Never mind "The Magnificent Seven". Best thing about Robert Vaughn is the rumor that his contract for "The Man from Uncle" said he always got to kiss that week's female guest star. I do not know if it is true, but I cannot recall an episode that he did not. Fuck another part of my youth gone.
Dr. Denton Cooley, the Texas doctor who performed some of the earliest heart transplants. But not just that. He quarterbacked the modern procedure for bypass surgery, and installed the first ever artificial heart. Chances are his work may have saved somebody's life that you know. Or yourself. A genius, and truly great man. 96 years young, he stuck around.
It's interesting that we normalized relations with Cuba shortly before he passed away. Shortly before normalizing relations the CIA tried one last time to stir up a revolution. This time by using social media. You couldn't really think anything other than "Oh, that was retarded." There were legit reasons in the 60s that the US needed to be concerned, but it never should have went on for 50+ years.
I have to say he was one of my bigger "Jesus he's still alive?" Folks out there. Zsa zsa Gabor still hanging tough with a few less limbs I hear.
Castro was a badass. Think about all the times America tried to kill him and failed. Defiant to the end.
I've thought about this often. In the early '60s, just as the Cold War was amping up and Kennedy and Khrushchev and all the spies were coming into their own whoever would have guessed that, out of all of them, it would be Castro who lived a long life?
On the other hand, he was a murderer and dictator. Then again the guy before him --Batista-- was a WAY bigger asshole.
Firefly? How about Detective Ron Harris on Barney Miller? Argh you kids are going to kill me if 2016 does not do it first.
