I thought Vangelis was kind of pretentious, but I found out the dude's real name was Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou
I think being pompous is kind of a requirement for prog rock, especially in the keys department. See: Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, etc.
Ray Liotta https://deadline.com/2022/05/ray-liotta-dies-67-godfellas-1235033521/amp/ Man had one of the best insane laughs in Hollywood.
He played cops. He played criminals. He played cops who were criminals. And basically played nothing else for almost fifty years. A great actor, not so well-liked behind the scenes. Standout performances: Unlawful Entry and NARC. Played two entirely different kind of scary cop. And finally, we will always have this, the coolest fucking thing every filmed with a camera: : :
He was so good in Goodfellas, but the movie scene I will always most remember is him eating his own brain in Hannibal.
Ronnie Hawkins https://pitchfork.com/news/ronnie-hawkins-rockabilly-star-and-the-bands-first-leader-dies-at-87/amp/
Philip Baker Hall. Amazing character actor. 90. Good long time. My favorite bit character one off scene in any movie ever.
One of the best “I Know That Guy” actors ever. PTA’s first movie, Hard Eight starring Hall as one of my favourite movie characters of all time. There was not a second of that movie I thought he was actually acting. Also see “Secret Honour” if you want to see him play Nixon in the most madcap performance imaginable.
Former NFL player Tony Siragusa dead at 55. Seemed like a really good guy. https://www.tmz.com/2022/06/22/nfl-legend-tony-siragusa-dead-at-55/
Ralph “Sonny” Barger. Most famous Hell’s Angel of all, outlaw, killer, pimp and rapist of little girls, snivelling hypocrite piece-of-shit. Among many things, he was the ring leader for the so-called “security detail” for Altamont where he forced the Rolling Stones onto the stage at gunpoint after they refused to play because of the violence already inflicted. Good fucking riddance to bad people.
If I hand to pick one role or one film, it’s undoubtably Thief. His most awesome and believable character, Michael Mann’s first (and one of his best) movie. He’ll always by Sonny, but the Godfather was so much more than just him.
