Well they're not going to run it every play, but I can see goal line 25% of the time, and maybe 2-3 plays a game unless they down by high teens in the 4th. Also, Rex Ryan definitely will swear less with the Son of the Son of God sitting in his locke room. Fuck they sure as shit blew that Hard Knocks way too early on the Jets. The problem is, there IS a chance he can start in New York. Sanchez is too shaky, his best WR hates him. In Patriots News The Lawfirm signed a 3 year deal with the Bengals, do we really feel that comfortable with Jevan Ridley, Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen here?
I think it was stupid to let BJGE go. Yes, we're all aware that the Patriots are not a running team. In my opinion, though, all the more reason to have a bullet-proof running back who isn't flashy, doesn't break off 30 yard runs, but is a solid, decent back who doesn't fumble.
Jets-Broncos agreed to Tim Tebow trade before Denver asked NY to pay back portion of bonuses and salary already paid to Tebow. No deal yet. I'm telling you, Elway is a sleazy used car dealer of a GM. I like Manning, but I almost with something would happen in the 1st game so the Broncos whole season is screwed and they're out $12million.
Considering the deal might not go through at this point, I'll keep it short. I like the fact that it would give the Jets the ability to get back to the wildcat a little bit. Without Brad Smith last year, they looked terrible when they tried to break out that formation. I like the fact that Sanchez now has a (semi-)competent backup that at least brings the plausibility that he could be replaced. He was criticized for being lazy and getting too comfortable knowing he couldn't ever get pulled. He's responded to motivation like that in the past, so hopefully he will again this season. I think they'd be better served keeping those picks and working on finding O-linemen that can actually block and a halfway decent pass-rusher, but Tebow does bring a lot of upside as long he never suits up as the starting quarterback. And hell, I think he'd make a better lineman than Wayne Hunter. Maybe that's the plan all along. The Jets circus keeps getting weirder and weirder...
Jets announce the trade on Twitter and then realized the verbiage of the contract required a payment of $5.06million back to the Broncos. Jets don't want to pay. Broncos say trade is done and it's the Jets fault for lack of due diligence. (Sorry to Elway...not his doing!) Could.get.ugly.
Yep, the Bills sound like they want to be sack-happy next year. Williams and Anderson. I see good things for them next year - might have to replace my Lee Evans jersey even.
I'm just happy ESPN didn't fuck up any headlines this time. I was totally expecting a "NFL Floods The Saints with Penalties."
So I guess it's official now. The Jets agree to pay half of the $5 million they would have owed Denver. If Peyton gets hurt within the first few weeks, do the Jets send him back to Denver for 3 or 4 draft picks?
Denver will never take him back. Elway never, ever wanted him in the first place, and the ONLY way he could rid himself of Tebow was by signing someone where there would be no controversy, and he would unquestionably be better than Tebow. He got that gift wrapped in Peyton Manning. Even if Peyton's neck explodes in game 4, there is no way Elway brings that circus back to town. The real question is how will that circus affect Sanchez and the Jets. They're already a magnet for the media by being in New York and having Rex Ryan as a coach. There is NO doubt that Sanchez needs someone to push him. He plays better when there is a chance he can be benched. The problems will arise the first time that Sanchez has a shitty game, and rest assured, it WILL happen sooner than later. The media, the fans, and everyone will be screaming for Tebow, and that controversy will not go away all season. As for the Saints, I know which team I won't be drafting players from this year for fantasy. Sean Peyton's offense was a big part of their success, and I think they're going to regress in a big, bad way this year. Their defenses haven't been good in a couple of years, and that high-powered offense was what was keeping them afloat. They lost an anchor on their offensive line, they've thoroughly pissed off their franchise QB, lost one of their WRs to the Chargers, and then they lost their play-caller and head coach. They still have enough to do okay, but if they finish with a record better than 9-7, I'll be shocked, and that record won't be good enough for a wild card spot. The thing that is getting lost in all this is that the Dolphins have, at some point, turned into a league wide joke. No one wants to play for them.
