Willie Garson died last week, of pancreatic cancer. https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/24/entertainment/willie-garson-cause-death/index.html Most remember him from Sex and the City, I guess. I’ll always remember him as Ted Muntz, from one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies, Out Cold.
General Raymond Odierno He was the commanding General when I was in Iraq. A very capable and personable leader.
Gary Paulsen, 82 Reading his book got me into wilderness stuff, especially hiking and making fires (and the associated stories on here). Ironically, during the the snowpocalypse, it was my hatchet that I carried everywhere and really helped fix some problems before they became a disaster.
A voice of reason and logic in a cabinet that self-destructed its own country. He was a great man. And he tainted that greatness by lying his fucking ass off for his shitty boss.
He was lied to by Rumsfeld, Cheney and the intelligence community, then used as their mouthpiece. He retired from politics when he realized this. He got suckered, just like the rest of us.
Peter Scolari dead at 66 from cancer. He starred in a short lived sitcom in the early 80s with Tom Hanks. He later went on to a role in "Newhart".
Short lived, but “Bosom Buddies” was the springboard for Tom Hanks’ career. They also remained good friends. Scolari had a cameo in “That Thing You Do” as the Ed Sullivan style host of the TV showcase that the band plays.
Yup. I loved when clueless reporters would ask Hanks things like “Ever wonder what your Bosom Buddies co-star has been up to?” And Hanks replied “I’m pretty sure he’s having lunch with me tomorrow, unless he cancels again!”

Judy Grafe, who played the mother of the title characters on The Adventures of Pete & Pete. This is sad to hear. As a '90s kid I watched most of the Nickelodeon shows of that era, and Pete & Pete actually still holds up well today. I met Mike Maronna and Danny Tamberelli at one of their live podcasts about three years ago, and they were both super nice guys who were happy to talk to everyone in attendance individually. Based on the post that I saw they seem genuinely upset about her passing.
Bob Dole. I was surprised to hear he was still alive a year or so ago when it was announced he had cancer and was starting chemo at 97. Tough motherfucker.
Last person to run for President that was a WWII vet. He spent a good chunk of the war fighting Nazis* and grew up during the Dust Bowl, that’s quite a formative first part of life. (*Actual Nazis, not “I don’t like your politics therefore you’re a Nazi” Nazis.)
