I genuinely regret that I've been roasting Trump for years and the most clever joke I've come up with during that period came at the expense of such a truly decent man as Alex Trebek. But the joke was there and I had to go for it.
I literally just re-googled his name thinking I had been duped by some fake tmz site after reading your post. I dont think I could have made it on that show.
It's like he refused to go out until he saw a hopeful end to the "ignore science" direction the US was going in.... like some ghost with shit to get settled.
The wife and I watch Jeopardy religiously. This one hurts. Might've shed a tear or two. I don't know if I'll be able to watch the show without him at the helm.
It’s been interesting to see them insert Jennings into the mix. It’ll also be interesting to see how the transition goes. But holy fuck... dude worked like a beast right up to the end.
He's taped shows up that will air up through Christmas. This article was good. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/08/arts/television/alex-trebek-dead.html I had no idea that he married a Playboy bunny, or that he had hosted the PA Governor's debate, nor that it went so poorly.
Hal Ketchum. I saw him in concert years ago. I think he opened for Sawyer Brown or something. He started a song, messed up the opening words and stopped. He said something like, "welp, I screwed that up. Let's try it again." The band just started over, and he go it right the next time.
I didn't hear this until I saw your post. Fuck this year, right in the ass. Dry I never saw Hal Ketchum live but always considered him to be one of the most underrated country singers of the 90's. I listen to his stuff a lot still.
Much beleaguered Darth Vader actor David Prowse. The only other thing I remember seeing him in is his two and a half scenes in A Clockwork Orange. The dinner scene where they drug Alex is one of the best scenes in the film. https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/29/ente...vadar-star-wars-dies-gbr-scli-intl/index.html
I have crossed paths with him. I went to a Niagara comic-con with a friend who badly wanted to meet Marc Silverstri, and I crossed paths with Prowse. Old as fuck, in obvious chronic pain, in a wheelchair with the guy who played Bubba-Fett (the most overrated character is history). It was sad. He didn’t look happy, all I could think was he should be some place where it’s nice all year and running out the clock there. This was like, eight years ago. It was like that for Tim Curry too. Tim Curry is talent-extraordinaire, the fucking MAN for cult acting eclipsing even Bruce Campbell. But he was wheeled out half-paralyzed and didn’t know where the fuck he was. He looked like he had Downs, it was heartbreaking. Help these people die comfortably, for god’s sake.
Ive always wanted to go to a comic con or trek convention just to people watch. Beyond the Mat kind of killed the allure of it all. On one hand I understand some of these "stars" had no talent but lucked out landing a cult gig. It is an easy revenue stream for them once the show stops and acting gigs dry up. Can't really fault them for milking it. At some point, once the disdain for the series finale wears off, you'll see Game of Thrones 2nd and 3rd tier characters flogging it.
Game of Thrones had a for-sure future of fandom that would rival the top sci-go series. Then season seven and eight happened and yeah.... poison pill. Since then D&D have directed an entire Leslie Jones Netflix special. Glamourous. mad for people-watching, ComicCon and FanExpo is like two hundred Wafflehouse 11pm crowds combined into one Voltron of hilariousness. It’s worth the price of admission alone.
Curry was definitely physically affected by the stroke, and I'm sure mentally for a period thereafter, but these days he seems cognitively with it and maintaining a sense of humor and charm. I think he's still engaging because he genuinely loves performing and loves interacting with people.
Ellen Page dead, long live Elliot Page. https://www.indiewire.com/2020/12/elliot-page-transgender-ellen-page-1234601639/
Lol somebody’s starved for attention. Must be tough out there as a celebrity during the pandemic. Nothing like bitching about the patriarchy for years only to turn around and join it.
