As much as I want to condemn this comment as sacrilege, I don't have any ground to stand upon. I rarely listen to hip hop, but can't listen to anything from that era (I don't count NWA as that era even though they started in the late eighties).
At that time it was a genre in its relative infancy, so while it was groundbreaking and exciting, it comes off as incredibly dated now. I'm not even a huge fan, but if you transported Kendrick Lamar back 30 years he would have melted their faces off. Hell, if you played Run the Jewels 2 for somebody in 1988, they would have pushed you into a ravine, driven your car into the nearest small town and begun burning it down piece by piece.
How can you say rap is better today than it was in the 80s? Who nowadays is rapping about real life things like going to the buffet? Speaking of buffets today is Veterans day and I work for a government contractor which means no one is at work today other than the contractors. Work has decided to take us to the Mongolian BBBQ for lunch as a reward for coming in. I will be playing this on repeat the whole trip there.
This is so interesting to me because while I completely agree with you here, I don't feel this way about other genres of music I listen to. I'm a big fan of metal, but I can enjoy listening to the metal pioneers as much as modern metal - which is pretty much the default sentiment of almost everyone who enjoys metal. It makes me wonder just how much heavy metal has really evolved from its roots, even though I can very easily tell the difference between a metal song from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond. I think the difference is that the evolution of heavy metal (and other music genres such as rock, blues, country, and so forth) represents the evolution of a musical style, the evolution of hip hop represents the evolution of an art form.
Isn't this why so few hip hop acts don't fade into obscurity after one or two hits while acts in other genres that hit it big tend to last beyond when the group members call it quits?
I'm heading up to my daughter's school to look at apartments for next year and to read over the leases, etc. She goes to the same one I did and when I went there I paid $600 for the WHOLE semester, although I paid the utilities separate. The place we are looking at is $2800 for the semester, for each girl and there will be four of them. Everything is included, but that sounds ridiculous. A friend of mine whose daughter goes to Penn State found a place for $450 month all inclusive. I think we're being ripped off. So, this should be fun. Edit: Hey! Found money in my jeans pocket. Day JUST got better! About 10 whole dollars.
The rent is too damn high Well, in fairness the cost of education & living, even at Pittsburgh Community College and Truck Driving School, has gone up a lot since 1948. Uh, and what happened to Nett's reply? Is there a glitch in the Matrix?
Re: The rent is too damn high No, I misinterpreted month for semester and realized that my reply had no grounding in reality. I did the $12k/month math, wrote the reply, then re-read the original, and then realized it wasn't as outrageous as I thought. Easier to delete the post than explain. Or so I thought.
Re: The rent is too damn high You're so stupid Nett. And fuck you Rush. Okay, I typed that, then got scared. Joking!
So did the tours, one place isn't so bad. They'll probably go with it. Did the mom thing and took her to dinner and the store for stuff. And despite her living in a coed dorm, I did not see any guys walking from the shower to their room this time in just a towel. And I waited outside the bathroom for like, 30 whole minutes. It's like guys don't care about personal hygiene anymore.
Hmmmm...valid point. Next time I'll keep it to 10-15 minutes tops. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there an argument on here several weeks back how that was cool? Or is that only if they're under 18?
