Funny how the Bears had "no interest" in McNabb before Hanie shit the field on Sunday. Now they are talking to his agents this morning. And Cutler is not coming back. Especially with Forte out.
Anyone else sick of the ass hattery going on in the league this year? Fuck, the Lions seem to be the worst, too. The game last night - WTF? Shoving a ref? Punching a player right in front of the ref? Tossing a ball at the opposite team? This isn't football, this is being a prick - on top of the stomping incident, of course. These coaches need to start benching and cutting players that give away yards because of stupidity. Even the end zone celebrations need to stop. No, I don't agree that end zone celebrations should be as quickly penalized. Frankly, I don't care if they want to do some stupid dance. But it's against the rules, so they need to cut it the fuck out.
I wish Goodell would treat onfield bullshit as tough as he treats the off-field bullshit. I am sick of seeing 30 yard penalties for bullshit pass interference calls or 15yd penalties because you grazed a QB's vagina, but then Suh only gets 2 games for the same shit he was suspended for previously? He should be done for the rest of the year. And start fining these assholes some real money. Every fine should be 6 figures minimum.
You're right that he hasn't been suspended before, but I think it's a little disingenuous to suggest that his past conduct doesn't at least loosely fall under the category of "the same shit." He's set a league record for the number of personal fouls and some of them have been pretty flagrant. The hit against Dalton comes to mind. Also, it says something when your fellow players vote you the dirtiest player in the league.
I was strictly talking about stomping people, which I think goes way beyond what he had done previously. That's why I said the same old shit part. I can no longer deny that he's a dirty player, but his reputation before this year was largely unwarranted. Unfortunately, he has done nothing but give credence to that reputation this season. His plays on Cutler and Barber last season should not have been penalties, therefore should not have led to the reputation.
I'm ok with a 6 figure penalty in incidents like Suh's stomping, but every fine? I think we're so used to hearing about salaries that players like Peyton Manning and Darelle Revis get that we forget a lot of guys in the league make 500k or less. It's pretty easy to accidentally register 2-3 hits a seasons that are considered fine worthy. If you make all of those 6 figure fines you're starting to put a huge dent in salaries, and it's only going to fuck over the lesser names, not the guys with 50 million dollar contracts with endorsements on top of it. Also, I think a lot of fines people are getting resulted from clean hits, but that's just me. Personally I don't put much blame on Schwartz for his players' conduct. He called out Suh after the stomp and said it was inexcusable for players to lose their temper like that on the field. A coach can offer guidance and make better football players, but he can't exercise complete control or responsibility for their actions. If he lets all this slide without punishing his players and it continues to be a problem he'll deserve the criticism. This has only recently become a team problem rather than just a couple of players, so I'll reserve judgement.
Completely agree with this. Each player has to be responsible for his own actions, but the coach needs to set the framework around what is acceptable, and what happens when you go outside that. I don't blame Schwartz personally for his players acting like cockbags, but if he doesn't take action on it, then he is enabling them to continue and that becomes his fault.
Is this a common perception of Schwartz? Honestly, listening to Detroit sports radio and lots of Schwartz interviews, I don't know where this statement came from.
Exactly. If you don't yank them off the field and sit them down and make it clear WHY you are sitting them, the onus begins to shift to you. And the worst part about Suh's stomping incident was his bullshit lameass excuse that he was falling down and just trying to keep his balance. He just met with Goodell, what about a month ago? How much more clear does it need to be made what is acceptable and what is not? He's had enough chances. Suh's a piece of shit and he should be flushed with all the other turds.
You mean other than him chasing down Harbaugh after the postgame handshake incident? And I guess since Suh has never actually purposefully stomped a player before, he should start with a clean slate.
Because when it comes to objectivity, I'm going to the local radio stations and the man himself. Pretty much every time I've seen Schwartz on the field, he's yelling or otherwise ragefacing en route to another Detroit meltdown. There's being intense, then there's Schwartz looking like he's trying to push a bowling ball out of his ass.
Holy shit what a great Sunday of games. I don't know what Tebow is doing but he's doing it all right. Why the fuck didn't he (they let?) throw before yesterday? None of that matters, none of the hype or hate the Broncos are first in their division. Whoa. Now on to the Packers and Giants. I was nervous going in to this one moreso than I've been yet, even the Lions on Turkey Day. Turns out I had good reason to be nervous. With the absolutely shitty SHITTY defense, the o-line breaking down (he had to have been hit at least 10-12 times) and Crosby...CROSBY WTF? If they had lost that game, it would have been by that FG. I would also like to give big props to the Cowboys. Oh you rascals or maybe I should say rascal. Nice time out call. Way to ice your own kicker. Brilliant.
Why do I get the feeling whenever I see a shot of Elway doing that pained golfclap thing he does that he is just burning up inside. I bet he figured "You know what dumbass Bronco fans. You want Tebow? I will give you Tebow. And then we will suck and get a high draft pick and I will bring in a 'real QB' and then you will all have to kiss my ass again". And now he's screwed. They just might win the division. Tebow gets the ball where it needs to be. By running or passing or whatever it takes. He wants to win.
But yet again, he hasn't beaten a defense in the top half of the NFL. He hit a "groove" in the second half...but it was against one of the 3 worst D's in the league and while he's getting credit, it was again that defense that saved the day. Chicago next week will be by FAR the best D he's played against, but it won't be an accurate game cause I doubt the Bears will be able to score 10 without Forte and with Hanie against a much improved Denver D.

Not what I'd call a hot headed dipshit. I've never thought that about any coach because he was yelling. That's their job. Plus, stadiums are loud as shit, you have to yell. And I am not, nor have I ever, claimed to be unbias
The Lions have also been near the top of the NFL in penalties in his tenure, and have a disproportionate amount of Personal Fouls. The team seems to have at a minimum a slight discipline problem. I did really like Dominic Raiola loudly getting in Titus Young's face after his bullshit. I'm not entirely sure we're acting like a 2 game suspension in the midst of the playoff hunt is a slap on the wrist. Multi-game suspensions for in game conduct are fairly rare. Albert Haynesworth is the only player in NFL history to get a longer one. And for what it's worth, I'm not sure how much worse Suh is than, say, Rodney Harrison, Hines Ward, or Cortland Finnegan. This incident was more egregious, but they all did it for longer. And many of his prior issues amount to be penalized for hitting too hard. Or what about (for example) Vince Wilfork, who tried to poke out the eyes of an opponent? Suh is dirty, but it's not clear to me that he's as far outside of NFL norms as he's made out to be.
