I'm a huge Vikes homer and even I was digsusted by the Favre Fellatio. What I gathered from last night: 1) When the O-line feels like playing, they can be dominant. Most of the time they just feel like going through the motions. 2) Our downfall has NOT been because of Favre. I think that was proven last night. 3) Our secondary is vastly overrated. Our safeties are garbage and I would say that our linebacking core, after losing EJ Hendersen, is probably in the bottom 5 in the NFL. Greenway looks absolutely fucking clueless out there (which may be in large part because of the EJ loss). I won't trash Brinkley too much because he's a rookie and you can't expect anything out of him. 4) I would not be surprised to see AP get pulled from tight spots from here on out. Chester has proven that he can be just as effective (although not as explosive) and hangs onto the ball. 5) I don't know who calls the defensive plays, Chilly or Frazier, but something needs to change. If anything, try more zone blitzes rather than all out blitzes. Our secondary is not strong enough to handle 1 on 1s. 6) Special teams went from really good to really terrible in 5 weeks. I could keep going but I'm too frustrated and I've already started throwing things around my office. Also, don't get me started on the two blatant non-calls that lead to the Bears TD after the Vikes first score (missed block in the back on Manning return, missed hold on Forte first down). I need to drop this for the safety of my heart.
Favre needs to call every play ala Peyton Manning. I think he should just do it and dare Bevell and/or Childress to bench him. He should throw the ball 50 times a game if needed, and I will gladly mind his stepchildren if he progresses us through the playoffs.
Agreed. Childress sucked his dick to get him here for us, he should let him do his thing. Loved the wave offs in the bear game. If only AP could hold on to the rock when it's frozen solid, or... ever, really.
The New York Giants are an embarrassment to the NFC east, and our division is a tad overrated and we do have the Washington Redskins. Case in point New York absolutely stinks. Vikings fan's don't get too excited about this win, your squad performed exactly how it should against a pathetic team like the Giants. Don't get me wrong I had picked the Vikings to be the NFC champs; but after watching the Giants get creamed last week by a sub par Carolina team with a back up QB at the helm and the second string running back (although Stewart has been productive all year) and then not even bother to show up and play with an ounce of pride today I wouldn't chalk this up as an impressive victory. I don't think I have ever seen an NFL season with so many awful teams (Cleveland, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Skins, KC, Lions, Oakland.....) ect.... before everyone starts posting about the fluke wins (tampa over saints, oakland over eagles) ask yourself are any of the squads just mentioned any good? I can't stand the Giants so i don't know why I even care it just seems like I have seen a lot of bad football this year. Thank God the playoffs are coming soon...........
Favre was great today. Looks like the Vikings FO decided that it was a great idea to have Favre spread it out and just let our playmakers play. Should be interesting if this can translate into the playoffs, and against teams that haven't mailed it in.
Watching this game tonight is going to make me sick. The jets have no business going to the playoffs. Luck does play a factor in this league and when they get there it'll be proof. I'll probably turn it off at half time and go drinking.
The Bengals have 7 total yards in the first half, and the Jets are the team that has no business being in the playoffs? That is the worst half of football I've seen this year from any team. The Jets had a decently tough schedule this year, lost several games on the last plays, and have the best run game and one of the best defenses in the NFL. How are they not as deserving as the Steelers or Texans? I'd be pretty fucking embarrassed if I was in Cincinnati right now. It was in their best interest to win this game and play Houston next week but instead they will have a pumped up confident Jets team that very much believe they will win that game.
Saturday: Jets-Bengals 4:30 pm ET, Eagles-Cowboys 8:00 pm ET. Sunday: Ravens-Patriots, 1:00 pm ET, Green Bay-Arizona 4:40 pm ET. http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/7355109676 3 rematches of games from this week
EVERYBODY PLEASE WATCH THIS!!!! I usually don't like this kind of thing but it is just great............ <a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uHCcaqLUmM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uHCcaqLUmM</a>
People expecting Manning to run away with MVP. I don't have anything against Manning, but this bothers me somehow. Was he really the best QB this season? I think I'd take Rivers, Brees, Favre, or Rodgers over him. With so many QBs having great seasons this year we know the award isn't going to another position. I don't think it belongs to Peyton Manning though.
I agree with you...Manning did have a good season, but to be more accurate, he had a great start to the season. Over the last 8 games, he was still very good, but nothing out of the ordinary, certainly no better than any of the other QBs you mentioned. I think his fast start, the 23 consecutive wins record, and the 7 4th quarter comebacks are what have people favouring him. I wouldn't be disappointed if he won it, but I think you could make a very good case why someone else deserves it more.
Peyton Manning wins NFL record 4th MVP. http://www.indystar.com/article/201...004/SPORTS/Manning-makes-history-4-MVP-awards I think he clearly deserved it, but I'm a Colts homer.
What about that one guy who broke Marshall Faulk's record for yards from scrimmage and is one of only 6 players ever* to surpass 2k yards rushing? I was thinking he deserved at least some consideration. *Special note: 3 of the other 5 besides CJ won the MVP award when they did it. Apparently CJ can't even get a vote, that's sort of strange. edit: this isn't so much a reply to you as it is to how I think the MVP voting is a bit off in general.
The biggest thing against Johnson, was his team going 7-9 and missing the playoffs. It's pretty hard to say you're the MVP of the league when your performance doesn't help your team get to the playoffs. It's not to say his season wasn't worthy of note. I think he should be a shoe-in for offensive player of the year.
Yeah I know. Same argument as in MLB MVP voting. I just think it's sort of dumb that if his team had won 2 more games and gotten into the playoffs that completely changes everything. Maybe if Kerry Collins hadn't been busy shitting up the place for the first 6 or whatever games it was of the season, things would've been a lot different.
Also doesn't help when they faced off twice and Peyton played very well while CJ had games well below his season averages. Obviously they don't play literally against each other, but that's the kind of stuff that a lot of MSM types look at. I would put a couple QBs ahead of CJ just because the passing game is a bigger factor in winning than running. Balance is better than one dimension, but if you have to pick one to be good at, air it out.
I am digging Gibbs in the booth and kind of cool hearing his old qb in there with him (and I am not usually a big fan of Theisman's announcing).
It's amazing how quickly kickers can go from being All-Pro level to complete bums. And it's not like Graham is the first.
I'd like to personally thank him. If you remember, I made a bet that if the Bengals won the Super Bowl I'd shave my head. Thanks, in large part to that douche, I don't have to. Also, as Cincinnati's largest Bengal-hater, I absolutely cannot wait to hear what the excuse for this year's meltdown ends up being. Can't blame the Steelers for taking out Carson Palmer this year, so what will it be? The officiating? The cold weather? I'm literally ecstatic to give all kinds of shit to the fairweather Bengal "fans" I work with on Monday. Can't wait! ***Quick update*** The answer is decidedly "Shayne Graham".
Ignoring that they missed 2 FGs, but lost by 10. The Bengals D got embarrassed. 6.4 YPC for Shonn Greene and 15 yards per completion at 80% completion for Sanchez.
