You can't be serious. You're comparing him to Vick? Michael fucking Vick? If you asked ANY coach which QB they would take there'd be no discussion whatsoever. So let's look at Rodgers. He's been great for four years now. While he hasn't played long enough for this to hold full meaning the guy has the highest passer rating of any QB ever. The only year his passer rating was below 100 was his first where he threw 4000+ yards and had a 28/13 td/int ratio. How many QBs do that their first season, even if they got to sit for awhile before starting? As for this season, he's having a very good year, but we're only five games in, and it's absurd to expect him to match last year. I'm guessing you didn't think that post through very well. As for Eli, I don't consider him elite. He's above average, but that's about as far as I'm willing to go. He shouldn't go to the hall of fame, and he gets way too much credit for his team's super bowl runs. I think holding the best offense of all time to 14 points is way more impressive than scoring 17, (on a miracle catch I might add) but hey, that's just me. For the record, I totally agree Cutler was justified in missing the second half of that game. There's no point in going in if you're too hurt to get the job done, but come on guys, calling someone KIMaster is crossing the line. That shit is just mean.
I largely agree with both these points, although I think you oversell both. Rogers has been great for 3 years, and pretty good for a fourth. He has been, one average, roughly the third best QB in any given year over that span. From a passing perspective, there was no year where Atlanta Vick was anywhere close to any year by Rodgers. The deal with Vick wasn't a short period of brilliance: it's that he was good in a way that was largely unprecedented and exciting. Vick's style of play was sexy. I don't think many people in 2002 were saying "Well, this guy is better than Peyton Manning." People thought he showed tantalizing potential, but no one thought he was the game's best QB. I mostly included Eli just to avoid being argumentative, since consensus seems to be that a second Super Bowl granted him entry into the club. I think Eli gets far too much credit for short periods of brilliance that happen at convenient times. People forget all the times he throws interceptions in bunches, and that he's been generally blessed with some good receivers, a typically strong rushing game, and a capable and often explosive defense. His career QB Rating is sandwiched between Jason Campbell and Steve McNair. He's never been in the top 5 by QB Rating, and last year was the first time he cracked the top 10. I keep using QB Rating as a metric, but I have a certain degree of doubt about its historical usefulness. It's good for within-era comparisons, but it boggles the mind to think that Joe Flacco and Dante Culpepper have a better QB Rating than Johnny Unitas, John Elway, Roger Staubach, or 20 other Hall of Famers.
There's been a lot of talk about Cutler maybe being a pussy. As a Vikings fan, I only have to say one thing...
Which is why I love ESPN's new QB rating system. It's fucking brilliant. I'll look it up when I'm much less drunk...
I agree. Rogers has simply gone the extra step of earning the (deserved) respect of his peers. He's set a record or two, earned a ring, and successfully supplanted Farve as the Gunslinger in Green Bay, which at the time, were tremendous shoes to fill. Manning is great under pressure, as we have seen, and two rings does bring him some pretty good recognition, but he won't be considered the best Manning to play the game, nor will he be in the top five of this era (Brady, Brees, Manning, Rogers, Rothlisberger) without winning another ring. For me, the elite discussion revolves around the respect of your peers. It doesn't make the news when a rookie meets with Eli Manning or Phillip Rivers, but Nike damned near made an ad campaign out of Cam Newton meeting Tom Brady. The only active qb with the opportunity to seal the "elite" title for me is Rothlisberger, who simply needs to be more respectable off the field. He's won the rings, and he'll probably win some records as well, but the scandals have robbed him of a lot of respect. Over the course of a career, I feel that his reputation will improve, especially when Brady, Brees or Manning retires and his stats aren't compared to a trio of hall of famers.
I'm drunk, and this is one of the stupidest goddamned things I've ever read. Someone sober please tear this to pieces. I don't puke from drinking, but this might make me...
Elite is on the field play. I'm a Bulls fan, but I can for a fact say Michael Jordan was/is a raging asshole. His teammates were scared he'd eat them if they didn't play well. His HOF speech is when the secret got out and the world found out how much of an asshole he is. Same with Kobe Bryant we know he is a raging asshole and pretty sure Pau Gasol hates him. Are they not elite? I'm sober and that is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Ben Rothlisberger is not elite due to the fact he Trent Dilfered his first Superbowl. Everyone said their defense won that one inspite of their QB. The second SB was a win for him. Also, Aaron Rodgers isn't a Gunslinger. Gunslinger actually has the connotation of throwing some INTS/making really lucky plays. And yes ESPN's new Total QBR is was better than anything else, because as we've had this discussion last year, it factors in when yards were gained. Were they gained on 1 and 10 while the team was up by 50 points? Where they gained on 3rd and 15 when the team is down by 20? It factors in 1st down conversions, down and distance, and the score of the game to not give a QB a ton of yards due to garbage time plays when the defense is in dime. The whole explanation is pretty layered, but it takes when and what happened into fair account.
That about sums it up. I watched that whole game. I dont remember Cutler limping or wincing when he threw or showing anything was wrong with his knee at any time. He just never came out for the 2nd half. Didn't even try. Everybody in the room was trying to figure out what went wrong. He didnt even give it a shot after Hanie looked like a monkey fucking a football. I cant seem to remember...did Bosh sit out Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals or the 1st round of the playoffs? And Bosh is not the best player on his team. But that's OK. Im sure the Bears will be in 100 Conference Championships with Cutler as QB. He'll have so many chances to redeem himself. Just ask Dan Marino. Or Steven Strasburg. Sorry, Strasburg wanted to play but his team held him out. Cant compare that to Cuntler.
At this point the only thing worse would be allowing the Browns to get their first win of the season... Oh, you're a Bengals fan, aren't you? Good luck with the ginger kids...
Tannehill...I'm still undecided. Miami's shitty quarterback situation has been a constant for most of my life. I'm scared of change.
Hey look. My Vikings remembered who they were. But against the fuckin Redskins? Really? They're a whole different team when RG3 is on. Fuck me.
So I saw this on Twitter before it was deleted. In short, fuck Tom Brady. Seattle's defense has now contained Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Cam Newton and Tony Romo.
One of the roommates has a really annoying girlfriend who is a die hard Texans fan. Although I hate the Packers, it was awesome to watch her team lose. All season I've had to endure her dumb ass comments about how good the Texans are and how she'll buy tickets if they go to the Super Bowl. I'm not saying the Texans don't have a chance to go the Super Bowl but it's going to be damn nice to have at least one week where she doesn't think her shit don't stink.
It appears that Bill Simmons may not have entirely made an ass of himself. How a team can beat New England and Green Bay and also lose to Arizona (with ref help even!) and St Louis, I don't know. NFL, I don't get you sometimes.
Both make my head throb, so I'll ask the people. Which current divisional standings are more surprising? AFC East Jets 3-3 Patriots 3-3 Bills 3-3 Dolphins 3-3 NFC West Cardinals 4-2 Seahawks 4-2 49ers 4-2 Rams 3-3
Thats the fun of going with a rookie QB. Watching Wilson & Brady shake hands after the game was interesting. Wilson looked like a child next to Brady.
