I wouldn't even wait a day. I'd just report his dumbass now. What a fucking prick. Let him reap the consequences. The fact that you caught him and he didn't immediately pay you back means he's a complete idiot as well as an asshole.
Just call them and talk to them and explain the situation. The only downside might be if they ask "how did he get the number". If you voluntarily gave it to him, you might be shit out of luck, or it might make it more difficult for you. If he hasn't flown yet, they may be able to reverse the charges and force him to pay for the ticket when he shows up to depart. That would be pretty funny.
She said he stole it. Credit Cards are pretty serious about that issue. They will want this person arrested.
That would be very funny but the flight was last week. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what they say. I definitely didn't give him the number - the three things you don't mess with of mine are my family, my dog and my money. He's in Wyoming & I vacationed there in December, we stayed with a friend of mine and were all hanging out at her place one night. He had to have gotten it after we were asleep. I questioned the fact that they didn't lock their apartment - ever - and that there was a constant stream of people in and out and now I know why that didn't sit well with me.
I had initially assumed it was a sketchy ex or family member. The fact that it was just some guy makes it even worse. What sort of person even gets the idea to do something like that?
Given his nonchalant response when you called him out, it likely wasn't an isolated event. Report his ass.
Yep. Did it before, he'll do it again. You won't EVER see that money. Maybe filing charges will help the next person.
Oh snap. Husband's team and my team are playing each other in the Sweet 16. I smell a bet. Open to suggestions to give him shit when HIS TEAM BITES THE DUST!
Especially given the fact that he's already blowing off paying you back. Fuck him. Let him sit in jail and think about his life and his poor decision making skills. You gave him a chance to pay you back (Which is one more chance then I would've given him) and he shined it on. Why should you give a shit what happens to him?
So he stole money from you, using your credit card and you didn't call the cops? Why again? How is that any different than a hacker getting your info via some internet black market or using a skimmer?
Threaten to file charges and then leverage that over his head to get shit. Tell him you want him to buy you shoes and groceries and pay your rent until the costs are recouped. Then file the charges anyway because fuck. him.
The misuse of the following two words makes me ill: Pivot and optics. This needs to stop immediately.
I can weigh-in on this credit card issue: While I was in prison, my brother went ape-shit with my credit cards. I didn't even find out about this until I got home, greeted by a stack of collection notices as thick as a phone book, and a couple of calls a day from collection agencies. When I got a call from Capital One, I told them what happened, and they just wrote off the whole bill (a little under 3 grand). They sent me a letter verifying it. I was shocked. Citibank was a little tougher, requiring a police report about the theft (which I sent). I still haven't heard back from them yet; I need to get on their ass about this. Bottom line: You need to call the cops. If you do that, you can get the debt off of your credit rating. I've met plenty of people like that shitheel before, and you're never going to see a dime of that money. Fuck him.
