Indeed. You guys sure a bunch of chicken littles. If not for a last second Eli Manning touchdown, the Patriots would have the best record in the AFC, and third best overall. I think they have 50% or better chances against anyone besides Green Bay and Pittsburgh, and even then, far stranger things have happened They aren't 2007-good, but neither is anyone else (except perhaps GB).
It's not that they've lost the ability to draft, they aren't developing the talent they do draft. I can't find the article, but out of all those drafts the Patriots botched (by their standards), a huge percentage of those players are still contributing in the league. The past few drafts they've drafted some legit impact players. Gronk, Hernandez, McCourty in particular are all studs.
Before I get off the pats love boat I just want to say you can call Welker whatever kind of receiver you want, but the guy has 1,000 yards in nine games and is second in catches for 20+. The pats finally had a great draft a couple years ago, and they will need to continue that if they want to stay competitive considering how poorly they've done in previous seasons. Looks like Vick and Maclin are out for the game against the giants. This team might struggle just to not have double digit losses. I know most of us weren't expecting them to win the super bowl because their line backing core is weak and Vick wasn't going to repeat his mvp like season. That being said, this has to be one of the most disappointing teams of all time. They have the talent to at least make the playoffs.
It makes you wonder if Andy Reid's head will ever be on the chopping block. If not for this, then for what? The Eagles are for sure drafting a QB this offseason, right? Maybe Philly will let Reid try with one more QB. It's been nice having a 49ers bandwagon again. I felt like I was the only fan left standing, in Vegas anyways, for a while. I think the Niners are very good, but I feel in store for a playoff let down. I just dont think the secondary is good enough for the elite teams. I'm not saying the Niners will fold, I just think they are a couple key players away from going the distance. Flashes of greatness though, for now.
Yup, the secondary is definitely going to be the downfall of the 49ers. It will have nothing to do with Alex Smith being Alex Smith again, eventually.
I think Andy Reid will be the Eagles' coach for a long time. He has one of the best records in football, is well-liked by his players and the front office and the only strike against him is that he hasn't won a Super Bowl. Remember how long Cowher was the Steeler's coach before he won the big one? 14 years. This season has been a disappointment, but I don't think firing Reid is on the table and if it is, it would be very stupid. I still don't understand why people are predicting the downfall of New England, when they are leading their division, and have a pretty comfortable schedule to finish the season. They have lost games by 3, 4, and 8 points respectively. It's not like they have been utterly dominated by the teams that beat them, but they don't look like the New York Yankees of football, either. I would be surprised if they didn't finish with at least 10 wins and a comfortable spot to open the playoffs. As far as Tebow goes, you have to give credit to a coaching staff that puts him in a position to win and devises a strategy that works to his strengths. I can't imagine asking an offensive coordinator to come up with a game plan that includes making 2 completions and still plan on winning. In my humble opinion, he technically sucks at the game, but he putting up W's when Cam Newton is not.
Arian Foster not only wears a red plaid suit on CBS, the first thing he talks about when they ask him about his time in New York is Occupy Wall Street. They couldn't cut him off fast enough "Hey these guys haven't turned you off to a career of broadcasting eh?" Wow. I've heard about Arian Foster being interesting, but that's some shit.
Jay Cutler is making some crazy passes right now, just the angles and his position. Roy Williams is actually having an impact on a game in who knows how long. Johnny Knox is killing it out there catching deep balls. Definitely took the morale out of the Charges with that last TD pass to Knox.
I liked how Cutler took a knee to the back of the head, so much so that he got up and he was shaking his head around...so then he proceeds to make 2 absolutely fantastic throws in Knox in the next couple plays and dives headfirst into the end zone. I don't care what people say, dude is a tough motherfucker. Forte had a so-so game, but Cutler still made it happen.
Aaannnndddd now his season appears to be over with a broken thumb. Really sucks, he was playing well.
Caleb Hanie is going to play well. I've watched him in the preseason. He almost won the playoffs last year. I've been saying it for years, Caleb Hanie is the truth. Remember the last time a QB with the number 12 came in to cover for an injured veteran starter?
Hanie blows. He threw two picks in that playoff game, one that ended the game and the other was a pick 6. Hearing Chicago call for him to start afterwards was one of that franchise's most embarrassing moments. This news is very damaging to the bears' season, but their schedule is really forgiving. I can see them still making the post season if their defense can step up to the plate. Thankfully they still have Forte. I can't wait for Thanksgiving football. We have two great games to look forward to, and while I've cheered for the lions to turn it around I hope they get stomped so their fans can be humbled.
Hanie isn't going to blow, he'll be good enough to get them into the playoffs. He gets a full week of practice to get it worked out. They have Forte. They'll be fine.
Yeah, I think they will still make the playoffs. To be fair, we haven't seen that much of Hanie yet, but I wasn't as encouraged by his showing as others. To win 3 out of these 6 all he needs to do is pass well enough to keep defenses honest and not turn the ball over. He's getting put in a tough spot, but they don't need to ask him to do all that much. Hopefully Martz can control his urges to throw it 50 times a game. I was talking about the good games, which didn't include Miami/Dallas in my opinion. It will be better than it looked 3 weeks ago though, since Miami is finally playing competent football. It's so weird that they have a positive point differential already after starting 0-7. For shits and giggles I'll throw out my turkey day predictions. Green Bay 38 Detroit 28 There's going to be a lot of points in this one. Dallas 24 Miami 14 The dolphins are playing better, but that offense is going recede. Baltimore 20 San Francisco 17 Really hard to call. If you like good defensive games this will be awesome. Probably the two best defenses in the league right now.
