I agree and would be 100% fine with a change in commissioner at this point. I don't think it will happen though. The saints might have something to say about that. The vikings have positioned themselves well for a top seed, they definitely have the softest schedule the rest of the way out of the top teams. I'm still holding out hope for a rams/jags super bowl. I wonder if the packers will consider giving Callahan a shot. It doesn't matter at this point and I really don't have much in the way of expectations for Callahan, but what do they have to lose? The idea that Hundley is being prepped for a long term role or is going to command any sort of meaningful trade value is laughable. The defense isn't even that bad, but holy shit is that offense useless without Rodgers.
Sweet jesus. I'm an old school fan, so I can't say this without some small amount of trepidation, but... Are the Vikings for real? Case fucking Keenum is making a play for MVP. After losing our starting QB and starting RB, we are on a 7 win win streak, including a couple really tough teams, and currently the number 2 seed in the NFC. Keenum was pulling plays out of his ass while under duress and converting 3rd downs with them. They still have a finish-the-half problem, but the offense and defense are both formidable.
I won't ever believe the Vikings are for real until they're hoisting the Lombardi. Any faith in them sooner than that always leads to heartbreak.
In all seriousness they do look really good. They aren't showing any weak spots for now. Keenum is the league MVP for the moment, which is strange to say, but he's made some incredible plays over the last few weeks under pressure. It'll be interesting to see how they do against the falcons and panthers, which will be a good test for the defense. As good as the defense has been they've also been playing a lot of shitty offenses (minus the rams).
Actually he's not anywhere close to being the MVP. He's the backup quarterback, and saying he's the MVP is saying that if they would've had a healthy Bradford playing all year the Vikes wouldn't be as good as they are. Bradford put on a clinic the game he did play, so can you really say Keenum is better than a healthy Bradford? Washington and Detroit have decent offenses, and of course they put up 30 and 23 points, respectively. But Atlanta is the only top-ten offense left on the Vikings schedule, so by that measure the Vikings' defense really won't be tested beyond Atlanta until the playoffs. I'm most concerned about the kicking game. Forbath missed two field goals last week, had one blocked yesterday, and has missed 5 PATs, which is worst in the lead. The Vikings have managed to win every game except the Bears game by a touchdown or more, but I fear any close game because right now the Vikes can't depend on their kicking.
Bradford only played one game so I don't think he's too relevant to the season either way. Keenum isn't the runaway favorite, but he's definitely in the hunt. Back up or not, if you're the most valuable player for your team you're still going to win it. It'll be interesting to see what the vikings decide to do in the offseason. They essentially have two QBs who are playing at a top ten level, and both were terrible to mediocre before coming to Minnesota. Bradford is an injury waiting to happen so I wouldn't be too surprised if they decided to stick with Keenum. I can't see them holding onto both, as I don't think it would be worth losing some of the key defensive players.
McAdoo and Reese fired from the giants today. That franchise is looking like a disaster right now. Benching Manning for Geno fucking Smith like that was somehow going to fix things was baffling. They're on the fast track to becoming the next browns. Maybe they shouldn't have fired a two time super bowl winning coach. I get that it's a 'what have you done for me lately' league, but sometimes you can forgive a bad run when a coach has clearly established that he can be successful.
As a fan of the Bengals, and sometimes Burfict. I'm curious about what the NFL will do with Gronk. I'm not sure a more obviously dirty hit exists. Burfict gets suspended for breathing wrong sometimes, so I am very interested.
Burfict should be suspended from the league, his history demonstrates no reason to give him any benefit of the doubt. Fuck Burfict, he's one of the only players where I'd chuckle if I saw him get leveled on the field. Gronk's hit was dirty as hell, and he should be suspended at least a game for it, but at least he doesn't have a history of dirty play.
Manning back. Because that's going to help literally anything. At least take a look at your other guys and see what you have, the damage has been done.
Look at what, exactly? There's little to "look at" with Geno Smith. Either he's the guy they want, or not. He has plenty of time with meaningful snaps. Geno Smith doesn't need discovery. Davis Webb was a project quarterback who hasn't been in a first-team practice all year. Throwing him into a game after not taking a first-team practice snap isn't a useful exercise, it's a recipe for failure. If they want to groom him, it doesn't matter whether Manning or Smith are under center in the interim, and Manning is going to make the fans happier and put more butts in the seats during a terrible year. Plus, it's a lot more convincing to say, "we're shitcanning bad coaching and bad leadership who made bad decisions" when you undo the most visible of those bad decisions.
Yeah, if they want a QB for the future they either need to go to the draft or make a play at whichever vikings QB is going to be leaving. Geno Smith is not a long term answer at QB. I'm not a big Eli fan, and I certainly don't think he's a hall of famer, but he's not that bad either. He's average, which is a lot better than Geno. There was no reason to bench Eli in the first place.
If it's even possible, the average NFL QB play has been below average. So, average Eli, the two-time Super Bowl winner is a keeper for now. At least until a similar, younger average QB can be obtained.
The problem is that "average" QB play in the NFL is pretty ugly. Without a historic performance elsewhere on the field (e.g. Broncos with gimped Peyton Manning), average QB play means you get absolutely run over by the top 10 teams. And even "average" quarterbacks are few and far between. Guess so. Uh... Hurrah?
That was one of the weirdest football games I've ever watched. It was more about the officials running the game than it was about the actual game. And what the fuck was the deal at the end of the half? Just weird.
I feel for you Eagle fans. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/carson-wentz-takes-hard-hit-ruled-knee-injury-001006919.html Wentz is a big reason that I even give a small shit about NFL football.
