How do you suspend a GM for 8 games? Can he still run the draft?

    $500k plus (2) 2nd rd picks.

    Dayum.

    4th and a 6th for Tebow and a 7th.

How is Tebow going to work with Ryan? Forget all the onfield issues.

I think they use him to run the Wildcat. Sancheez isnt lighting the world on fire.

Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked.

This offseason has been nuts. The Redskins trading three first rounders for a rookie QB, Manning getting cut (along with half the rest of the team), the Bills coughing up the largest defensive contract ever for Williams, the Saints losing half their staff, and Tebow is going to be a Jet.

I'm actually incredibly happy to see the NFL take such a hardline stance against this. The league pretty much did nothing about the statement by Suggs several years ago, but I imagine that's because it wasn't being as scrutinized over player safety. He was sent a letter saying no more talk about bounties.

I hear Payton is a decent, likable guy, but even if he wasn't responsible, I appreciate the League making a statement that you're responsible for what happens on your team. Usually leagues hand down punishments with almost no teeth, but a full season. Damn.

Tebow to NYJ? It's a good break for him. He's with a decent team, yet would still be able to compete for the starting QB job probably later in the year if (ahem, when) Sanchez flounders a bit. I'm kind of disappointed because we're going to get just as much annoying media coverage (if not more) as last year. Had he gone to some place like Jacksonville I think his time on air would have eventually waned. Also, kudos to Elway here. It was obviously a buyers' market when it came to shopping Tebow and a 4th and 6th round pick isn't too bad.

There's no clear indication either way of starting or sitting being the right way to be.

    Manning started, Brady sat.
    Big Ben started, Rogers sat.
Jamarcus Russell started, Matt Leinart sat.

There's no real pattern to be draw re: how soon someone should start and long-term success. Sure, there are busts, but there are plenty of Pro Bowlers. Especially in you look at guys who weren't Day 1 starters, but were by the end of the year (a similar situation to Gabbert, Ponder, Locker).

I guess the Jets got Tebow almost for free, but wow, like they didn't already have enough PR and team morale issues. Sanchez must be shitting himself.

People who follow the Texans: why was DeMeco Ryans so cheap?

    More interesting facts:

Saint's GM's suspension does not being until Game 1 of the regular season so he can run the draft.

Payton's suspension begins April 1. No draft input.

Payton moved his entire family from NO to Dallas a couple weeks ago.

    Hmmm....

This was going to be the only time, ever, The Saints could have gone the the Superbowl when it was in New Orleans. Long shot, to be sure, but still a theoretical possibility.

BUT, NOOOOOOOO, they had to go and fuck the whole thing up for everyone. Nice going, suckholes. You pissed off Brees, you lost your coach for a year, and lost some draft picks. Someone needs to write a book on how not to run a football team and put this bunch of jacklegs as Exhibit A.

Hey, dipshits, when you are doing something severely against the rules try to do it in a manner that it doesn't create 18,000 pages of incriminating documents. Jesus Christ, how stupid can you be?

There aren't enough dirty words in English to describe how pissed off I am right now. I need to learn Arabic so I can curse The Saints properly.

As a Vikings fan, I'd take a year suspension for the coach, an 8 game suspension for the GM, and the loss of two 2nd round picks for a title here.

    Cheating fucks.

BREAKING: Tim Tebow "super excited" to start praying for "the Godless heathens of New York City."

MoreCowbell, you're right about the starting/sitting of QBs. Tebow is definitely a sitter.

Noland, can you explain to me what a jackleg is?

Mark Sanchez's career in New York is over. The Jets have obviously given him hush money with his last contract, but as soon as he fucks up under pressure, loses a lead, TEBOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! will be right there behind him. It was bad enough his confidence was shot to shit at the end of the season, then the Jets were interested in Manning, and now Tebow is breathing down his neck. (I hate Mark Sanchez, I know I've never mentioned it before.)

Tebow is going not to cause any problems for the Jets, its fucking Tebow. As hard and gangster as all those guys want to be, they're religious. You don't mess with Football Jesus. Rex Ryan won't have to cry about not knowing the pulse of his team, the pulse will be Tebow, and it will be good.

Also, I don't think "Buyer's" Market applies to this trade. Elway would have traded Tebow for a hotdog and the Jet's third water boy.

Google it. Just like you did "Tebow + hot dog".

I see Sparano using Tebow as a situational threat unless Sancheez totally shits the bed.

How can Brees or Saints fans bitch about the punishment?

They told you to stop doing something illegal and you didn't.

I'm not bitching about the punishment. We deserved it. Every bit of it. I'm just screaming out loud that The Saints had a perfect opportunity to create something great and long lasting and poisoned it for no good reason.

They must have remembered they were from New Orleans and realized they had to do something corrupt, obvious, and stupid.

Gator, you forget that the Jets are already partial to the Wildcat. And the Wildcat works 100% better when passes can be thrown out of it.

And Sanchez will undoubtedly shit the bed. Also, I give it 2-3 weeks before Rex fucks up a press conference accidentally throwing Sanchez under the Tebowmania bus.

No. As Parker likes to say, you "took it like a man".

    Here is Brees' Twitter reaction:

I am speechless. Sean Payton is a great man, coach, and mentor. The best there is. I need to hear an explanation for this punishment

I loved the Wildcat, but think the Dolphins gave up on it and only used a portion of it.

Can you just see Ryan in a Team Meeting dropping F-bombs left and right and Tebow sweating like a whore in church?

I wonder if Elway traded Timmy to the Jets instead of Jacksonville because he knows he won't be a starter in New York?

I think Elway doesn't want to see him succeed. And by trading Timmy to New York he just made sure the fans in Denver won't turn on him, because he won't get a chance to prove himself.

    Interesting.

I think Elway's ego couldn't handle any QB competing with his memory.

Peyton won't because, after all, Elway was the reason Manning chose the Broncos after all.

    Oh Snap...

Filed to ESPN (1): Denver and Jets have encountered hangup in language in Tim Tebow's contract that could nullify trade.
