I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about Thunberg. Her whole message is literally "listen to the adults who are smarter and more knowledgeable than I am. The only reason I'm doing this is because you guys haven't been listening to the people we pay to figure this shit out."
I don’t like her either. Because it’s not her own doing that made her famous or so well known. She is a pawn being set up and used by others with money and power to share their point of view under the guise/spokesperson of Greta. The fact that they are going out of their way to hide that rubs me the wrong way.
I do a good bit of climate research, (most of my publications in the field are on on glacial mass balance changes) and I personally can't stand how so much of the climate discussion in media is focused on whatever Greta does and says. She has been propped up as the end all be all of climate discussion. Now her message at its base is perfectly reasonable like you said "listen to those who know what they are talking about". Except whenever she shows up to some climate conference, all the attention is focused on her since the media loves her. I mean, yeah, IPCC reports are massive snoozers to read, and honestly utterly incomprehensible for the general public, and compressing the science into digestible soundbites is pretty damn hard. Now the media loves her, but lets face it, she is a rather unpleasant and snarky child. Easy to for people who deny the reality of human impact on climate to tear her down, and ignore any message she has to offer, and the media has offered her up on a platter for that to happen.
My problem with this kid is she came out on the international stage with her snarling, "How dare you?" and because of her Asperger's or whatever the hell she has, ANY criticism or critique of her or her statements is shouted down as an unfair attack on her.
That's why there's a 2 drink minimum at every show. Just don't ask to see the drinks actually being made.
Liking a charmless, annoying 'sperg is not a dependency for caring about climate change. Hate her ass all you want.
I just don't understand the point in hating her. Either acknowledge she's right, and like her, or acknowledge she's right, and ignore her. But putting effort into hating her when actual climate criminals don't get a fraction of the negative attention she gets feels like it's not really a good faith critique of her actions.
Well, it was a hell of a run. All the employees have said their goodbyes and I'm wrapping up things in the office. Not even going to try to lie, I'm pretty emotional right now. I've poured so much of my life, heart and soul into the business that I feel like it's become part of who I am. Hard to believe that when I turn that lock in a few minutes, it'll be for the last time. Such a bittersweet feeling.
