Sad story. The pop rock of the late 90s still an era that I get nostalgic about. Like the 99 Civic, legends never die.
it feels like I have heard of, and personally know people, who are dying of alcoholism/alcohol-induced liver failure more and more often. Like it used to be this super rare thing, and now it's "oh yeah, they drank themselves to death."
It’s how one of my cousins died. He had all sorts of bleeding ulcers and dilated blood vessels in his stomach and esophagus. Told many, many times he needed to stop drinking or he would die. One night, he started vomiting blood and got up to go to the bathroom. Lost consciousness and died on the bathroom floor. Burst blood vessels emptied into his stomach and that was it.
that's how the father's of my wife's childhood friend died. A good friend of mine, who was a multi-time relapsed alcoholic, eventually died with a cocktail of vodka and ambien in his system, leaving behind a 3 year old son and wife (they had recently separated due to said alcoholism). I know more personally but those are the closest deaths. At least two siblings and some other close acquaintances are well on their way.
That would help, most alcoholics look down on junkies/addicts like least I am not them. All because it is legal/socially acceptable.
The second an addict can actually call themself an addict/junkie is usually when they come the crossroad: help yourself, or die. Phil Anselmo is alive because he calls himself a junkie and nothing else. Trent Reznor is alive because he says he is an addict— NOT an alcoholic.
Belated, but I just saw that musician Gary Wright died on September 4th. He was best known for recording the songs "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive."
This is kind of esoteric, but one of my old bosses died. https://guitar.com/news/industry-news/sammy-ash-ceo-sam-ash-music-stores-passed-away/ I was just a sales manager, but he was very accessible and hands-on even from up at the NYC HQ. He was a good guy.
David McCallum has died at 90. I am sure most here know him as Ducky on NCIS, but he will always be Illya Kuryakin to me. Rest in Peace.
That sucks. It always made me chuckle when he was referred to as "the heartthrob from Man From UNCLE". Ducky was a fantastic character.
Fuck, now Brooks Robinson just passed away. I was never an Orioles fan, but he might be the best defensive third baseman ever. I used to love "hating him" as he would steal away base hits from my Beloved Athletics.
