Call me a pessimist but we limped into the play offs again this year like a few years ago but I don't have any hopes for them at all. The Bengals have a whole lot of young talent for sure but the same old shit burgers running the joint. I think it is a mix of people hating Mike Brown and the high ticket prices in this tough economy. I had three or four friends all cancel their season tickets last year after they brought Marvin Lewis back after a 4-12 season.
The last two times they went to the playoffs they won the division. No limping required. Fuck, the last time they went they swept the division.
Yeah they didn't back in when they swept the devision but they fucking blew the last few games including back to back losses to the Jets that ended our playoffs right quick, which is what I meant when I say limped in. We backed in this year and honestly don't trust coaching/management enough to have them ready to win a playoff game. With two playoff appearances in 20 years, both losses, my glass is half empty even with play off hopes.
The refs/rules didn't cost the Lions the game, but it didn't help. Case in point, yesterday when Titus Young's TD-called-non-TD was not able to be reviewed because they didn't have any left. Those 4 points would have made a difference. That's just one of the many things the refs blew yesterday. (Logan's "fumble", Packs "not" muffed punt) Like I said though, the refs didn't cause Young to lose control on his diving catch, or Johnson to drop a wide open TD ball, or whatever DB it was to drop an easy pick that would've sealed the game or the defense to give up a million yards/points or any of the other shit that they fucked up.
Jared Allen misses out on the single season sack record because he isn't buddy buddy with a QB. Seriously though, 3.5 sacks in yesterday's game; a game that didn't even mean anything. Dude is a beast. --- Steelers at Broncos this weekend. I am pumped.
So why is this? Is there a general pessimism that is pervasive within the fan base? Is the stadium out of the way/not very enjoyable? Yeah, they had a 15 year playoff drought, but they made the playoffs just two years ago and again in 2005, and they've generall hovered around .500 for the past decade or so.
Not to threadjack, but the Colts just fired Bill Polian and his son Chris, the teams President and GM respectively. Wonder if Caldwell's going to get axed as well.
If they fire Polian, but keep Caldwell, then they deserve to go 2-14 again next year. As for firings that should happen, Jerry Angelo finally gets the axe. I can hear Chicagoans cheering all the way from here.
I just got back from New Orlean's and I'm worried that Chicago will react to this news like Mardi Gras...I'll keep you guys posted. Oh and...the shittiest show on grass in cold weather is out also.
This has been my question for a very long time. I keep thinking he's gonna get all pissy about something, his neck veins will pop out, then his head will come off and fly around like a deflating balloon. I can still dream. Detroit I don't know what happened to them at the end of the season. You know it's bad when a second string QB takes you for 6 TD's.
Zero running game + 1 WR + 1 TE who both can easily be double covered = tired defense who gives up 6 TD's to second string QB. Norv keeps his job because its obvious when he has his players he wins games. They got rocked by injuries. And who the fuck else is out there for a team that hovers around the playoffs most of the time? Cowher and Gruden aren't coming back anytime soon or at all.
Cowher and Gruden aren't interested, but with Fisher taking interviews I think there's better options than Turner. Apparently Fisher wants a stable QB more than anything. San Diego clearly has that with Rivers, and considering they are better built to win now than other teams with openings they'd have a great chance of getting him. Other than that there's always the miscellaneous college coaches and coordinators looking for promotions. I'm surprised Turner hasn't been fired because of the circumstances surrounding the last time San Diego fired a head coach. Do you guys remember Schottenheimer getting canned after a 14-2 season and only losing by 3 in the playoffs? As for other coaches who were on the hot seat, but didn't get canned I'm glad it didn't happen to Lovie Smith. It wasn't his fault there was zero depth behind Cutler and losing Forte on top of that just killed them. Plus, some of the ways they lost was shit you just can't coach like against Denver. As for Reid I can at least understand it since he's had as much success as a coach can without actually winning the super bowl. Smith has proven he can lead a team to success too. With the way fans are talking you would think the saints already won the NFC. They finished the season very strong, but GB gets to play at home and did already beat them this year. I'm slightly more concerned about them than I am the niners. Still, I don't see how so many people are suddenly proclaiming them clear favorites. The packers chances of winning the super bowl are probably less than 50/50 because of the teams they'll have to beat, not just the saints.
I heard on the radio this morning that Jeff Fisher was pretty much a lock to take over St. Louis next year. It makes sense. His agent's son is the COO of the Rams. He's got a young QB with a bright future and the pieces are definitely in place for playoff runs in a year or two, depending on how their draft picks/free agents work out. If I were a Chargers fan I'd be burning an effigy of AJ Smith in front of San Diego's front office. All he's done is run talented players out of the franchise, hire coaches that can't win in the playoffs and draft shitty players. Sorry Chargers fans. At least you get to see Dan Fouts 2.0. lolwut? I haven't heard that from anybody. At all. Sure, Brees is a good story and all, but Green Bay does what New Orleans does but better. I'd be more worried about San Francisco's defense than New Orleans' offense if I were a Green Bay fan. Anybody that isn't completely retarded knows that the road to the Super Bowl runs through Green Bay.
Jets rookie third string quarterback who spent all season on IR thinks it is a great idea to talk to ESPN about his teammates' "corrupt mindsets." I bet he'll have a really fun training camp next year.
Jeez, the Saints really hung it on Detroit next year. The O-line looks awesome. Combine a quarterback who's in top form like Brees is right now, with an offensive line who will give him time on every single down, and everyone should be a little scared...
Green Bay did the same thing with their back ups. The lions defense fell apart at the end of the year. Really? I've been hearing it a lot from the media and various people I talk to. A few weeks ago I read an article about how the packers were the 'worst' 13-0 team ever. It kind of reminded of 2006 when the bears clearly played a better season, but everyone kept hyping the saints as the nfc favorite. I think once their favorite team is out, a lot of the country has a crush on New Orleans.
Denver is about to get smoked. Pitt's offense against Denver's defense is a good match up. Pitt's defense against Denver's offense is going to be a 3 hour lesson in ass whooping.
