Somewhat interesting... So far this season there have been 10 shutouts, 5 of those games had a final score of 1-0.
I LOVE going to an MLB game where your team wins 1-0. Despite the lack of offence it’s hair raising for the final half right of the game, right until the last play. And they don’t take four hours to play.
Did y'all see that stat ESPN posted on IG? Stanton struck out 16 times the first week of the season. In 1941, Joe Dimaggio struck out 13 times. The whole season.
8 games in and 4 of the 9 from the Mariners starting line up are on the DL (Gamel, Cruz, Zunino, & Healy) , Ichiro is their DH, and OF Taylor Motter pitched for them last night. It's going to be a long fucking year.
I’ll say it again - MLB should work as an organization to keep him playing until Pete Rose can’t use any excuses to say he’s the record holder.
That's going to be challenging. He needs 1200 more hits, so he would need 6 years if he was hitting at the +200/yr pace during his peak. Since 2013, he's only topped 100 hits in a year once. Although, Ichiro looks fit enough to keep playing until he's 56.
Well then, the opposing pitchers are just going to have to step up their game and start grooving pitches to him.
What they should do is call him the all-time hit King. Not just because he has the most professional hits, but more importantly: I need Pete Rose to draw his last breath knowing he is NOT the all time hit leader and just a piece of shit who couldn’t even bat .100 in his last two seasons. Rose losing is more important than Ichiro winning. And Ichiro deserves to win.
So good to watch the Sox tee off on Ohtani. Keep stacking up the wins now and have a good lead before the summer slump.
As hot as the Red Sox are so far this year, the A’s Sean Manaea is one out away from giving them their first no-hitter in 25 years. EDIT: and he did it.
My youngest sister just texted me from the Oakland Coloseum. Seems that she and her husband decided to take in the game. That bitch.
Last night Ohtani once again had control problems, though nowhere near the issue he had with the BoSox. That night against Boston he couldn't get anything but the fast ball over and he was so wild that even pitches that caught the whole strike zone were called balls. Shohei Ohtani hit 101 mph on Tuesday night, the fastest by a starting pitcher this season That AB was impressive. Start someone off with a 77mph curve and then dial up three 100mph fastballs with everything on the corners? That's fucking nasty.
Ronald Acuña has been hyped up so much by the Braves for the last year, Spring training, and now MLB in general has jumped on the hype train in the last few days. They called up Acuña yesterday, and I keep saying "slow your roll, everybody. I've heard this stuff before and it's more likely he's a letdown." He did okay yesterday, got a hit, and scored a run. But, just a little while ago he hit a monster bomb in Cincy. I'm starting to buy in a little bit. Ozzie Albies, Braves 2B is having a great year too, and until yesterday, he was the youngest player in the Majors at 21. Now Acuña is at 20. I am cautiously optimistic about the Braves rebuilding program for success over the next 2-5 years.
