So the other day, Clayton Kershaw pitched seven perfect innings. He did not start the bottom of the 8th inning. He says he agrees with the decision, that spring training was shorter and you shouldn’t chase a perfect game just because, you don’t wanna mess up the season because of it, and so on… …what do you guys think? I personally think that some of these pitching decision are a little bit of overthinking. It’s a perfect game, go for it, for these reasons: -Kershaw’s pitch count was 80. That’s not astronomical. -The Dodgers we’re leading 3-0 at that point, so you let him pitch until the perfection is gone. There’s no way it could be worse than 3-1 when he gives up something. -I can’t think of anything that might have happened to affect the rest of the season, that isn’t possible during any pitch of any game.
It was the right decision, especially given Kershaw being more injury-prone in the last few years. Also, all the managers are shaped by Terry Collins' decision to allow Johann Santana to stay in for a no-hitter, despite being over the pitch limit. It ruined Santana's career, and Collins still feels guilty about it. Also, in these days of analytics, the numbers probably did not support Kershaw being able to finish out the no hit bid, so why risk it?
Okay, I get that. But why not let him come in for the 8th? He can he pulled at any time, so have the bullpen warming up and see if he can make quick work of them. If not, make the change. I guess that all depends on what Kershaw’s pitch limit is. Follow-up question: do you think that the record books regarding pitching (longevity-dependent situations) are pretty much set, then? Have we seen the end of perfect games, no-hitters, 20+ strikeouts, etc.?
That's awesome. Wish they'd have a way for non-locals to get one. Guess I'll just need to keep perusing e-bay in the next few weeks.
They're doing two more games with the replica ring, FYI, if you know someone that can go either night to get you one, or you feel like traveling. (May 23 and June 8, but I can't go to either of those.)
Yeah, I saw that they were doing 3 in total, but unfortunately I don't know anyone in that area. Like I said, I'm sure at least a few people will try and make a quick buck or two off of them.
Ohtani was dealing tonight. He was perfect through 5 with 11 K's. Finished with 6 innings, one hit and 12 K's. He also beat out a bunt single, had a double and couple of RBI. He is not human. No. Way.
He's doing to get paid for sure, but he's already shown that money isn't a major motivating factor for him. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
How bad is the Angels system - Manager, GM, scouts - that they can have Trout and Ohtani and not assemble a playoff contender? They haven't been to the playoffs since 2014?
I’ve honestly thought the Red Sox are wanting to go for Ohtani. I doubted when I heard they were one of the favorites for Suzuki, but when he went to the Cubs, that kept the theory alive. John Henry wants a Japanese superstar. Dice-K was not it. But he’s also a tightass, so I doubt they’ll pay what Ohtani wants, and eventually gets.
Who else do the angels have? Nobody? You can’t win a championship on one or two players, this isn’t basketball. As great as those two guys are they are surrounded by trash and deserve better. Especially Trout.
Yes, I agree, which was my point. Trout and Shotime don't get to draft, trade or grab free agents. So the ownership and management are absolute trash.
Every time I hear an announcer say "The Guardians" it sounds to me like they're talking about a Little League team sponsored by a waste management company. What a stupid name.
Agreed. The “Steamers” would be a much better name. Enjoy any name while it lasts, because wokeness will eventually claim it. The Washington Football Team is currently the only team name that is 100% safe. Commanders will be deemed offensive sooner or later.
