Sitting here watching the jags game until I can go to the bar for the later games to watch, what's it called again? The NFL? They're down 21-0 against the redskins and repeatedly give up sacks or huge chunks of yardage while committing penalties. On one play Cousins faked left and the ENTIRE jags defense bit on it. Then after the handoff went right two guys fell over trying to turn back and they gave up another 20 yards. It's going to be a long year for jags fans.
Chargers beat the Hawks, which was very impressive. No interceptions, and their traditionally awful defense has actually started stopping people. I guess that's all you need.
Question about tonight's game: Collinsworth mentioned how a switch was turned after Cutler got waterboy'd and the Bears have been cruising. He also said that the 4 TO's may help as well. What do you think: is it a matter of pros executing or did the sideline get fired up by Cutler's example?
Both. Cutler is more of a lead by example guy. He's not gonna be a ra-ra cheerleader to fire guys up, but no matter what idiots say, dude is tough as nails, and teammates like to see your QB gutting it out. They got some positive momentum, Kap made some dumb bad throws in the second half, and the Bears executed. Cutler was pretty meh the first part of the game, but he was 13-14 in the second half and just driving that offense. The defense looked hungry and Kyle Fuller had himself a coming out party. I'm just hoping their injuries aren't too bad. I worry Tillman may be done. But for now, that was an awesome win, and the most fun Ive had watching a Bears game in awhile. Which is shocking considering in the first half, I started to clean my family room and wondered why the fuck I was even watching as Matt Forte got stopped for another 2 yard gain.
The Vikings offense should get better as the season goes on. One thing hurting them is Jerome Simpson's suspension; with him out they really only have Jennings as a legitimate traditional receiver. Patterson is a great talent but he's still raw as a pure receiver and has a lot more to learn about route running. Wright is nothing more than a #4 guy, which is what he'll be once Simpson gets back in the lineup. The biggest area of concern is the offensive line. Kalil played like shit, and frankly hasn't played well since his rookie season. I don't know who blew the block on the blocked field goal but obviously, it's another red mark against the line. For all the accolades the line gets for its continuity, it sure doesn't play consistently from week to week. I haven't decided how I feel about Cassel starting next week after his performance yesterday. As much as I want Teddy to be made the starter, I don't want a repeat of last year's QB drama.
Between Peterson's effective suspension and Simpson being cut, this season is very rapidly turning to shit. Not even looking forward to this week's game.
Kirk Cousins is playing light years above RG3. Should be interesting to see what happens when he comes back from his injury. I wonder if the Luck / RG3 turns into another Manning / Leaf draft.
Seen on Twitter: Football Perspective @fbgchase 1m All out brawl in Philadephia. Riley Cooper with a racial slur. Screamed "I will fight every Redskin in here."
Dirty fucking hit from the Skins. It's not the first time that it's been done, though; Eli Manning got blindsided out of nowhere on the same sort of thing a while back. Interception, kinda-sorta in the neighborhood, player takes the opportunity to level him. Assholery at its finest.
Being an injury waiting to happen might eventually cost RGIII his starting job, but it's going to be hard to be the next Ryan Leaf after he's won rookie of the year. Green Bay fucking sucks. The whole division sucks. Whoever comes out of the shit pile that is the NFC north this year is probably going to be one and done. 7 points against the fucking lions? Are you kidding me?
Yes and no. I'm always hesitant to call a legal hit "dirty". The problem with that mindset is that once a pick is made the whole offense becomes defenders, and blocks downfield are always legal. QB's are players just like everyone else and they have to keep their heads on a swivel, although it's such a specific situation that I can understand how QB's don't have it in the back of their heads at all times. Add to that all the rule changes over the years protecting QB's that I can totally see defensive players thinking in the back of their head that if there's a pick that gets played out long enough due to a run back that they're going to have a bead on the quarterback. TL;DR If you're on the field you need to pay attention.
I also hate the idea that QB's are somehow exempt. If someone had clocked a lineman on that play, instead of Foles, no one would be saying shit, but "good hit". He's looking to make a play just like everyone else is on a turnover. If he was just walking away from the play and someone cold cocked him, I could understand. He was within 5 feet of the ball carrier at the time, I don't really see the issue.
