Patriots/Bellichick cocky? Noooooo. It was almost worth the $20 in my suicide pool to see them lose. Shoulda taken the Dolphins. Reg-gie. Reg-gie. I know its only been 2 weeks, but there are some teams that I sense are going to be as good (Patriots might go undefeated?, Lions, Saints, Chiefs) or as bad (Dolphins might not win a game?, Tampa, Seahawks) as the experts make them out to be.
I'd have to go with the Raiders as the worst team. Just about every team the 'experts' predicted to be terrible have been anything but. Actually, most teams have shown really good promise in what they are capable of. Of course, one injury can change all that, just ask last years Colts.
I am bummed about the Patriots loss, as Bill Barnwell put it, the Cardinals forgot to lose and the home winnings treak is broken. At the same time, I'm happy the undefeated pressure is off, and now wins are just steps to the Super Bowl. The other silver lining is that my dead/suicide/survival pool went from 60 to 28, with 27 people going down with the Patriots picks. 2 went down on Dallas, 1 on Washington, which I think was a pretty big wtf loss, and some jackass that thought he was cool picking Oakland. I'll give it to you Gator, I don't feel comfortable better with or against the Dolphins. They're like their mascot, very slippery, and it goes both ways. Also, the mother fucking Eagles. PETA needs to check in on Vick again. That motherfucker has to have a house full of lucky rabbits feet somewhere. No way a team has 9 turnovers between two games and win both of them. I didn't watch the game, but holy fuck. The Ravens should have boomraped them silly.
I watched the highlights when I got home and the look on the faces of Kraft and Belichick and Brady were priceless. Like "what? I thought the 3pts was automatic on 4th down in the the 4th quarter? We shouldnt have to get closer and actually make the FG! Throw the flag...throw the little red flag. DO OVER!" And the Dolphins arent as good as they looked yesterday or as bad as they looked in that 6minutes vs the Texans. And I dont give a shit what anybody says, and I like Schiano, but that play at the end of the Bucs/Giants game was bush league. If the Giants throw a TD, then Schiano is the first one to cry about running up the score. You had 3.9 quarters to win and you couldnt. You dont throw 3 balls to intentionally walk a guy and then hit him in the head with the 4th pitch. Now if Eli is shucking and jiving in the backfield to run clock, open season.
I'm curious if people would have felt the same way had Manning actually fumbled on that play and the game gone into overtime. If that had happened, I imagine the "you play to the whistle" crowd would be louder. I'm not sure about this. Looking at the roster tells me that Cleveland should be the worst, but they've only lost their two games by a combined margin of 8 points. Also, Weeden and Richardson were pretty great yesterday. Things one wouldn't expect to say: CJ Spiller's yards per carry is greater than the sum of Chris Johnson's, Darren McFadden's, Michael Turner's, and Arian Foster's.
I can only imagine what people would say if Eli faked the kneel and tossed it into the endzone for a TD. Or if manning would have been lost for the season because of a hit. Its one of those unwritten rules. Otherwise, why would you have a kneel down play? And Cleveland is the worst right now. Give them a year or 2 to get on track. Ive said Richardson was going to be a better pro than he was in college for 3 years. Unbelievable balance and power.
They have it because it minimizes the probability of a turnover. You want to avoid this. Similarly, just last year Troy University recovered a fumble from OSU on an almost identical rush-the-kneel-down play. While it's now an accepted end to a game, it originally exists because it's practical. It's a football play that offensive coaches call because it helps to win the game.
Ya know I thought the play calling would get a little better as the games go by, turns out I was WAY wrong. I'll say the same thing I did last week, after watching a full day of college ball and the next full of NFL ball, we'd be better off switching. I heard they had to pull one ref off of the NO game because they checked his Facebook out (thanks to a tip, DERP! Maybe you should check that basic shit out FIRST!) and discovered he was a fan of NO. This shit is going to go from bad to worse.
Technically, they are supposed to disclose such information. I read the news and I was like "And?" I get if he got in he might have swung the game a little but, the Saints are already fucking themselves. They were trying to present the story like he was gambling on the game. If it wasn't for the Patriots, I'd feel like this story would be 50% of ESPN right now. Simmons is right, you can't be all up a coaches ass, talking about how he is the greatest/smartest coach ever, then go "pffft, no big deal, we got this" when he's gone.
Yep, of course Manning would throw 2 picks in 2 possessions as I start him in my paid league. Looks like Hotlanta is ready to go.
There are about 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter and Atlanta is up 27-14. Let's assume they win. The Falcons, Texans, Chargers, Eagles, Cardinals and Niners are all 2-0. I know it's early but do any of these teams have a real shot at 16-0? Anyone want to speculate on why or why not any of these teams can do it?
Niners have a great D and play in a (fairly) weak division, so it is possible if their offense can continue to function as it has. Their most difficult games remaining are against the Pats and the Giants, as they've already won two of their hardest games this season. I think they'll be heavily favored in almost every other game, so they may have a shot. This team is reminiscent of the '85 Bears. Amazing defense and enough offense to get them what they need. That said, 16-0 is a really tall task, so I doubt it, but they have the best chance. Eagles won't. They've won by sheer luck. No team with that many turnovers should be 2-0. They'll fall back to earth in a big bad way. Cards are also no where NEAR as good as their record indicates, although their defense clearly has some real potential. There is just no way a team led by Kevin Kolb does that well. Chargers are coached by Norv Turner, so no, they won't be going 16-0. That'll get fucked up somehow. Texans also play in a division they should completely run away with, but they still have to play Green Bay, Baltimore, and New England. It would take a LOT to get there.
I wish people would stop shitting on the NFC West. Considering that this division has the talent to send at least 2 teams to the playoffs, beat the Patriots, Cowboys, Detroit and Redskins this week, and has the distinct possibility of sending Green Bay to 0-2 against the division next week.
As Coughlin said "this ain't college". When a player is basically leaving himself open, it's shitty to try and attack them.
