The Oakland Athletics just signed their catcher Kurt Suzuki to a four year contract. Finally, someone decided that the team needs to have some continuity and that they cannot keep letting all the young talent leave.

This'll be fun to watch. Kind of a big deal, these two.

Congratulations are in order for Matt Garza's no-hitter at Tropicana last night. This was also the first no hitter for the Rays in their franchise history. A sweep against the Yankees this weekend would be fucking awesome.

Don't forget about Mauer's 5 hits and 7 RBI's. A performance like that is far more uncommon than a no hitter. I think I saw that there were over 100 no hitters in the same time span as there were 23 5 hit/7 RBI (or better) offensive performances. Great night for both of them.

Look's like the Phils locked up Roy Oswalt. I pretty happy because they got him to waive that 16 million that he was getting in 2012.

I would be doing flips if the Phils were in first place and had a healthy line up, Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels is a nasty three man rotation. However we are still going to have to fight to win the NL East or squeak in on the Wild Card.

It makes me happy to see the Phillies continued commitment to getting talent, despite a bad season this makes me happy. I was a little let down when the Phils fired the batting coach (Milt Thompson) clearly they were hitting like shit but it seemed silly to blame one man. Because of his popularity with the players it felt more like management getting rid of the players favorite toy.

Unfortunately for Rubén Amaro, Jr, he lives or dies with Oswalt. If Oswalt stinks up the joint RA will be packing his bags, if he does well he could get forgiven for the "Cliff Lee incident."

Like Hamels, though, Oswalt can't survive on poor run support like Halladay has. I'm sure it was nerves last night, so I have faith he'll perform the rest of the season. Problem is, it's the bullpen and the offensive injuries that have been the bigger problem. Guess there were no solid offensive second-tier utility guys out there.

    Hello
I am posting this for any Cubs fans out there. I am collecting names and available supplies for the bunker. Said bunker will be our home while Cubs are so pitiful the French are calling them pussies. Pirates fans are welcome as well. Woodford Reserve is the initiation fee.

And then he promptly went 2-14 in the series as the Cardinals swept the Reds in Cincy. Sit on it Phillips! Go Cards.

Yet another possible no hitter going on right now for the Blue Jays' Shaun Marcum, against the A's. He's given up 2 walks and one guy reached on an error, but still no hit's in the 7th inning.

And with that, I'm sure I just jinxed it and he'll give up a hit to the next batter he faces.

edit: first batter of the 7th inning hits a homerun... The jinx strikes again.

How can the Phillies be so awful against Houston?

The run support given to Cole Hamels is flat out embarrassing. 31 innings and only one fucking run.

Holy fuck, I'm not one to complain about calls, but the crew at the Phillies game the past two nights have managed to fuck up several calls, badly, that potentially cost them two games.

And I don't blame Howard for being pissed. The night before, they missed the call on the tag on Bourn, missed the call on him being out of the baseline, and then missed two more on check swings at a very important at bat last night - but to be fair, the first check swing could have gone either way.

In the end, I suspect this will be good for the Phils, it will make the angry, put a chip on their shoulder, and when that happens, they're ferocious.

This is my all time favorite response to a blown call, from an article in Sports Illustrated:

Well, the Phillies have surprised a lot of people by losing three straight against the Astros.

But even more disappointing, is the fact that the Braves have failed to increase their lead during these three days, including a blown 10-1 lead against the Rockies.

Where do both teams stand at this point, after these very odd three days? I wonder if this blown nine run lead will come back to haunt the Braves in the long run. This game will be the first that comes to mind if the Phillies take the division by a game, that is for sure.

The Astros have the best record in MLB against the phillies. Fucking pathetic. How can we beat the Giants and lose to the Astros and Nationals?

Everyone in Philly talks about our pitching if we continue to score like this pitching won't matter, the run scoring and run support is pathetic. Cole Hammels is this years Matt Cain.

Fucking this. Hamels has been pitching out of his mind over the last 8 starts. All of the Phils starters are having decent outings and this offense, which should be one of the best in the NL, is and has been ridiculously unproductive. When you look at the box scores, it's even weirder, they get hits.

They don't hit with RISP. They better figure this shit out, and soon. The Braves are for real, and the Phils are fucking lucky that the Braves have hit a rough patch. They won't continue to get this lucky.

Also, what the fuck is up with their baserunning mistakes? It's like they're asleep out there.

    Chapman Story

Aroldis Chapman was recorded throwing a pitch at 105 mph while throwing regularly at 103 during his last relief outing. 2 different radar guns recorded the same speed.