I love that perception. Even from Dolphin fans. Based on what? What a couple of ex players whom the team cut for good reasons have said? Manning? He didn't want to play for 31 other teams either. Or 11 of the 12 that pursued him. Flynn? Miami didnt want him that bad. Who knows him better than the OC he's had for his entire time in the league? Spoke volumes they didn't go after him at all costs! Because they signed Garrard? To a non-guaranteed contract? For 1 season? You have to have at least 2 qb's in this league, Miami only had 1. Because they traded Marshall? He dropped as many as he caught. Not worth the headaches in the locker room or off the field. They resigned Paul Soliai at a lower price than anybody expected. He walked away from more money to stay in Miami. Because Ireland asked Dez Bryant if his mom was a hooker? Not a great move, but it's not like it was on a scripted list of questions. "What's your favorite color? What was your best subject in school? Is your Mom a whore?" If you told me you grew up on a farm and I asked if your Dad was a farmer, wouldn't that be a logical question? They asked what his parents did. Bryant told them his dad was a drug dealer and a pimp. They asked what his mother did. He said "She worked for my father". OK. As what? Social Secretary? Ireland is NOT a people person, but he is a decent scout. He was hired as a fill-in by Parcells because of his scouting experience. He probably should not be a GM and I am not sure why he wasn't fired with Sparano, but it's not all his fault the Dolphins have lost. It's infinitely more Parcells fault and his faulty, outdated model for team building. Remember, Parcells hasn't won shit without Bellicheck and now I think people recognize where the talent in that partnership truly lied. You do not build a team through FA. Who has GB signed this offseason? What about the NYG? You fill holes with value. You cannot panic and over pay. The process is 1/3 done. FA....draft...roster cuts. You cannot judge a team until Week 1 of the season. I thought they would do decent last season and they lost the first 7 games. They picked it up at the end and could have easily won 10 games. People thought GB was a shoein to win the SB. Then it was the Patriots. You never know. Somebody called in on the radio this morning and said somebody should anonymously report to the NFL that the Dolphins have had a county system in place for 4 years and that they should force the owner to sell the team and fire everybody in the front office. Hmmm. And yes...it is too late to have my season ticket $ refunded. I checked.
I'm sure Miami will figure something out. Maybe David Garrard comes out with a fire his old coach couldn't get out of him. Since D26 is too busy with a very pregnant wife. I'll post this for him. Chicago Bears sign Michael Bush 14m, 7guar.
So...are the Patriots really happy w/ trotting out Ridley and Woodhead every week? Consider me less than enthused. I mean, I know Belichick always mixes and changes running backs at the drop of a hat, but one is extremely specialized, and the other is unproven. Blech. I guess Jacobs and Benson are out there. I can't see the Patriots being the top bidder for Jacobs. Benson seems possible.
Branch staying on for 1 year deal. Brady is restructuring contract to create cap room for "big move." They got 5 WRs, not sure about 85 staying on. Also, Michael Bush's deal is pretty light, it would have been nice for the Patriots to get that. Almost a 1,000 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. Would have been nice.
What do they need with a RB? Just let Brady throw it 65x a game. They can still draft a rb or pick one up that is about to be cut, like Marion Barber.
I want the Patriots to have an all-start running back so there is a balanced offense. It'd be nice to have a guy coming up to his peak or on it, not falling off it or washed up.
Balance is overrated. Winning is all that matters. If you do want balance, why not trying to play a little defense next year?
Fuck you, they're working on the defense. Balance does matter. There are more QB picks than there are RB fumbles. We let a guy that didn't fumble once in like 500 carries walk out the door. For all the PA plays the Patriots have, the effectiveness needs to be increased with a RB that can hurt you. I'm not asking for some razzle dazzle, but a guy that can get over 80+ yards a game averaging over 4 YPG would be nice. That's all I'm asking for. I love all the controversy this off-season. It is great. I wish this would go on all summer so I wouldn't have to turn off ESPN every 5 minutes when they bring up baseball. Drew Stanton wants outbecause he was promised the number 2 job. Matt Forte unhappy in Chicagothat they brought in Michael Bush (ahem, leverage) because he's worried they won't pay him next year, especially after his injury.
You know Bill thinks they could win with 8 men on the field. His ego is bigger than Greg Oden's schlong (see what I did there?) Just like their draft every year. He spends the whole time collecting more pics in the next draft. Eventually, you gotta collect on those for them to be any good! I love all the fakes on Twitter that make guys like Peter King and Chris Mortensen jump. The local beat writer down here just got busted for posting that the Fins were shopping Reggie Bush. Sad thing is, it could be true. This year's draft is going to be chock full of moves. I can't wait. I hate the new 3 night format. 2 was bad enough.
