That's funny you mention how New England fans turn everyone else into Pats haters, I've had the same experience with the Giants and their fans. Before 2007 I had nothing really against the Giants other than Eli Manning, but after a year and a half with Long Island kids and their Giants jerseys I can't stand the team. Damn New Yorkers. I was over at Louie's Tavern on Admiral Street, not sure if you're familiar with it or not it's one of the main bars for PC kids. And rumor has it that the owner is/was in the mob so that's always fun.
I'm guessing Colts will see their first loss against the Titans or Saints will see their first loss from the Falcons. If neither lose there, I think their first loss will come in post season play. I would LOVE to see Colts v. Saints superbowl. The 2 best QB's in the league right now face to face would be amazing to see. And please don't tell me Favre is better than either of those two.
The Vikes must have a contest going on in the lockerroom: who can get the fastest speeding ticket. First AP gets clocked at 109, now Berrian gets clocked at 104 - TWO DAYS LATER. I'm just waiting for Jared Allen to pull out some souped up muscle car he's been hiding from everyone, getting clocked at 140. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4716172
That fumble call in OT of the Saints game was so close. I don't think they should have been able to overturn it either way. Nothing indisputable about any of the angles I saw. also 12-0! 21 straight. One more for the record.
4th quarter. 2:00 left. Down by 14. No timeouts. Welcome to December my fellow Dallas fans. Fuck, I hate December. Edit 58 seconds left...down by 7. No time outs. Onside kick. Please Lord. PLEASE! Edit Edit Nope. Still hate December.
Love that the Niners lost to the Shithawks! Everyone here in Cali has been telling me how easily the Niners could make the playoffs with their schedule! I kept telling them they aren't a good enough team to rely on them to beat teams like Seattle, St. Louis, and Detroit, and look what happens! My team blows though, Tampa Bay sinks to 1-198. Oh well, #1 draft pick possibly!
Seriously Steelers? wtf is this shit? Anyone who could actually watch the game give a recap of how they blew this one?
It was only a matter of time until the Vikes had a bad one. I'm glad to get it out of the way, frankly. HOWEVER, I'm scared because this just really shows Chilly's complete inability for making adjustments. Rather than completely abandoning the run, fix it with correct play calling and adjusting blocking schemes. You have the best RB, or one of the best, in the league, don't take the ball entirely out of his hands. You played directly into the Cardinals game plan.
Here's what I think: Not having Polamalu is killing this team. He's the definite leader. The defense didn't give up those long touchdown drives in the fourth quarter because of a lack of talent. They're missing a leader who carries the team and enforces the right attitude. The way the dude runs around like a crazy headhunter is infectious. He pumps everybody up and gets in their faces when he's on the field. No less of an outstanding literary football mind than Jerome Bettis wrote an article the week after Polamalu went down basically stating the same thing. I think it's bogus when football fans blame a team's ineptitude on an injury and say things like "We would have won if Player X was playing". I think it's pretty relevant in this case though. Polamalu on the field gives the defense a heart it's just not showing right now.
EJ Henderson's leg injury was the worst I have seen since Theisman's. It looked like his lower leg did a complete rotation independent of his upper leg. Brutal. Glad to see Favre showing that he is a fraud once again. Stick around long enough after winning a superbowl in your early years and you too can lead a bunch of statistical categories and bitch and moan your way into the hall of fame.
Way, way, WAY too fucking early for this. Dude isn't allowed to have one bad game in 16? He's got a 26/5 ratio, which is still a league low for interceptions, tied with Rodgers. And with the bizarre looks Arizona was giving him, and the way the lines were playing tonight, we didn't deserve to win. Now if he sucks for the rest of the year, I'll admit I was wrong. But it's a little early for people to start bitching about "the inevitable collapse".
Completely agree. He went what, 2 TD, 2 INT (I'll discount the late TD). Brady went 2/2, Brees 2/1, Manning 1/0. If you're honestly going to blame this on Favre, then you didn't watch the game. This loss falls solely on Childress, Bevell, and Frazier. They could not make a single adjustment (the O-line looked terrible, piss poor play calling, secondary couldn't cover more than themselves). The loss of EJ is huge. He went down last year, and being the heart of the D really hurts the Vikes all around. Greenway and Leber look lost out there quite a bit.
Favre contributed to the loss, but so did the rest of the team. Neither of his picks were unlucky, they were terrible passes. What might have hurt their offense more was the complete lack of a running game. Was that the worst game of Peterson's career? I can't remember a time he started and got less than 20 yards. The o-line got dominated, and all of this just happened in a game where their defense couldn't play well enough to keep them in it. What was most interesting to me about the game is that it's the first time this year I've seen the vikings consistently outplayed. The loss to the steelers looked like a fluke, where they basically got beat on two red zone turnovers (both ran back for TDs by the steelers D) that shouldn't have happened. I get why so many Vikings fans have gripes with Childress. I always thought he'd make a better GM than a head coach; his in-game decisions are awful. For anyone who hates Favre though, lets not kid ourselves, he's still in the top 3 candidates for MVP this season. And yes, he's earned it.
He learned from the master of inept in-game adjustments - Andy Reid. As a disgruntled "I know what's going to happen in the end" Eagles fan, I can tell you the organization that brought Childress up has a terrible time making in game adjustments, managing the clock, and getting plays on the field in time. As for my Favre reaction - halfway tongue in cheek, but after seeing the guy cough it up so many times against the Eagles, I really don't expect him to be able to keep it together in the playoffs, and do think that he has been living off of inflated media praise for too long. If Childress can do the smart thing and let AP own the game, instead of forcing Favre to make all the plays late (interceptions much?) I think he will do just fine.
I'm consistently surprised by the lack of respect for the Cardinals when they win. It is surprising that nobody is talking about how they played out of their minds great. Everyone focuses on the Vikes' mistakes and not the fact that they were outcoached and outplayed. I would be wary if I was a coach in the NFC.
Jesus, it's gotta be rough to be Aaron Rodgers this year. Between the horrible offensive line, dropped passes, and ridiculous penalties, it's a miracle they're still in playoff contention. Luckily, the defense has played very well -- minus the shit ton of penalties -- and Rodgers' continued remarkable play. If they somehow end up with 11 wins, he has to be top 3 MVP consideration. Obviously Peyton/Brees is the top choice, but Rodgers has been damn magnificent.
I mostly agree with this, but because of the way MVP voters think he doesn't have much of a chance. I just don't see them giving it to Rodgers when veterans with equally sexy numbers have better win records. While there was some bad drops tonight the receivers have played up to Rodgers' level all season, and I don't know how to put this, but he hasn't had the 'wow me' win yet this year. All of GB's losses are heavily correlated with their worst defensive performances. It's hard not to get excited about his play though. This kind of reminds me of the 49ers transition from Montana to Young. The franchise quarterback is the holy grail of the NFL, so it's nice to go from one to another so quickly.
