that this woman is a troll, "knew what she was doing" or anything else is retarded and unfair. If this was Kim Kardashian, I'd agree. BUT SHE IS A FITNESS BLOGGER. Wait, 90% of the people getting upset probably skipped over that fact or didn't look at her website or anything else that shows no other signs of her "trolling." None of her other photos are "trolls" so why is it this one? Because people decided to get butthurt after this blogger who needed hits and drama caught it, felt shitty about herself, and spun it for website hits. Just hatorade in purest form. Just because. I think her intentions were good, and her tag line was dumb. From the many who I know, people who revolve around fitness like she obviously does want others to be fit, they don't want to rub it in their face. If she said something along the lines of "It can be done" it would motivate rather than confuse/insult.
I'm talking about Soccer mom here. The original picture. She just posted "Feeling empty" or something like that to continue all the posts of her while pregnant.
Man, what happened to the nice, no-name calling, intellectually challenging conversation we were having earlier? I understand that success breeds haters. Donald Trump, Anderson Silva, Justin Beiber all have great success in their fields and huge numbers of haters. That's just what happens when you put yourself out there. Even at this low level of internet-scandal-fame, Maria Kang made herself available on a public platform to promote, and is dealing with backlash that was bound to happen. Maybe it's the bright pink website, maybe it's the tacky sayings, maybe her motto is poorly worded, maybe it's just women hating on another hot woman but bottom line is, she got hate. Which is interesting because Jillian Michaels (I don't follow fitness celebrities, only one I could think of) is a woman promoting the same ideals, but is received a hundred times more positively.

Paul George is very good at basketball. Women's bodies have long been treated as commodities. I believe that cultural standards about how fuckable they should be at all times play into that.
