I hope they lose in the first round. Since the Braves may go in as a wildcard, I'm glad they changed the wildcard round to best of 3 instead of a one game winner-take-all, now.
It's a double-edged sword though, because now you're forced to throw out your top two or three starting pitchers and then immediately go into the 2nd round against a team that has all of their starters fully rested. I'm still holding out hope that the Mets will collapse in their typical fashion and the Braves can lock up the 2 seed and not have to worry about seeing the Dodgers until the NLCS.
That's great, and I'm happy for him. But it would take him 4 more years, if he's lucky, to get to 763. I don't think he'll be able to run the bases in two more years. His mobility looks rough these days.
Braves and Mets tied again, atop the NL East, 7 games left in the season, 3 head-to-head in ATL this weekend. What fun headed into the playoffs!
This year is an absolute shootout for the playoffs, in both leagues. Jays are battling Yankees are battling for the magic number right now in Toronto.
Mariners make the playoffs for the first time since 2001! That was the current longest drought from any team. But, the Phillies can take over that dubious honor if they stumble in the last few days and the Brewers heat up.
Jays are in too. Happy times for now, Mariners fans are the most long-suffering of all. They NEEEEEEEEEEEEED this. If the Jays can’t win it then I hope they do.
Mets came to ATL with a one game lead. The Braves won all three, sweeping the Mets against DeGrom, Scherzer and Bassit. If the Braves win one of three against the Marlins or the Mets lose one of three against the Nationals, the Braves win the East. Fangraphs Mets & Braves odds all year: In addition to how that must crush the Mets fans, after they enjoyed being atop the East for most of the season, now the Mets have to (probably) go against the Padres, and if they win that, face the 110+ win Dodgers. All the petty back-and-forth between the Mets & Braves fans (I'm including my own pettiness in this) has been hilarious. (Mets closer Diaz has the same music when he comes out of the bullpen that Braves catcher/DH William Contreras uses for his walkup music, and Mets trying to claim Contreras shouldn't use it because it belongs to them.) But, nothing about the petty bickering makes me happier than the fact it pissed off Kevin Olbermann. I mean, when your defense is "but he won TWO home run derbies!" that is just fucking hilarious.
Anyone whose team has not lost 102 games so far this year can just go fuck yourselves. I am not bitter at all.
Toytoy is a Mariners fan, he knows pain more than any of us. If your team’s third jersey suddenly is the colour black, you know your team officially sucks. They’re doing this to cast a desperate, badass image. That’s why the Jays had black jerseys 15 years ago: because they sucked.
Unlike actors, athletes have a habit of being as good as their parents at their jobs. Jays have Guerrero and Bichette’s kids.
Growing up in PA, I went to a minor league game for the Harrisburg Senators (then affiliated with the Expos) when I was around ten years old. Guerrero Sr. was on the team and was just unstoppable, miles above everybody in terms of talent. Wasn’t surprised to see him in the show soon after.
The man is an absolute freak of nature to the sport. He hit pitches that couldn’t be hit. Turned singles into triples. Hit laser beam home runs. One of the best players of his entire generation, no doubt.
I really think some of this has to be that the kids learn very early, how difficult and how much sacrifice has to go into making it to the Major Leagues. Raw talent is never enough, those that make it to the Majors have a work ethic like few others. Those that stay in the Major Leagues are so intent on staying there, I am not sure they ever give themselves a chance to sit back and enjoy it.
It was nice to see the crowd going wild, even at the opposing team’s stadium. History made, enjoy the moment. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
