Houston should only get half a win for this screw job. It was about as legitimate as Seattle over Green Bay.
Detroit is such a stupid football team. Their playcalling down the stretch sufficiently disgusted me that I thought they absolutely deserved to lose by the time Houston kicked the game-winner.
Thanks, I'm aware of that. I've, you know, watched one or two games. When you play the percentages, you go with established track records over speculation and guessing. Sitting Smith is not doing that, and is thus not the smart play, even if it works out. In other news, el-oh-el at Schwartz. You know the play is getting reviewed. If you could have suppressed your douchebag tendencies for just one moment, you would have won the game.
This is the dumbest fucking rule and penalty ever. So, they're going to review it but because you throw your flag while they're in the process, this is worthy of negating the review AND penalty? So now bad calls are amplified and allowed to stand because coaches didn't wait their turn? This is some Soviet Union overlord shit.
Pretty much my thoughts on the matter. The worst part about this is that up until now I've never seen that penalty called unless a coach tried to challenge when he was out of challenges or time outs. Literally every other time I've seen a coach try to challenge something that couldn't be challenged the officials would just tell the coach the play was unreviewable. That they just arbitrarily decided to penalize Detroit in this instance and under those circumstances seems like a deliberate "Fuck you!" to the Lions.
Is it just me or do the Cowboys miss more plays because Romo and the receiver weren't on the same page than any other team? Do they even hold practices?
The jets are so bad. I don't know if I can make it through the end of this shit fest. I hadn't thought about that at all until you mentioned it. I'm sure I've seen refs just hand the flag back a dozen times. Maybe all of those were just unreviewable and weren't being reviewed anyway? Thus, they weren't like this scoring play that is getting looked at automatically. Either way, pretty much the dumbest rule I've ever heard of in sports. Edit: RGIII better win rookie of the year if this trend continues. Rookie QBs just do not have the kind of year he's having. I actually can't think of a single rookie QB who's played as well as he has ever.
Down like 30, 4th and 1 on their own 40 something, and the Jets punt? How could this game get any worse for them? What a terrible team.
I've never liked the challenge system, but it's even more retarded than I would've ever thought. All scoring plays are reviewed* *Unless you challenge them.
Oh, were you aware of that? I was just curious, because you blatantly compared Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith back there. To Summarize our "arugment," "What do you mean the 49ers may catch shit for not putting in the backup if they lose! I didn't see the Packers catching shit for not putting in the backup when they lost in the playoffs!" "That is because the Packers QB is Aaron Rodgers, who is on a completely different level than Alex Smith. There is a world of difference between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers..." "Ugh, I know that! I've watched football before! Gawd!" Its like arguing with a 15 year old girl. I wasn't really speculating about whether they should have Smith or Kaepernick, I was simply saying that they're kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't at this point. If they lose in the playoffs with Smith, fans will bitch that they didn't switch to Kaepernick when he was hot. If they lose with Kaepernick, the fans will bitch that they should've stuck with Smith. And yes, RGIII should be running away with the rookie of the year award. I know some people will push for Andrew Luck, but the year RGIII is putting together is just insane. Lets just hope he doesn't have a Cam Newton-esque sophomore slump, because god damn is it fun watching RGIII play.
How is RG3 so good, and Washington still sucks? Seriously, they've only lost one game by more than a touchdown and that was to Pittsburgh (ok, Carolina won by 8). Is the offense not able to seal a deal, or is the defense awful, or what? The argument against running qb's is starting to make a lot of sense: if a qb with legs scrambles or runs for 6 yards, more than half the time they could throw it for 8. This was the main criticism of Vick, that he was more likely to take off up the field, instead of giving his receivers an extra half second to shake a defender or hit a check-down. Is RG3 suffering from the same breed of hubris? I ask because his stats are amazing, but his team loses, and I feel like that might be the difference between the 'Skins and Luck's Colts. I'm not saying that the Colts are much better, but they've put together a winning record, when they weren't exactly a fearsome team last year. Luck seems a more "pure" quarterback that will try to make a throw, and can't rely on a quick scramble.
It's largely the defense. Washington is top 5 in yap rushing and passing, and scores enough. The defense just lets up too many yards/points, and doesn't get off the field. Yes that happened. And was returned for a touchdown.
Alex Smith nearing elite status?? Are you fucking kidding me? It's easy as shit to get a 70% completion rating when most of your throws are under 5yds in the air. Not that it's an end all be all stat, but can you guess how many 300+ yard games Alex Smith has had his entire career? If you guessed 3, you'd be the fucking Rainman of football stats. 7 years as an NFL QB and you throw 3, 3 300+ yard games? Whoever thinks Alex Smith is "nearing elite status", you are out of your goddamn mind. Alex Smith is a carbon copy of Trent Dilfer. His main goal as a QB for San Fran is not to fuck up. Period.
