HR Giger the artist behind the Alien films has died. He was an artistic visionary that revolutionised science fiction and fantasy art: http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/may/13/hr-giger-dies-alien-artist
Giger was a deeply disturbed mind, but had a completely original (and endlrssly ripped-off) art that was all its own. His stuff was coal-dark, erotic and extremely onyx. And crazy.
H.R. Giger dead at 74 A moment of dread silence for the man who gave us one of the most terrifying monsters in cinema history.
Oprah is going to go into convulsions. She'll pretend it's grief, but it'll actually be pure joy, as she is finally able to take her rightful place at the top of the spiritual, enlightened, self-righteous, celebrity food chain.
I live where she lived. Though we didn't go to the same schools growing up, we grew up in the same places. She was a true "local" around here after her celebrity, and I've run into her many times. Boerne and the larger Leon Springs area (north of San Antonio) has a small-town feel despite the recent, massive growth and you pretty much talk to whomever is waiting in line with you just because you feel like talking and they may have something interesting to say. I was at the tail end of the "Brady Bunch" generation, but I was around enough to catch the movies and the re-runs. I definitely saw her more in person that I did on TV, though my older sisters will sway largely in the other direction. "Alice" was just a kind, sweet, talkative lady. Just like every other lady around her age I've talked to... And in talking with her, I think she'd want that comparison. Not a celebrity. Just your average next-door kinda-old neighbor.

British comedic actor Rik Mayall, who played one of the funniest characters ever: Lord Flasheart on Black Adder. he also starred in Drop Dead Fred and The Young Ones.
He was THE voice of rock radio. I also hear he was kind if an asshole, I didn't know much about him. Just that remarkable voice.
FUCK ME. Tony Gwynn, SD Padre and one of the greatest hitters ever to play is dead from cancer at 54. This guy was always clutch every season, a 3000 hit man and richly deserves his Hall Of Fame status. A TRUE baseball player.
And a real class act. More ballplayers, and pro athletes in general, should take note as to how Tony Gwynn conducted himself.
I was so happy when he beat Wade Boggs to 3000 hits. Thank god for that, Boggs was the opposite of Gwynn personality-wise.
