He was also convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a minor (12 and 14 year old girls at an autograph signing). I'm not happy he's dead, but I'm not crying either.
Jonah Lomu dies at age 40. Dude was the first real world-wide rugby superstar. http://static.mediaworks.co.nz/3news/jonah.html#axzz3rneqpdWL
Not only was he the largest and most recognizable face in rugby but he changed the way it was played forever.
Scott Weiland dead at 48. This one sucks. STP is one my favorite bands ever. Sadly I'm surprised he made it this long. Not many 90s front men left.
Indeed. "Core" is one of my favourite albums, and STP was a fucking badass 90's band. I liked Velvet Revolver too, but Weiland was a hopeless case from the start who chose drugs over everything else. I saw footage just s little while ago of him performing with his new band and he was HORRIBLE. He couldn't move, hit a note, nothing. What a waste.
I saw them in 2003 I think, some time around then. The guy was just a complete mess. My uncle used to tell me how he saw them in the early 90s and said they were amazing.
I saw them a few times in the 90's, they were awesome then, then Weiland crashed for a while. Saw them again with the Chili Peppers and Fishbone after No.4 was real eased, awesome again. Slash said "You would sooner see me working with THAT REDHEAD then you would with Scott Weiland?
Sucks. One of my favorite bands. I only saw them once a few years back when they played a pre Indy 500 concert. It was a good show.
I saw STP on a reunion tour in (I think) '09, and Weiland fucking killed it, one of the best shows I've ever seen. I saw him with Velvet Revolver in 2005, and he beat a guy's ass with a microphone for throwing a glass of water on the stage. It was amazing, a true rock 'n roll moment. I am very sad about this news, because as much of an asshole dope-fiend as he could be, he made some great music. EDIT: Somebody's gotta post it, because it fits:
FUCK! Robert Loggia, the greatest yelling voice in human history is dead at 85 wife just said. Loved the guy, one of the finest character actors ever.
God I love STP, the Scott Weiland death is just a punch in the gut to my younger me. So many memories. Anyway, enjoy this awesome performance by one of the great frontmen
Drugs will fuck you up. A girl I know saw him with Velvet Revolver and said his legs l He had one of the great lines in that show. "Know what the biggest change is for me? Broads shavin' their bushes. I went over to Silvio's, it's like the Girl Scouts in there."
I am another one who had the privilege of seeing STP perform. The second concert that I ever went to in my life was the Big Day Out that a former radio station here used to do, during my freshman year of high school, and STP was the headliner for the event that year. I'll never forget seeing them perform live. RIP Scott.
His wife and kids sum it up pretty nicely: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/scott-weiland-s-family-dont-glorify-this-tragedy-20151207 It's refreshing honesty about what living with an addict is really like, and focuses the sympathy where it belongs.
You can still love the art but not love the person. I have no delusions that most of the folks who "entertain" us are likely horrible human beings. It probably takes a certain amount of ego to make it big, then I am sure the industry crushes out any remaining humanity. Don't mind me, I have spent my day dealing with teen angst during exams (so.....much......crying) so my mood is a little low
