As a child of the 80's I am so fucking sad. Even more so because Van Halen is one of the (my) 3 top bands I never got to see live (Fleetwood Mac and Aerosmith round that out). RIP EVH. Tell Tom Petty we all miss him terribly and hope you two get to chill together. 2020 can officially suck my dick, even though I don't have one. What a bummer man.
Fuck. I was just listening to him on Sunday night and trying to explain to the wife how he was *the* guitar god to all the kids my age. Fuck cancer and fuck 2020
They just came out with some super expensive recreation of one of his Frankenstein guitars. There were a lot of comments about how it was way too much money. I'm sure they are all immediately sold out.
Mostly listened to the radio stuff that I love but I was never a huge fan of the kinda hair metal sound. He was one of the top stand out guitarist of the 80s. I thought it was cool he went full in on including his son in the band. Also super cool he placed the guitar from the back of Van Halen 2 in Dimebag Darrell's casket to be buried with because it was Dimebag's favorite guitar.
Dime’s friend said that if he knew EVH was going to bury him with his guitar, he’d kill himself right then. Both of those guys were very, very special at their craft.
Fuck, just Fuck. You do not punish your body like he did and live to 90. I knew throat cancer had returned, but fuck.
Well shit. There isn't a musician alive that wasn't in some way influenced by EVH. That's a helluva legacy to leave behind. VH wasn't one of my favorite bands, but I did listen (And still do) listen to them quite a bit (At least with DLR, really never liked Van Hagar.) Like everyone else my age, Eddie was a huge influence in one way or another on my playing. And I passed that influence on to the players I taught and they'll pass it on forever. Eddie may have left the mortal coil, but his music, his style, his innovations....they will live on forever. Every time some kid picks a guitar for the rest of time, somehow he will be influenced by Eddie.
If I end up in Hell, Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver will be calling the baseball games I am forced to listen to.
Now he's running around the afterlife telling anyone who'll listen "When I was with the Big Red Machine..."
It is not bragging if you can back it up. Joe Morgan could back it up in spades. I was never a Reds fan, I will always be a Joe Morgan fan.
