ESPN Films is airing a story tonight about Steve Bartman, for anyone who might be interested in watching. There's a story on their website right now about the guy who sat next to him, and his experiences with the situation. It's a good read.
Word in the Twitterverse is that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are skipping Jered Weaver's last start tomorrow, thus clinching the AL Triple Crown for one Justin Verlander. The first time since 1924 there have been dual Pitching Triple Crowns, with Clayton Kershaw winning it in the NL. Unfortunately the last month for the Tigers probably works against Verlander for the MVP race. The Tigers were winning every which way with Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez providing a ton of support. Voters probably will (and should) take this to mean that JV is not the most valuable player to his team like he was through August. Also I wouldn't be surprised if voters hold it against him that he didn't win his 25th game. I don't know who else would get the MVP though. There doesn't seem to be a clear front runner. I'm going still hold on hope that JV will win it.
Watching 3 games, listening to one. What an amazing night for baseball. Sox/O's a one run game in the 7th. Braves/Phils in extras. Tigers win it with a late homer from Jhonny. Rays coming back from 7 run deficit. I can hardly keep it all straight. Go Angels! give that home field to the Tigers. Go Sox! Go Rays! (Or go O's! Go Yanks!) Give us that game 163 and go to Detroit tired. Go Braves! Give us another 163 for good fun! (assuming Cards hold on) Go D'backs! because Gibby and Tram are my boys. So much to keep an eye on. Love it. Edit: Damn it. Rangers just took a 2 run lead in the 9th...
Damn it. Meanwhile, the excitement just keeps coming elsewhere. Rays with a tying HR in the bottom of the ninth.
Absolutely loving this right now. It feels weird rooting against the Yankees, but oh well. Big picture here.
Holy shit my head is exploding tonight. TB almost losing it in the top of 12. Got a sweet play at third for the first out. Now Papelbon blowing the save. Possibly going to extras here. 3/4 'wildcard games' going to extra innings? Amazing night. IHOLY SHIT as I'm typing this Baltimore wins it. Awesome. Now I have to change my rooting interest in the NYY/TB game. If tonight ends with no game 163's tomorrow I'm going to be one sad dude. This is easily a top 5 baseball night in my life. This is so fun.
The last month of Red Sox baseball was the worst sports performance I've ever seen. Worse than the 0-16 Lions, because at least the Lions had the excuse that they had no talent and play in a city that could be gentrified by fire.
Wow that's good timing for ESPN's switchover. Anyway, hell of a night. Hell of a few historic collapses. Fun, fun. Kinda pissed there's no 163's. Kinda pissed no home field for Tigers. See ya Friday in NY.
