Those kids paid for every kick in the nuts that mascot had to endure for years. Every snot nosed little kid that fucked with him, where he had to restrain himself and his reaction. Now? Fuck that. That stiff arm to the face? You’re paying the price for all the little shits that came before you. Today, I get to win.
Oh my fucking god. Please confirm to me that someone actually went through the money and booking to make that happen just to make a “friend” look like an asshole. #FreeMark
I don't know how far the Braves will go in the playoffs, but watching their young first-year guys - Harris, Grissom, Strider - has been fun. Strider struck out 16 tonight, with 0 ER, 2 H and 0 BB in 8 innings. Crazy. That set the Braves K record. Crazy considering the old record was when pitchers used to hit.
I know nobody is watching the Pirates, but if you get a chance, Oneil Cruz is fun. He absolutely murders the baseball. He hit one 122+ mph the other night against the Braves, and it's the hardest hit ball since they started measuring with StatCast. His numbers are consistently high. He's lanky and has a great leverage swing. He should easily be at 30/100 in a full season.
Next year baseball is instituting a pitch clock and making shifts illegal. I'm not a big baseball fan, I only watch the playoffs. The pitch clock makes sense to me, but making shifts illegal doesn't. What do baseball lovers think?
I don't really mind the changes. I think the larger bases is dumb solution to reduce collisions, and I don't see the slightly shorter distance resulting in more stolen bases. I wish they would've just changed to a double bag at first like little leagues use. The two pickoff attempts will definitely be interesting and is a fairly significant change for some pitchers. I do like the nuance of a third attempt being allowed if it's successful, especially for a pitcher like Max Fried who is really good at pickoffs. The rule changes may increase the number of singles for dead pull hitters, but it will often be turning singles into doubles for speedy runners. And, will definitely increase scoring, as those speedy runners are now on second when those pull hitters get a single. The most egregious change is still the stupid zombie runner in extra innings, and I want that to go away next year.
Braves-Mariners on AppleTV tonight. Travis d'Arnaud hit a home run. (The name on the back of his jersey is d'ARNAUD. His nickname is Little D.) After the home run, the announcing crew: Hunter Pence: Little D with the big stick. (But it kinda sounded like he said "with the biggest dick") Stephen Nelson: Uh, phrasing? Katie Nolan: What?! Pence: What? That's his nickname. What're you thinking about? lol
AppleTV? Is there an MLB app or something that you stream with? I've got F1 and NFL sorted out on my AppleTV, but MLB is something I haven't tried. Any pointers you can share?
AppleTV does a game every Friday night. There is a West coast game and East (or Central) game. It's free. You don't need to have a AppleTV subscription, just an Apple ID. Just call up AppleTV (I'm streaming on my smart TV) and choose AppleTV+ and the live game is one of the programming choices. That said - that is for U.S. Canada may have restrictions?
Nice! Thanks. I still have about 2 years of free AppleTV subscription anyway, due to all the Apple gear I buy... I've just never really used it. I'll check it out.
I enjoy the stats and live metrics they put up. Swanson RBI probability: 24% And it updates every pitch. They have different camera angles, the HD is crazy sharp, and they do some better in-game interviews that are superior to Fox's smarmy Joe Buck cuts.
I am interested to see what the changes will do for the energy of the game. I am not a huge fan of defensive shifts - but if I’m being honest, it’s only because I am getting really fucking tired of the Red Sox subscribing to the “fuck everything about the game except the long ball” mentality. Look where it’s gotten them. I want singles. I want men on base and RBIs from singles. I really don’t understand why the zombie runner is still being used, other than maybe the players like avoiding long extra inning games.
Sorry Rush. But this was the 9th inning to end all 9th innings. The AL Wildcard is a legit battle royal now.
