I'm willing to bet the Op-Ed Sports pages had all these same arguments in them when they went to a 16 game schedule in '78. The players will be fine, the coaches, the teams will adjust, and more importantly (and more to the point) the gambling on football will escalate. Do you silly bitches think that Monday night football was the league's idea? Fuck no. MNF is around because the bookies wanted another night for people to feel they could clear their debts, and thus end up owing more.
I believe Monday Night Football came about because ABC wanted a piece of the action. CBS had the National conference and NBC had the American Conference. They did not want ABC to go head to head against the other networks and hurt the ratings so Monday night it became. But I was pretty young at the time and just getting interested in football. I do remember the first time you actually got to see highlights of the previous games were during the Monday night game. There was no ESPN, and the local news stations did not get the highlights until after Monday.
What? Since when does the NFL have 2 bye weeks? Though I do think it might be a good idea to have an extra bye week. Seriously, this sport is absolutely brutal.
Who wants that? Watching Brady break Marino's TD record was great. Now watching them break record because they have two more games? Lame. Also there will be more injuries, with more time on the field the injuries will increase. Meaning we have a better chance of losing a starting QB for the playoffs. Also what makes you think these will be quality games? You already have teams like the Colts sitting half their starters at the end of the season, these last two games could be a re-run of a preseason game in some cases. I just simply do not see the need to add two more weeks, yes of course I love gambling on it but a real reason I can't find.
I don't think there is a real reason. It was done because the NFL wants more money. It depends on your level of fanhood, but hardly anyone gives a shit about the preseason games. They want asses in the seats and enough viewers to keep pumping out commercial breaks every other time the whistle blows. I didn't mean to say there won't be more injuries, simple math demands that it will happen, I just felt the 'increased danger' talk was getting overblown. The last two games of the season will probably be about the same as the last two games of the season now. However, I can damn near guarentee you will virtually never see starters benched in weeks 16 and 17 going forward. It's a competitive league, and teams will fight like hell until they have the #1 seed locked up. It will never be common for teams to start 15-0 and shove thumbs up their asses until playoff time. For the records, I'd feel cheated if I was Tom Brady, but I think most players have to accept that almost every record gets broken at some point, and unpredictable changes in the league can help future players. It happens in every sport. This could be worse, it could be baseball.
It's already been mentioned that there will be two bye weeks when the league goes to an 18 game schedule. You can count on that happening. I think three would be appropriate. The NFL did actually have two bye weeks in a season--that was in 1993. I don't know what the reasoning was for that, but I didn't mind. Personally, I think the league should keep it a 16 game season and add another bye week for each team. I still sit on my ass all of Sunday and watch football even if my favorite team isn't playing.
Figures that when the Chargers are dominating they're blacked out, even on the NFL network. This is the worst kind of bullshit! Anyone know any way to watch em?
Oh good lord being a Giants fan is painful. Is anyone else watching this shit? Both of these teams need new Offenses.
The have the worst punter and kicker in the league. Their defense is finally playing and their offense is shitting in their pants. I want to smash my TV.
I just set my Facebook status "Eli Manning and Jay Cutler are having a competition to see who is the biggest fucking loser. Eli Manning is winning only because he looks like a dead sloth." I'm sad about Vick, there goes the only feel good story of the season. He got crushed, no way he's not out two weeks. I'm so fucking happy the Colts lost, fuck the Colts, fuck Peyton Manning and their lame coach.
That's funny I just set my facebook status to "Vick's too hurt to play, huh? Well, I guess they'd better douse him with water and attach a car battery to him." That game was awesome and LOL @ Cutler hurting his vagina. Fuck the Bears and their fans for thinking they were going to be 9-0 or whatever heading into the Vikings game. They are lucky to have 1 win. Packers once again looked like shit however and the defense better pull their heads out of their asses soon.
That punter might be retarded but JESUS what a leg, he can punt the ball 50-60 yards every time. If he can learn some accuracy he might be good, we just got spoiled with Jeff Feagles.
Thank you, Nate Clemens, for being this years Dre Bly. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Good hustle (again) Roddy.
Thoughts on tonight's game? I think we're gonna have a high scoring game due to the less than stellar secondaries of both teams.
Someone should tell Devin McCourty its against the rules to shove receivers to the ground before the ball gets there. Also, what is this shit play calling by the Pats? I don't think Brady has thrown the ball more than 6 yards, we look like the Bills right now.
As a Bears fan, let me say fuck you back sir. The Bears fans that actually watch football STILL expect this year to be a disaster. but at least we know the Vikings are in worse shape then us. Every game we will have the conversation about Mike Martz's high sacks and turnovers and if Jay Cutler looks like a teenage girl that just got jizz in her eye for the first time. As a Pats fan, you people need to remember Coach can make some fucking half adjustments. Also you should know he's going to turn these no name scrubs into real men. Ninkovich? Fucking Ninkovich? Welcome to the fucking team. I don't acknowledge white running backs not named Alstott or Hillis so I'll move on. Tyler Thigpen is still in the NFL? Ha. Ha. Ha. Can I get on a team?
