It's getting to the point where I'm afraid to even check this thread. Jesus, how many people are going to die this year? Next it'll be Eddie Murphy and Axl Rose at this rate.
A couple years ago he replied to me on twitter when I marveled that he was still alive if that counts.
Johan Cruyff. Lung cancer. One of the most influential soccer players and coaches ever. He also played in the old NASL in the U.S.A., too. He played in 2 World Cup Finals, won the Ballon d'Or (European Player Of The Year) three times and won the European Cup (UEFA Champions League) three times, with Ajax Amsterdam (8 division titles there too). Also renowned as a brilliant coach, whose methods are still used today - F.C. Barcelona have been using his methods very successfully for a number of years. Cancer is a bitch. EDIT: He invented a soccer move. Not too many players have done that, but MANY have tried to emulate the Cruyff Turn, some successfully. There's a video of it by the inventor from the 1974 World Cup vs. Sweden. Outstanding stuff.
I liked Larry Sanders Show but I think I liked it because Rip Torn and Tambor kicked so much ass. I always liked Shandling, he was never bombastic or a try-hard. I didn't think he was hilarious per se but still very likable and clever. Dana Carvey's impersonation of him was a riot.
Jim Harrison dead at 78. The Star Tribune (linked) has an incredibly thorough, thoughtful obituary from AP. I am seriously saddened. This guy is a legend. RIP, Jim. May you be swimming in French wine and tits. “Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness. And they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy... or they become legend. ”
Actress Patty Duke dead at age 69 http://wreg.com/2016/03/29/actress-patty-duke-dead-at-age-69/ EDIT: I didn't realize she lived back home.
....and the Governor on Benson, James Noble, dead at 94. http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebri...-at-94/ar-BBr4gQb?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=mailsignout
Amber Rayne dead at 31 Suspected overdose (you don't say). First rock stars and actors, then writers. Now 2016 wants our porn stars? Something, something penis at half mast in remembrance.
Fucking Hell. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-35965835 Admiral Ackbar voice actor Erik Bauersfeld dies at 93
I hate to say it, but maybe Bam Margera is next? http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/bam-margera-family-therapy-ryan-dunn?utm_source=vicefbcaads
Jesus Christ. 14 year old me loved Jackass when it came out. I think VICE hit the nail on the head with the last line, "Tune in to VH1 to see a broken man cry in his mother's arms." Yikes. I know TV is how this family makes its nut, but maybe step 1 should be get rid of the cameras and give therapy and rehab an earnest shot?
Not sure if the video was shown, but this is worth watching... it's incredibly shocking just how far he's fallen since his prime: (start at 5:19 in case it auto-embeddes the video)
I'm drinking in his honor right now. He's one of the true outlaw-country legends, who did time in prison before becoming famous. I've been listening to him since I was a kid. Everyone should shed a tear over the loss of this man.
When I was a kid, like 10 or 11, I didn't have a big collection of cassette tapes to listen to. I think I had Olivia Newton John and Michael Jackson and that was it. Occasionally when I got bored I would pop in one of my parents' country tapes, and one of them was Merle. My favorite was Momma Tried.
It probably comes as no surprise to anyone that I once was actually an Okie from Muskogee. Actually Checotah, but I worked in Muskogee.
