Pretty crazy series of 1pm games today. Lots of last minute excitement. When I saw Stafford take that hit I said to myself, "welp, your season's over." Detroit has a short week with the Turkey Day game so I doubt he'll suit up. That kid has a really strong throwing arm by the way. It caught my attention earlier in the game when he would scramble and still be able to launch it. Amazing that Cleveland v. Detroit was one of the most exciting games of the day. Amazing.
Brady Quinn was a monster today. Too bad it didn't matter. The best day for a Cleveland QB in years is ruined by the fucking Lions?!
Either this is some kind of sick joke or the Raiders actually came back and won a game, scored more than 10 points, and actually didn't give up a sack or any bad penalties. Gradkowski tied Russell's TD total in 1 game. SAD
You and I, we're going to have words one day. Strong words. I'm very interested to see what happens with Detroit after this season. This combination of Stafford, Smith and Johnson is intriguing, and it'd be nice to see someone throw a wrench into the NFC North. God knows the Bears don't feel like stepping up.
That D is still horrific though. The Browns had scored 75 points in their 9 previous games (8.3/game) and 26 in their last 5, they put up 37 on the Lions D. The sad thing is that their D is probably still improved from last years.
Anybody else astounded that the Texans are holding Tennessee? I did not expect them to be stuffing Johnson like this. My guess is that they won't be able to keep it up, but at least they look good for now.
who loses first, Colts or Saints?? I think the saints lose first just because the Colts look like a stronger team. Although if the Saints can get past the Pats they got a pretty easy road. While the Colts are not playing excellent teams, the only gimmie is Buffalo. Well you missed a great game. Plus, neither of these teams are bad. Anybody who has been paying attention knows the titans aren't the same team they were at the beginning of the year. The texans have a great pass offense and while their defense has remained average, since the opener they've kept it close in every game they lost. I agree the saints are more likely to lose first. Not sure the colts the better, but the saints are stuck with New England (who should have beat Indy) this Monday.
Good??? Compared to who? St. Louis and Cleveland? At most I will give you average. They are 5-5 and 4-6, ranking 18th and 19th in the power rankings. It may have been a good football game because they were evenly matched teams but they are not good football teams. You will not see them in the playoffs, and most likely see about three or four players from the combined teams in the pro bowl. For those of you who just enjoy good football you probably did enjoy that game, I find myself (other than watching my favorite team) watching the top teams in the league.
You sure neither of these teams will make the playoffs? Houston is only one game back from the wildcard and while the titans' record is shabby, after winning four games straight they're starting to look dangerous. To be fair there's a lot more parity in the AFC now and this won't be like last year where an 11-5 teams doesn't get in. I won't be surprised if a 9-7 team makes it. Personally, I just love to watch Chris Johnson. He'd be near the top of the MVP talk if their record was better, and still has an outside shot to win if the titans close the season strong. If he manages to rush for 2,000 yards he won't get ignored.
Is anyone else not really looking forward to Thanksgiving day football? I mean, I get that the Lions have always played on Thanksgiving, and that it is a tradition for them to play. I also get that they suck, and whatever game they're in is likely to be a beat-down. Green Bay is going to likely blow Detroit away, but Detroit always plays on Thanksgiving, so that is fine. My annoyance is that they put the Cowboys against the Raiders. Most people knew going into the season that the Raiders weren't going to be a very good team, so why was this the Thanksgiving game? Give me Dallas against a division rival. Give me Dallas-Washington, or Dallas-NYG, or Dallas-Philly. Don't give me the fucking Raiders. I guess I can hold out hope that one of them will be a decent game, though. At least Giants/Denver MIGHT be a decent game, for the eighteen people that get the NFL network to see it.
I am so glad that I will be getting the local broadcast of the game because I don't think I can even get the NFL network. I do wish that they would give us better games to watch. I am so tired of seeing Dallas and Detroit. Like it is so hard for the NFL to realize that Detroit is going to suck. Why can't they give us a Patriots-Colts game (Even though I hate the Pats) or if they have to shove fucking Dallas down our throats can't they play the Giants.
Green Bay just lost two of their better defenders (Kampman and Harris) for the year with knee injuries. That might let the Stafford to Megatron combo keep Detroit in the game. Of course both of them are playing injured so it could quickly turn into Culpepper to Dennis Northcut and a Packers blowout.
I'm not too worried about losing Harris for the season. He's really dropped off over these last two years and as of now I'd say Tramon Williams is the better CB anyway. While depth is good at LB losing Kampman hurt a lot more because he's the best pass rusher on our team. My belief (hope) is that the packers still have a much better defense than last year even without these players. I don't think these injuries are as damaging as the media is making it out to be.
Kampman is playing out of position in the 3-4. He's much better rushing off the edge in a 4-3. He's at a disadvantage when he has to drop back into coverage and chase backs and such. As much as I love him as a player, he's just not the right fit for the new GB defense.
For that reason there's been a lot of talk about trading him in the offseason. It's hard to gauge what he's worth after going down for the season and approaching 30. It's still all speculation, but maybe they'll get a second round pick.
As much as I would hate to see him go, if they were able to get something of substantial value -- as much as you can trading in the NFL -- I wouldn't be opposed to Kampman being traded. Hawk, Barnett, and especially Matthews continue to make tremendous improvements throughout the year and if they can find a 4th LB to fit, they'll be in great shape. It would be nice, however, if they could get some young secondary help -- Harris and Woodson can't play forever -- you'd have to really like their defensive outlook.
