Limewire Days are over. Pirating places are getting wrecked.

Ah, Limewire. The pinnacle of “Too good to be true”: anything and everything.......free. In seconds. People will cherish the memory of Limewire and Kazaa the same way they cherish that one weekend where the porn channel accidentally unscrambled.

EA is on damage control. They said they are dropping the unlock cost by 75 percent. And there community managers comment is breaking Reddit history something like negative 575k and gilded 46 times.

    544k and 52 gilded.

I'm sure there are cheaper ways. But I think there's something to be said for supporting the artist. A lot of what I listen to, these people are usually songwriters first and singers second, which means not quite that big yet, so whatever even tiny bit I can do to help. My understanding is they get a bigger cut from itunes than they get from streaming services, and obviously nothing from when you steal it.

Just going through my itunes of stuff I've pre-ordered fairly recently: Jess Moskaluke, Lucie Silvas, Maren Morris, Carly Pearce, Margo Price, Aubrey Sellers, Caitlyn Smith, Walker Hayes, Lindsay Ell..... I'm guessing you've maybe heard of two of or three those.

Not sure taylor swift needs your download, but if someone is just breaking into the industry, every little bit helps. My wife and take our spare change to coinstar once a month and it turned into itunes credit, always have some good music going around the house.

Ive never used anything like Spotify. Can you listen to a full album when they come out(like stream for free)? All of the music I listen to was stuff I downloaded years ago and had transferred to google play music. Vuze still works doesn't it? Last three albums Ive bought from itunes, mostly just to support the artist.

I miss the golden age of video games (8 and 16-bit) largely because it was just a bunch of KIDS who wanted to play video games. The biggest complaint would be along the lines of “The final boss of Drouble Dragon 2 is too easy to beat”.

The video game world became massive since that time and has also become just....yeesh. I’m glad video games matured, I just wish the players didnt, because a chunk of the people who play them (and make them) turned into a bunch of complaining, backstabbing adults. Debates regarding that industry is like arguing politics, it’s the song that never ends.

Vuze still works. Even on our shitty laptop, which I think currently has Gary Busey as a ghost in the machine.

And I far as buying music goes, I have to to keep it legal for work so for those of you on here who buy your music.....at least you get to buy music that you LIKE. Some songs like “Feel it Still” I would have bought anyway because they’re great but some of it breaks my heart to pay for.

Then again I used to pay $19 for a CD for one goddamn song. At least Gotye didn’t make you crazy kids fall for that in this Jetsons era.

Does anybody use Youtube as a jukebox? I mean.... there’s the excruciating torment of those ten second commercials and sometimes you get the long form video when Michael Jackson has to turn into a flying robot to kill Joe Pesci, but it’s free, instant, and has a gazillion songs.

I had used youtube streamed to my chromecast quite a bit. Then Youtube updated their website layout and removed the queue option for casting and it makes you create new playlists every time you want to play a bunch of videos in a row.

All the time! I especially love watching live performances that have been uploaded. It's not the same as being at a show, but I've at least gotten to see concert footage of artists who I will never get to see live.

Spotify is great--$10 a month for unlimited streaming with no commercials. There are very few artists who aren't on it; the only notable exception that I can think of is Tool. Bob Seger and The Beatles weren't on it when I first got it but it was really nice when they were added!

You can’t buy Tool on iTunes either. If you want their stuff, you have to order the cd or steal it somehow.

And this breaks my heart. The gaping hole in my workout playlist is no Tool.

You also can’t get Tay on Spotify. Think she’s an Apple Music exclusive.

She actually was added back to Spotify within the last year, I believe.

Pretty sure both those artists dislike Spotify for the same reason: The REAL content creators- the songwriters- aren’t getting paid by these companies.

I think that I also read that Tool doesn't like the idea of their songs being put on playlists and they want their albums to be listened to in their entirety. But I probably burned a mixed CD with a few of their songs on it at some point.

Their albums are worth buying in the store. The art and originality that goes into their design alone makes them bonifude collector items.

Tool, particularly Maynard Keenan and Adam Jones believe in total artistic freedom when it comes to writing, recording and distributing. They hate executives, censorship and believe “the suits” shouldn’t exist in music at all, and fans should buy their music directly from artists and musicians.

In an imaginary perfect world, that would be awesome.

I mean you can just buy the cd on amazon, get it 2 days later and then put the music in your library. And then to your phone. It’s just an extra step.

I use Spotify a lot, but the free version. One thing it's good for is movie soundtracks. It's hard to make album playlists, like create a playlist with Rush's new album, or something, because after two songs or whatever, it switches to songs similar to Rush (like there are any! duh). But, soundtracks are compiled of a whole bunch of different artists, so you can create a playlist of all those. One of my favorites is the Baby Driver soundtrack. The actual soundtrack doesn't have Simon & Garfunkel on it, but with Spotify I added it, making my version superior to the official release. Hit shuffle play on the app, and it's great for a workout.

I get the idealism, but its easy for them to say that when the Internet exists and they can control distribution. Its not so easy when you have to hand out CDs at concerts in a pre-Internet world.

I think that’s a big contributor to why some artists started their own labels back in the 90’s. Trent Reznor had the label “Nothing” which gave him complete control and was a big success. Others had less luck.
