Just throwing this out here - seeing as Slovenia, a team making its first appearance in Olympic hockey, beat Slovakia today, maybe we should let go of the idea of Slovakia being a tough, hard-to-beat team.
Certainly was the biggest shocker so far, I think that was their first win ever. Hey, good for them. It's looking like Canada vs USA for women like it practically always is. If so that will be one to watch they're as even as it gets.
This makes a lot of sense and needs to be considered. It makes no sense to award a title to a team that won a skills contest, but in the beginning rounds its not right to punish teams for going to extended overtimes.
What is it with female figure skaters and shiners, because I swear that's not the first one I've seen. Does something about figure skating encourage domestic violence?
Well everything that I was pulling for pretty much happened... Sage Kotsenburg won snowboard slope, USA swept ski slope (and Joss got gold), Shaun White didn't podium and now wants to "focus on his band," Wise won ski pipe. Henrik Harlaut got a massive amount of social media attention, Miley Cyrus is now following Kenworthy on twitter after he asked her to be his valentine. Danny Davis didn't podium in pipe and Torin didn't qualify, but overall it's a pretty solid olympics.
You forgot to mention Russia got bounced from hockey by losing 3-1 to Finland. I remember when Varlamov got arrested one Russian politician claimed that it was an American ploy to screw the Russians in the Olympics. Looks like it didn't matter. Decent team on paper, just couldn't bring it together when it mattered. Seems to be the story of Ovechkins career.
Slovakia didn't win a game. Any team can do shitty, teams lose SO MUCH Momentum in international hockey when they're favoured and they lose.

The Slovaks easily had the most disappointing tourney. Seems like there was some in team drama going on. That may have precipitated the bad showing.
Don't start backpedaling now that Canada has been only ok and the US looks like a beast. The Russians, for a team with Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalchuk, and Datysuk, were pathetic on offense for the majority of the tournament, and it was ultimately their undoing. Bobrofsky wasn't bad at all, they just couldnt score.
Canada barely beat Latvia. Yea. Meanwhile aside from the Russia game, the US has won every game by 3+. I think that says a lot. I'm thinking people in Canada are hoping that Hans will show up with a nice pair of skates of Babcock, which he'll then use on a pond and have a revelation which he'll then use to help the Canadians go on to win a gold medal. Keep in mind though, Canada has never won a gold medal outside of North America.
Who's backpedalling, superguy? I wasn't the one yammering about how Slovakia was great and they were the worst team of all. The "sad Czech team" beat them. Sloveniabeat them. USA is the best team. Canada does not stand a chance against them because the coaching has sucked for us beyond words. And scoring. Latvia was peppered with shot and we only scored twice. Canada hasn't played well enough to earn bronze.
