That was a really good movie. Very Michael Mann though and the climatic scene set against InAGoddaDavida was a little over the top. So hard to disconnect Lector movies from Silence of the Lambs. Still I liked it a whole lot more than Red Dragon.
The climax seemed strange, yes? Mann actually ran out of money and couldn't shoot the book climax so he got rid of the whole staff and shot it hand-held. He used a cigarette lighter to burn holes in Noonan's shirt. Mann always has incorporated loud or flashy rock and contemporary music. Trademark of Miami Vice. Dude sure loves Audioslave.
I haven't seen Manhunter, but the version of Red Dragon that they did in the TV show was pretty great.
Manhunter was an absolutely amazing movie, and William Peterson did a phenomenal job. Highly recommended.
