Miller wouldn't have let in 5.

Kane gave up, took a stupid penalty, led to another goal.

Team USA is a fucking joke.

Russia is first is medals presently, Canada 3rd and USA fourth. The hockey game sucked for USA. Why would they not put Miller in?

Ukraine wins the gold for firing guns from rooftops into crowds of people.

The US players had no desire to be playing in that game. I don't think Canada or Russia would've done any better in a bronze medal game, those three teams seemed to come into the tournament with an "all or nothing" attitude.

It's sad to say, but that is 100% true. They are the best and highest paid their country has to offer, bronze is a participation ribbon to them. Fuck it. Let the blonde smiley guys have one, they appreciate it more.

7am game time tomorrow here. I need to be fresh and rested because this what all the prayers and the vitamins come down to, this country's magnum opus of sports. There will be a SHITLOAD of people waking up with the birds tomorrow.

Third place in hockey tournaments is like playing to kiss your sister.

I totally agree that Canada would have mailed it in just the same.

I'd like to think someone put this in reverse, but I really don't think that's the case. If not, ewww gross. Think girl think!

The Americans had two Conn Smythe trophy winners. Playing for third place is just worthless. I can't imagine anyone being proud of a bronze medal outside of Slovenia or some of the other programs.

It's an hour until the final. I don't know about the rest of the country, but my people in Calgary are on fire. Game time is 5am and they're all partying straight through.

Sadly, I've come home for 2 hrs so I would stop drinking. I was supposed to have a nap, but it's not happening. I have a flight to Comox right after the game, followed by a four hour drive and won't be able to sleep until the wee hours of Monday morning (which is my birthday). My ride to the airport is the bartender where I just left. He'll have been at work for 16 1/2 hrs and is drinking. All his friends arrived before last call and aren't leaving. It seems I'm going to end up cabbing it. I'm going to be having a 38 hr run, with intermittent drinking. Jesus, I'm 49 and will probably die. Thank you Team Canada. I love you anyway.

    So pumped. GO CANADA GO!!

Hey guys, do you remember when things like this were said in this thread?

And then, that time when things like this were posted -

And then, that time that, after all this was posted, these guys tried to convince us that they didn't really care at all?

    Yeah, me too.

Absolutely dominant in every facet of the game. Phenomenal performance from our guys.

As much as I understand the arguments against letting them, it will be a fucking travesty if they don't let the NHLers play in 2018.

That's a perfect ending. It was all Canada, three goals allowed in six games.

Looks like Canada was dominant. Back to back shutouts? Really impressive. Looks like Babcock is as good as ever.

On a less dickish note, while I'm sure the Finnish team really would have preferred the chance to play for gold, I'm sure that the program is proud of the fact that they've won a medal in every Olympics since 1998, and the players can be proud of the fact they didn't shut it down just because they'd lost the semi-final. Teemu Selanne motivated the players in the dressing room by telling them that they might never have another chance to play for an Olympic medal, and they couldn't let the opportunity pass them by. That's a lot more to be proud of than "Fuck you, I didn't want your stupid bronze medal anyways".

I already admitted I was wrong, not about Price (he's mediocre) but in that I neglected to take into account a) Canada's insane team defense, which prevented him from seeing many good looks, and b) that a single elimination tournament with just 3-4 knockout games is a pretty small sample size. He's an average starting NHL goaltender, played near the top of his range during the tournament, and that combined with their team defense allowed them to win the gold. Over an 82-game regular season or even a 7-game playoff series there are still about 10-12 guys I'd take over him.

You can call Price mediocre all you want but he was far from mediocre in the Olympics. He went 5-0 with a .971 Save percentage and 0.59 GAA, including back to back shut outs in the semis and finals.
